Marina Juliana de Oliveira Soares
Impossibilia : Revista Internacional de Estudios Literarios , 2012,
Abstract: During the 17th-century, a large number of Europeans traveled to the East. Among them, two groups can be distinguished: English and French. The texts produced from these travels, known astravel literature or récit de voyage, shared, beyond the subject, principles of textual organization. In thissense, I seek to discuss the fundamentals of such narratives, as well as the possible relations between thesenarratives, Fiction and History, and the space of imaginative creation about the seraglio.

Brazilian Journal of Veterinary Research and Animal Science , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-95962004000300010
Abstract: the anatomy of peri-callosum arteries and its branches were studied in cebus apella monkeys. thirty cerebral hemispheres were dissected under magnifying glasses. after having been injected with coloured latex (neoprene 450) and fixed in formaldehyde solution at 10%. the peri-callosun arteries of bath antimeres represent terminal bifurcation branches of the inter-hemispheric artery in four different dispositions. its branches were distributed in the following cerebral regions: a branch in the fronto-polar region; from one to branches in the superior frontal region; from one to four branches in the post-central region. in this sector, the artery contributed to vascularize the pre and post-central regions, where its branches are located obove the inter-hemispheric artery branches. it demonstrates a rich vascularization in this cortical area. the peri-callosum vessels ends up by distributing themselves in the medium parietal region of the encephalon.

Brazilian women in the sports press: a case study
Journal of Human Sport and Exercise , 2011,
Abstract: The media is a powerful tool in creating sports legends. However, international studies have proved that the media tends to favor male athletes and their feats and neglects female sports players. The main purpose of this paper is to determine how many articles one of the most important daily newspapers in Brazil published about male and female athletes. The data was gathered over a number of months at the beginning of this decade. The analysis demonstrated that men usually are mentioned much more frequently than women, that journalists tend to write more about the appearance of female athletes than about their real talents for sport. The findings lead to the conclusion that gender inequality in sport in Brazil is common and that the media, instead of contributing to the decrease in levels of gender inequality, is contributing to this inequality in wider society.
Palavras-chave: Parametro do Sujeito Nulo; sujeito pronominal; português brasileiro; espanhol; italiano. Abstract: This work aims to show the behavior of the pronominal subject in varieties of Spanish and Italian, prototypically null subject languages, in order to evince the distance of the behavior of Brazilian Portuguese regarding the filling of the pronominal subject. Moreover, this work shows that there seems to be a scale of how languages exhibit properties related to Null Subject Parameter, which seems to be related to the number of oppositions that inflectional paradigm of the verb displays in each language. Keywords: Null Subject Parameter; pronominal subject; Brazilian Portuguese; Spanish; Italian.
The Prevalence and Outcomes of Influenza Virus Infection in Heart Failure Patients in Brazil: Influenza Infection in Heart Failure  [PDF]
Henrique Godoy, Juliana Soares, Paula Zanellatto Neves, N.C.J. Bellei, Dirceu R. Almeida
Advances in Infectious Diseases (AID) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/aid.2015.53011
Abstract: Background: Respiratory tract infections were associated with acute exacerbations of heart failure (HF). However, the role of the influenza virus, a major agent of such infections, in this population remained unclear. Method: During the influenza virus seasons of 2013 and 2014 we prospectively assessed influenza respiratory illnesses in a cohort of adults primarily hospitalized for management of acute decompensated HF and a cohort of HF outpatients. Qualitative RT-PCR forinfluenzaA (A/H1, A/H12009pdm, A/H3) and B virus testing was performed on nasopharyngeal swab samples. Result: A total of 121 patients were included, 58.3% males (n= 70), mean age 57.7 years old (±14.0), mean left ejection fraction 35.3 (±9.8). Of these, 50.4% were inpatients (n= 61). The prevalence of symptoms of respiratory infections was 28.0% (n= 34) and 4.9% (n= 6) of all samples were positive for influenza virus. Only influenza A was detected and all cases were among inpatients. Influenza-positive patients had a greater need for antimicrobials (83.3%,n= 5; 16.3%,

Open Journal of Veterinary Medicine (OJVM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ojvm.2012.24030
Abstract: Formation of new blood vessels is paramount for tumour growth and metastatic dissemination and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is one of the key regulators of this process. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of VEGF in 23 splenic hemangiosarcomas and 7 splenic hemangiomas in dogs. Blood tests performed previous to splenectomy were analysed for correlation with tumour VEGF expression. Results showed significantly higher VEGF expression in hemangiosarcomas than hemangiomas and lower hematocrit values and red cell count in dogs affected with malignant neoplasia (P < 0.05). These findings suggest the presence of high VEGF levels may be related to the malignant vascular proliferation seen in hemangiosarcomas.

Although nowadays there are methods for determining the Minimal Bactericidal Concentration and Minimal Fungicidal Concentration, it is indispensable that the establishment of innovative methodologies could be more practical and cheaper. The new methodology Flash microbiocide is an assay in which one aliquot from 96 well plate of Minimal Inhibitory Concentration test is transferred to another plate containing different culture medium. The correspondence with the reference methods described in the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS-CLSI) document M26-A was achieved, denoting the efficiency of this fast and simple method.
