Self-Access Evolution: One University’s Journey Toward Learner Control
Juanita Heigham
Studies in Self-Access Learning Journal , 2011,
Abstract: This article describes the development of a small self-access center at a university in central Japan. The center grew out of pre-existing language lab and evolved into a student-run center facility that has very little daily teacher or staff control. The paper describes the main stages this low-budget center moved through to bring it to its current status and shares some student views on the value of the center.

Gempeler,Juanita;
Revista Colombiana de Psiquiatría , 2010,
Abstract: abstract introduction: in recent years a new approach to the clinical intervention of anorexia nervosa, based on neuropsychological concepts, has been developed: cognitive remediation therapy. based on hypotheses derived from clinical practice, it explores cognitive flexibility in anorexia nervosa within two concepts: central coherence and set-shifting. the idea is to design a more tailored clinical treatment. objective: a review of the available literature was performed, in order to structure a presentation of the developments up to date. method: all the published articles were reviewed; information was obtained from personal communication with dr. kate tchanturia, one of the main authors of cognitive remediation therapy. the review of the articles allowed for the description of the appearance, development, and actual status of this therapy. conclusion: this paper shows the development of this approach and the available evidence from 2005 to date.
Terapia conductual dialéctica
Gempeler,Juanita;
Revista Colombiana de Psiquiatría , 2008,
Abstract: introduction: one of the most interesting developments of the cognitive behavioral therapy in the clinical area is the dialectical behavioral therapy. dr. marsha linehan (m.d. psychiatrist) was looking for answers in the treatment of borderline personality disorders (bpd), and ended up designing a treatment program for this condition. it has an integral approach that uses behavioral and cognitive principles, adding oriental zen elements. it is therefore a cognitive behavioral treatment developed and evaluated in women suffering from bpd and with a history of non-fatal suicide attempts. it is a very useful in the treatment of other pathologies, such as anxiety, depression and impulse control disorder, as well as in the management of behavioral diffi culties such as rage and impulsivity. objective: to present the origin and development of dbt. development: dbt uses techniques focused on behavioral change, with strategies of acceptance o validation of the actual behavior. this last component is the dialectical one implying that validation and acceptance do not excludes change. dbt has four different intervention strategies: nuclear, dialectical, stylistic and case direction. and four intervention modalities: individual therapy, telephone calls, ability group training and case consultation, organized in stages with specifi c treatment goals. empirical evidence for this clinical approach is revised.
Terapia de remediación cognoscitiva para la anorexia nerviosa Cognitive Remediation Therapy in the Treatment of Anorexia Nervosa
Juanita Gempeler
Legal and Administrative Intricacies of the Romanian Healthcare Policies in the Field of the Human Organs Transplants
Juanita GOICOVICI
Acta Universitatis Danubius : Juridica , 2011,
Abstract: Objectives: The article elaborates on the intricacies brought on the Romanian Law by the adoption, on 7 July 2010, of Directive 2010/45/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on standards of quality and safety of human organs intended for transplantation, raising for the Romanian legal system the question of rapidly adapting its regulations and procedures to the newly introduced European standards, as well as the question of harmonizing its essential legislation by transposing Directive 2010/45/EU provisions into national law. Prior Work: Liability of Public Administration for damages caused by unsafe transplant procedures represents one of the major themes, in the recent specialized literature. The problematic of informed consent to organ donations, as well as that of organ traceability represents an interesting, though insufficiently explored and exploited issue, in contemporary Romanian Law. Approach: The author applies, as research method, the analysis of jurisprudence, doctrinal writing and legal provisions in force referring to the problematic of the human organs transplant and donations. The paper also discusses the text of Directive 2010/45/EU on standards of quality and safety of human organs intended for transplantation. Results: The “opting-in – opting out” dichotomy is discussed, as common standard for informed consent in the field of organ donations. The author also formulates de lege ferenda proposals. Implications: The paper interests legal practitioners confronted with the problematic of human organs donations, law students, as well as jurists specialized in Consumer Law and Administrative Law, since the problematic of organ transplantation also reverberates on the protection of the consumers of medical services. Value: The analysis insists on the degree of compliance of national law to the EU’s regulations when removing disparities on donor’s consent procedure or on standards of safety related to the transport of human organs. The paper is also enriched by a presentation of the new European standards on the National Register of living donors and on the National Data bases on serious adverse events.
THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK OF THE CONSUMER ASSOCIATIONS IN THE ROMANIAN CONSUMER LAW
Juanita GOICOVICI
Transylvanian Review of Administrative Sciences , 2009,
Abstract: This study is an analysis of the main legal aspects related to the activity of consumer associations, seen as promoters of collective interests of their members, in the Romanian Consumer Law. As a social partner of the public administration’ organisms, these associations play three kinds of roles: (1) representing the consumers in the organisms of public administration; (2) informing and advising their members in questions related to the purchase of products or the supply of services; (3) taking legal actions in order to obtain the protection of a collective interest of consumers or the cessation of a illegal commercial practice. This article also stresses the importance of non governmental organizations of consumers’ right to be consulted by the Public Administration’ representatives, in the process of elaborating legal norms and procedures related to consumers’ protection. The non governmental organizations of consumers are entitled to be treated as social partners, while representing their members in the specialized organisms, at a national or local level, in which the Public Administration authorities are represented.
