Abstract: introduction: the aims of this paper is to present the spanish version of the social network questionnaire -snq-and its reliability that has been analysed on a sample of people with severe mental illness in andalusia (spain). method: the questionnaire was translated into spanish and its inter-rate and test-retest agreement were assessed in a sample of 30 subjects, residents in different sheltered homes. afterwards, the internal consistency was assessed using the answerers of 225 subjects of similar characteristics. for the statistical analysis intraclass and cronbach coefficients were used. results: inter-rate agreement: intraclass from 0.716 to 1.000; test-retest agreement: intraclass from 0.412 to 1.000; internal consistency: alfa=0.723. conclusion: the spanish version of the snq (cures) is an assessment instrument with reasonable reliability to assess the social network of people with severe mental illness in residential facilities.

Ocular Toxoplasmosis: A Case Report  [PDF]
Sara Ortiz, Raul Martin, Victoria de Juan
International Journal of Clinical Medicine (IJCM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ijcm.2013.41001
Abstract: Report a case of a male patient with a macular scar compatible with ocular toxoplasmosis (OT) in right eye (RE) and review the relevant literature on this disease. A patient, who attended for a routine contact lens follow up, presented with amblyopic exotropia without any ocular disease. Best-corrected visual acuity of the affected eye was 20/40 with constant and mono-fixation exotropia. Ophthalmoscopic assessment revealed a macular scar compatible with OT. OT is the leading cause of infection in the posterior segment. Inactive cases could be asymptomatic and diagnosis requires a complete eye examination, providing a correct diagnosis and patient management.
Clinical Evaluation of Fluido Compact: A New Intravenous Fluid Warmer  [PDF]
Juan M. Zaballos, Lisette De la Cruz
Open Journal of Anesthesiology (OJAnes) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojanes.2017.74010
Abstract: Unintended peri-operative hypothermia is very common in surgical patients and is associated with adverse outcomes. Perioperative use of forced-air and intravenous fluid warmers is recommended for hypothermia prevention. This study evaluated the ease of use of Fluido Compact, a new fluid warming device, and its ability to help as part of the intraoperative patient temperature management. It was used in 36 patients undergoing scheduled surgery at risk of hypothermia under regional, general or combined anesthesia, of more than one hour duration and with a predicted intravenous fluid administration of at least 1000 ml. The fluid warmer is very easy to set up. The disposable cassette has a very low (3 ml) priming volume and it is easy to handle and to place inside the warming module. Once connected to the main power outlet, it is ready to deliver fluid at target temperature in just a few seconds. Control panel is intuitive, and the one button operation system makes it safe and convenient. The combination of peri-operative patient surface warming with Mistral-Air forced-air warming system and intravenous fluid warming with Fluido Compact, that allowed the administration of IV perfusions at body temperature at the rate needed thus avoiding heat loss, helps to maintain intraoperative core temperature between 36.4°C and 36.8°C. A group of patients undergo a variety of surgical procedures with neuraxial, general or combined epidural-general anesthesia.
The Poisson Distribution Is Applied to Improve the Estimation of Individual Cell and Micropopulation Lag Phases  [PDF]

Advances in Microbiology (AiM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/aim.2012.22020
Abstract: Many articles dealing with individual cell lag phase determination assume that growth, when observed, comes from one cell. This assumption is not in agreement with the Poisson distribution, which uses the probability of growth in a sample to predict how many samples contain one, two, or some other number of cells. This article analyses and compares different approaches to improve the accuracy of lag phase estimation of individual cells and micropopulations. It argues that if the highest initial load, as predicted by the Poisson distribution, is assigned to the sample with the shortest lag phase, the second highest to the sample with the second shortest lag phase and so on, the resulting lag phase distributions would be more accurate. This study also proposes the use of a robust test, permutation test, to compare lag phase distributions obtained in different situations.

Abstract: during recent decades, several trends have emerged in the cuban visual arts, e.g., abstraction, photorealism, neoexpressionism and conceptualism, among others, without losing sight of certain themes and characters based on afro-cuban cultures. to the manifestations of a national heritage should be added, as an organic expression, graphic design, which is becoming a school with unique features. today, we have a proliferation of performances and installations, often of interdisciplinary nature, as is the case of video art.
