Corruption of the “American Dream” in Death of a Salesman: A Thematic Analysis of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman
Juan ZHAO
Cross-Cultural Communication , 2010, DOI: 10.3968/981
Abstract: Arthur Miller published his most famous work Death of a Salesman in 1949. This play received numerous awards for its literary merit, including the Pulitzer Prize for drama and it is regarded by many critics as the perfect embodiment of the modern American drama. Willy Loman, the hero of the play, is caught-up in the “American Dream” which consists of a genuine and determined belief that in America all things are possible to all men regardless of birth or wealth. If you work hard enough you will achieve anything. However, Miller believes that people have been ultimately misguided and Miller’s play, Death of a Salesman, is a moving destruction of the whole myth.Key words: Death of a Salesman; American Dream; corruption; tragedy
Female Consciousness in Wuthering Heights
Juan ZHAO
Studies in Literature and Language , 2011, DOI: 10.3968/j.sll.1923156320110302.215
Abstract: Wuthering heights, a representative work in Victorian Era by Emily Bronte, a famous female writer of the 19th century in Britain, has greatly influenced readers for generations. This article investigates the female consciousness in Withering Heights and analyses how Catherine rebels against the male-dominated society and pursues her love. The female consciousness includes the sense of independence and the pursuit of her true self. The spiritual equality is the foundation of happiness between lovers, and although women dace lots of obstacles in their struggle and fight against the society, a wonderful future to women is to be ushered in if they keep fighting. Diiodidobis(1-methylimidazole-κN3)cadmium(II)
Juan Zhao
Acta Crystallographica Section E , 2008, DOI: 10.1107/s1600536808030225
Abstract: In the title compound, [CdI2(C4H6N2)2], each Cd atom is coordinated by two N atoms from two 1-methylimidazole and two iodido ligands. The Cd atom has a distorted tetrahedral coordination. Intermolecular C—H...I hydrogen bonds link the monomeric units, generating a one-dimensional supramolecular chain along the a axis.
catena-Poly[[bis(1-ethylimidazole-κN3)cobalt(II)]-μ-isophthalato-κ2O1:O3]
Juan Zhao
Acta Crystallographica Section E , 2008, DOI: 10.1107/s1600536808030778
Abstract: In the title compound, [Co(C8H4O4)(C5H8N2)2]n, each cobalt(II) ion is coordinated by two N and two O atoms in a distorted tetrahedral geometry. The isophthalate ligands bridge the metal ions to form polymeric zigzag chains extending along the b axis. Weak C—H...O interactions contribute to the crystal packing stability.
Tetrakis(μ-2-chlorobenzoato-κ2O:O′)bis[(4-vinylpyridine-κN)copper(II)]
Juan Zhao
Acta Crystallographica Section E , 2008, DOI: 10.1107/s1600536808030766
Abstract: The title compound, [Cu2(C7H4ClO2)4(C7H7N)2], consists of centrosymmetric dinuclear molecules with a Cu...Cu separation of 2.6676 (12) . In the molecule, four 2-chlorobenzoate anions bridge two CuII ions, while two neutral 4-vinylpyridine ligands coordinate them in axial positions. The CuII ion has a distorted square-planar pyramidal coordination, with four O atoms from the chlorobenzoate anions at the base. The N pyridine atom completes the coordination environment in the apical position.
catena-Poly[[bis(1-methylimidazole-κN3)zinc(II)]-μ-isophthalato-κ2O1:O3]
Juan Zhao
Acta Crystallographica Section E , 2008, DOI: 10.1107/s160053680803078x
Abstract: In the solid state, the title compound, [Zn(C8H4O4)(C4H6N2)2]n, exhibits the existence of polymeric zigzag chains extending along the a axis. Each ZnII ion is coordinated by two N atoms [Zn—N = 1.996 (6) and 2.032 (5) ] and two O atoms [Zn—O = 1.930 (4) and 1.976 (4) ] in a distorted tetrahedral geometry. Weak C—H...O interactions contribute to the crystal packing stability.
Bis(2-chlorobenzoato-κO)bis(1-vinylimidazole-κN3)copper(II)
Juan Zhao
Acta Crystallographica Section E , 2008, DOI: 10.1107/s1600536808030237
Abstract: In the title compound, [Cu(C7H4ClO2)2(C5H6N2)2], each CuII ion, located on an inversion center, has a slightly distorted square-planar coordination geometry formed by two 1-vinylimidazole molecules [Cu—N = 1.954 (6) ] and two 2-chlorobenzoate anions [Cu—O = 1.958 (6) ]. Weak intermolecular C—H...O hydrogen bonds contribute to the crystal packing stability.
A Comparison of Tennessee Williams and Anton Chekhov
Juan ZHAO
Studies in Literature and Language , 2010,
Abstract: This essay sets out to make a comparison analysis between the American playwright Tennessee Williams and Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. Both playwrights are outstanding figures in the world literature, via case study of The Glass Menageric and The Cherry Orchard, we got a conclusion that Tennessee Williams was much indebted to Anton Chekhov who exerted great influence on the former. Key words: Tennessee Williams; Anton Chekhov; world literature
Research on the Financing of Small and Medium Enterprises
Juan Zhao
International Journal of Business and Management , 2009, DOI: 10.5539/ijbm.v3n11p171
Abstract: Small and medium enterprises' financing constraints are an important reason for its development in recent years, national policy and legal aspects are also efforts to promote the development of SMEs, the SME financing is still a lot of the biggest obstacles to entrepreneurs. Strong solutions of a class of SDEs with jumps
Juan Zhao
Mathematics , 2008,
Abstract: We study a class of stochastic integral equations with jumps under non-Lipschitz conditions. We use the method of Euler approximations to obtain the existence of the solution and give some sufficient conditions for the strong uniqueness.
