Gota en el anciano
Restrepo,Juan Pablo; Pascual,Eliseo;
Revista Colombiana de Reumatología , 2008,
Abstract: gout is the most common chronic arthritis in older people that can lead to significant and severe disability. it can be easy diagnosed with the presence of crystals of urate monosodic in the articular fluid. the clinical stages of gout include asymptomatic hyperuricemia, intermittent gouty arthritis, intercritical period and chronic tophaceous gout. there are some differences necessary to recognize to avoid errors in the management. treatment of acute gout involves the use of nsaids, colchicine, corticosteroids or corticotropin (adrenocorticotropic hormone). profilactic treatment includes the use of allopurinol and uricosuric agents; but all of these drugs could cause serious reactions in the elderly.

Restrepo,Juan Pablo; Molina,María del Pilar;
Acta Medica Colombiana , 2010,
Abstract: tumoral calcinosis or teutschlander syndrome is a rare and benign condition characterized by the presence of calcified masses around the hip, elbow, and less frequently feet, ankles and knees. it is believed that there is a genetic alteration in galnt3 and fgf23 which regulate the renal absorption of phosphate. usually it is an asymptomatic lesion and occasionally it produces symptoms of compression to peripheral tissues. imaging permits the diagnosis. there is no successful medical treatment and surgical excision is recommended although recurrences are frequent (acta med colomb 2010; 35: 185-186).
Sinovitis villonodular pigmentaria.
Restrepo,Juan Pablo; Molina,María del Pilar;
Revista Colombiana de Reumatología , 2010,
Abstract: pigmented villonodular synovitis is a benign neoplasm with synovial proliferation and hemosiderin deposition. it occurs usually between 3th and 4th decades of life. typically, it is monoarticular and can affect any joint but most commonly involves the large joints of the lower extremity. treatment is based on the eradication of the tumor by surgery or radiotherapy.
Restrepo,Juan Pablo; Molina,María del Pilar;
Revista Colombiana de Reumatología , 2011,
Abstract: stress fractures may occur in patients with normal bone or metabolically weak. they usually present associated with sports or those who have recently changed the duration and intensity of exercise. the clinical symptoms are often mistaken with other musculoskeletal conditions, thus imaging plays a crucial role in the diagnosis of this condition. we describe the case of a woman of 21 years old, non-athlete who after a minimal effort presented a right knee monoarthritis hemorrhagic type, the mri findings confirmed a stress fracture of the tibial plateau.
Vasculopatía livedoide debida a síndrome antifosfolípido
Restrepo,Juan Pablo; Molina,María del Pilar;
Revista Colombiana de Reumatología , 2011,
Abstract: livedoid vasculopathy is a rare, chronic disease that affects predominantly the lower limbs. the etiology of the disease is unknown, but histopathology shows thrombosis in the dermis without inflammatory changes in the vessel wall. it is manifested by petechial lesions and ulcerations that heal with scarring hyperpigmentation alternating with white areas. multiple treatments have been used so far, without total success.
Gutiérrez,Marwin; Restrepo,Juan Pablo; Filippucci,Emilio; Grassi,Walter;
Revista Colombiana de Reumatología , 2009,
Abstract: over the last few years, continuous advances have been made in the field of ultrasonography, developing equipments providing high-quality greyscale imaging with an axial resolution power less than 0.1 mm and very sensitive power doppler technique. this fact has opened the way to detailed imaging of the superficial tissues, including the skin. this pictorial essay shows the main sonographic findings obtainable with "last generation" high-frequency transducers and power doppler technique in patients with psoriatic disease. sonographic images shown were selected from an image database collected in 20 patients with definite diagnosis of psoriasis and in 10 healthy subjects. the present report provides pictorial evidence that high resolution greyscale ultrasound and power doppler technique allow for a detailed morphostructural assessment and a sensitive blood flow evaluation at both skin and nail level in patients with psoriatic disease.
Encondroma solitario de fémur
Restrepo,Juan Pablo; Molina,María del Pilar;
Revista Colombiana de Reumatología , 2009,
Abstract: solitary enchondroma is a benign cartilaginous tumor, usually asymptomatic, presents between the 3 and 4 decade. we report a 60 years old woman with solitary enchondroma in left femur, confirming the diagnosis with magnetic resonance imaging.
Osteomas múltiples faciales asociados a síndrome de Gardner Facial multiple osteomas associated with Gardner syndrome
The facial osteomas are one of the extracolonic manifestations of Gardner syndrome that may precede the appearance of intestinal polyps. The most common location is in the mandibular region but may affect other bones of the face. Despite being benign lesions can grow in an exaggerated manner and require surgical treatment. We describe a woman of 16 who presented a multiple osteomas of the face.

Pigmented villonodular synovitis is a benign neoplasm with synovial proliferation and hemosiderin deposition. It occurs usually between 3th and 4th decades of life. Typically, it is monoarticular and can affect any joint but most commonly involves the large joints of the lower extremity.
