Research on Lubrication Model of Rock Bit Bearings with Non-Newtonian Medium  [PDF]

Abstract: Lubrication media of rock bit journal bearing is non-Newtonian fluid, and because of structure limitations, lubricant supply is only from the inside track and its rheological properties are relatively complex. In general studies, the non- Newtonianism of lubrication media of rock bit journal bearing is neglected to simplify the research process. Based on the universal Reynolds equation of non-Newton media, the mathematical model of lubrication analysis was suitable for the rock bit bearing working conditions was established. Then according to the experimental results of rheological properties of RB-type lubricating grease, the equivalent viscosity of the model was established and this model can be solved by the method used in solving the Reynolds equation of Newton fluid.
Tensions Experienced by Rural Teachers in Adopting Tablet Teaching in Taiwan  [PDF]

Abstract: This study explored teachers’ tension to the integration of tablet teaching in rural schools in Taiwan. Rural teachers adopting mobile teaching were invited to respond to survey questionnaire items designed for the study. Teachers’ technology knowledge (TK) and their tensions to integrating mobile teaching were assessed. Factor analyses were employed to elicit five constructs from the tension factors. Among these constructs, the teachers were most concerned about “policy and support”. In a comparison of teachers’ adoption of different tools (tablets vs. portable computers), teachers adopting tablets for mobile teaching had a higher level of technology knowledge (TK) than those using portable computers (p < 0.01), and a higher tension level for “policy and support” (p < 0.01) and “pedagogy concerns” (p < 0.05).
Notch 1 and NF-κB Expression and Clinical Correlation in Chinese Patients with Lymphoblastic Lymphoma  [PDF]

T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (T-ALL/T-LBL) is commonly associated with Notch 1 mutations. There is limited data on the relationship between Notch l and NF-κB expression and clinical features in LBL. We evaluated the expression of Notch l and NF-κB in LBL using immunohistochemistry and analyzed their relationship with clinical characteristics, treatment results, and survival. From October 2000 to August 2008, 34 untreated patients with LBL were enrolled in the study. Median age was 11.8 years (range, 1 - 25 years). Twenty-five patients were diagnosed with T-LBL and 9 patients with B-LBL. Most patients received chemotherapy consisting of modified ALL-BFM- 90. Notch l showed high expression in 68% of T-LBL and low expression in 100% of B-LBL (p = 0.015). High expression of Notch l positively correlated with presence of a mediastinal mass but not with 5-year event free survival (EFS) in T-LBL. NF-κB showed high expression in 65% of all patients with LBL, with no difference between T- and B-LBL. NF-κB expression was higher in T-LBL patients with bulky disease and B symptom; it did not correlate with 5-year EFS in T-LBL. Expression of Notch 1 and NF-κB strongly correlated (p = 0.014) in T-LBL. Notch 1 is highly ex- pressed in T-LBL. NF-κB is highly expressed in all patients with LBL with no difference between T-LBL and B-LBL. Notch 1 expression was significantly associated with NF-κB expression in T-LBL. Notch l and NF-κB may play an important role in the development of T-LBL; further investigation is warranted.

Construction of Curriculum System and Compilation of Subject Matter for General Education on Biotechnology

Abstract: General education, an educational idea relative to professional education, has entered into curriculum research stage in educational practices of Chinese universities. The purpose in this article is to construct a curriculum system for general education on Biotechnology. Firstly, the course background and significance related to Biotechnology in the general education are discussed by the integration of the practice on construction of the curriculum and subject matter in Biotechnology and Human in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Subsequently, the ideas and techniques of construction of subject matters are discussed on the aspect of the course characters, subject matter content knowledge, method and organization, etc. Through the teaching practice for years, an educational website named as “Bitechnology and Its Application” has been set up, and relevant teaching materials have been published. This research will contribute to the exploration on other curricula construction on general education.
OPRT Is a Potential Predictive Factor for the Response to S-1 in Gastric Cancer  [PDF]

Objective: To analyze the impact of mRNA expression of oral fluoropyrimidine (S-1) metabolism (thymidylate synthase, dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase, thymidine phosphorylase, and orotate phosphoribosyltransferase [OPRT]), on treatment outcomes in locally advanced gastric cancer patients receiving preoperative S-1 combined with oxaliplatin chemotherapy. Methods: Preoperative stage III gastric cancer patients received S-1 (80 mg/m2/day; days 1-14) and oxaliplatin (130 mg/m2; day 1) every 3 weeks and subsequently received gastrectomy with D1/D2 lymphadenectomy. Paired tumor and normal fresh frozen tissues were collected to evaluate mRNA levels of thymidylate synthase, thymidine phosphorylase, dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase, and orotate phosphoribosyltransferase using quantitative reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Results: Between December 2009 and October 2010, thirty-five patients were enrolled in this study. 24 (68.5%) patients had clinical tumor response and 10 (28.6%) patients achieved histological response. Quantitative reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction results showed that orotate phosphoribo-syltransferase (OPRT) mRNA expression was significantly higher in histological responders than non-responders (3.75 vs. 1.81, P = 0.005). Diffuse-type gastric cancer patients demonstrated higher orotate phosphoribosyltransferase (OPRT) expression levels than intestinal-type ones (2.79 vs. 1.60, P = 0.014). Similar results were not found when comparing thymidylate synthase, thymidine phosphorylase and dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase expression levels. Conclusion: Orotate phosphoribosyltransferase (OPRT) expression level may be a potential predictive biomarker in advanced gastric cancer patients treated with oral fluoropyrimidine (S-1) based chemotherapy. Research on the Influencing Effect between CHVA and CPI in China Based on VAR Models  [PDF]

The cointegration test, granger causality test, VAR model, impulse response function and other econometric methods are used in this paper to analyze the influencing effect between commercial housing vacancy rate and CPI and its delay impact. The results show that there is a long-term equilibrium relationship between commercial housing vacancy rate and CPI in China. There are at least one cointegration relationship between CHVR and CPI. The past values of the CPI appear to contain information which is useful for forecasting changes in the CHVR. CPI has a significant effect on CHVR and CPI rising drives CHVR.

Unusual Dielectric Loss Properties of Carbon Nanotube—Polyvinylidene Fluoride Composites in Low Frequency Region (100 Hz < f < 1 MHz)  [PDF]

Systematic investigations on the dielectric properties of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs)-polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composites with a wide MWNT concentration range (2 - 9 wt%) have been carried out. It is revealed that the dielectric constant is increased by the addition of an appropriate amount of MWNTs at room temperature. However, when the concentration of MWNTs in the composites reaches above 5 wt%, negative dielectric constants and large dielectric loss in the composites are observed in the low frequency range. The ferroelectric CNT-PVDF polymer composites containing more than 5 wt% MWNTs have a strong dielectric absorption, which has the potential for acoustic applications.

Abstract: This paper proposed a new algorithm to separate leukocytes from cytological image by setting parameters of lightness transformation based on the RGB color space, which can make the targets’ color in different areas. In our procedure, an operator is employed in using color features. According to their histogram distribution of hue component in HSL color space after enhancing the contrast of image in RGB color space, the threshold of segmentation between leukocyte and erythrocyte could be achieved well. Especially, this algorithm is more efficient than monochrome for leukocyte segmentation, and the results of experiments show that it provides a good tool for cytological image, which can increase accuracy of segmentation of leukocyte.

Abstract: 本研究探討專題式學習融入五年級自然與生活科技領域之教學。研究以小規模的科學營專題學習作為深入觀察之起點,繼而擴及較大規模的七個班級的自然課專題學習。學生除了經歷科學專題探索之外,並將探索成果以專題網頁呈現。藉由選定的專題,學生以4-5人為一組,除了學習相關科學性知識外,更透過Internet資源的探索,搜尋相關資訊,並經由分享、討論,以助知識之整合。另方面也經由網路多媒體工具作為自然知識專題發表的途徑。研究過程中結合計質性與計量性方法。計質性資料,包括觀察紀錄、錄影帶資料、錄音訪談資料,以及教師日誌。計量性資料方面,共蒐集229名學生自評反應、同儕評分,與教師評量作為資料分析的來源。研究結果歸納:學生在各個階段的任務(包括取得基本知識與技巧、定義探索任務、探索與蒐集、組織與整合內容、透過網頁呈現)反映不同的情意、行動,與認知之學習表現。學生對於專題式學習持肯定態度。透過專題學習,學生能夠很清楚所要探討的問題並能由完成專題而獲得成就感。而學生自評、同儕自評、教師評分三者反映顯著相關性(p < 0.01)。 In this study, projected-based learning was applied to the field of Nature Science Technology teaching among 5th graders. The project-based learning approach first started with a small-scale implementation among 25-30 SciCamp members, and was then expanded to a large-scale implementation among seven fifth-grader classes. To accomplish a project, students worked as a group of 4-5 persons in a team. They were encouraged to learn basic scientific knowledge, and used the Internet as a research tool that allowed information to be gathered, shared and consulted to facilitate synthesis of knowledge. They also used webpage design tools to present their project results. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used. Qualitative data included observation notes, videotapes, audiotapes, and teachers’ journals. Quantitative data gathered from 229 students included students’ self-assessment, peers assessment, and teacher assessment. From their project-based learning, students actually conducted a research through guided research processes and interpreted their understanding of knowledge through the presentation of webpage design tools. Students’ learning from the processes of gaining knowledge and skills, identifying research tasks, obtaining data & information, organizing and interpreting content, and presentation through a webpage editor. Their task-involvement in action, affective, and achievement aspects were analyzed. Students were positively about project-based learning approach, and enjoyed the achievement of accomplishing a project work through experiencing. Quantitative data reveal that students’ self-evaluation, peer assessment, and teacher assessment were significantly related (p < 0.01).
Prevalence of Hematuria among Emergency Department Healthcare Workers  [PDF]

Abstract: Background: In Taiwan, emergency departments are so busy that it is not uncommon for staffs (doctors and nurses) to be deprived of their lunch breaks or breaks to go to the restroom. As a consequence, during their busy shifts some emergency department healthcare workers choose to limit their water intake and no time to micturate which are both risk factors of urinary tract infection or urolithiasis. Hematuria is a common laboratory finding due to urinary tract infection and urolithiasis. Objective: To assess the prevalence of hematuria among the emergency department healthcare workers, we conducted a retrospective study in a district hospital in Taiwan. Documented data included those of healthcare workers who worked in the emergency department, as well as other departments of the same hospital. Methods: We reviewed the three-year records of general body checkup of hospital staffs who served in the emergency room and other departments of the same hospital between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2011. Statistical software SPSS statistical analysis of survey data recovery is applied; data and test results by the questionnaire analysis patterns are associated with the urinary system abnormalities to ANOVA analysis to explore the hospital group whether there is a significant sex differences, and the other to analyze and verify the correlation analysis to the Scheffe post-hoc comparison method. Results: A higher prevalence of hematuria was observed among emergency department healthcare workers when compared with their colleagues who work in other departments of the same hospital. Female workers have higher risk of urinary system abnormalities than male workers. Nurses in the urinary system abnormalities are higher than other positions category. Shift work system has a negative effect on the urinary system. Conclusion: In conclusion, hematuria is more prevalent among emergency department healthcare workers than healthcare workers working in the inpatient wards. Hematuria might well be due to urinary tract infection which in turns caused by the overwhelmingly busy nature of the emergency department duty that deprived the emergency department healthcare workers from frequent voiding and sufficient intake of fluid.
