Ruiz Flores,Juan Carlos;
Revista INVI , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-83582012000100008
Abstract: the increase in violence in latin america coincides with the restoration of democracy in most of the countries of the region and deep neoliberal measures leading to social changes and inequality. in addition, serious marginality gives communities different ranks within cities and creates critical and stigmatized zones. this paper analyzes the violence that has taken place in the periurban area of santiago, especially in josé maría caro. additionally, this research offers a deeper insight into the historical development of the spatial conditions related to violence (stigma, segregation, urban services) and the perception of residents about the police. while josé maría caro have a consolidated urban situation, the stigma of being a violent and dangerous place locate this neighborhood in the symbolic periurban area of the city. this paper analyzes institutional, political, economic, social and structural types of violence. finally, it is possible to identify heterogeneity of cultural patterns that configurate the current situation of this neighborhood.

Ruiz Guadalajara, Juan Carlos
Revista de Indias , 2010,
Abstract: This article attempts to examine critically the image that contemporary historiography has built around the figure of Captain Miguel Caldera. In contrast, it shows aspects that bring us closer to his Hispanic identity, to his role as a member of the militia in the service of Philip II of Spain and to the part he played as an instrument of domination and in the disappearance of the nomads of the Chichimecan frontier. It also contributes to the discussion of frontier cultural development in the context of the Hispanic monarchy’s expansion in the 16th century.
Ruiz Souza, Juan Carlos
Al-Qantara : Revista de Estudios Arabes , 2001,
Abstract: This article shows a new interpretation of the function of the famous Court of Lions in the Alhambra of Granada, built in the 1360's by Mu ammad V. The study of the contemporary architecture in the Maghreb (Fez, Sale, Tlemcen, etc.), the close relations between Mu ammad V of Granada and the neighbouring Islamic countries, his own knowledge of the architecture produced under the Marinid dynasty during his Moroccan exile in Fez from 1359 to 1362, etc., makes us reconsider the Palace of the Lions as a royal madrasa-zāwiya, where its founder could even have been buried in 1391. Moreover, this hypothesis would clearly explain the numerous anomalies the Palace of Lions presents.
Juan Carlos Ruiz Flores
Revista INVI , 2012,
Juan Carlos Ruiz Molleda
Derecho PUCP , 2009,
Gymnodinium Brown Tide in the Magellanic Fjords, Southern Chile
Uribe,Juan Carlos; Ruiz,Milena;
Revista de biología marina y oceanografía , 2001, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-19572001000200004
Abstract: in april 1999, a brown tide was recorded in the magellanic fjords, southern chile. the causative taxa were two unidentified morphs of gymnodinium that resemble gymnodinium mikimotoi miyake et kominami ex oda. although there were many reports from fishermen about water discolorations along the region, just two localities were sampled by scientific personnel: the oceanic entrance of canal abra (53°22' s - 73° 25' w) and punta carrera (53° 35' s- 70° 55' w), which is situated in the strait of magellan. after discolorations, gymnodinium concentrations ranged between 3,000 to 43,000 cells l-1. the gymnodinium bloom lasted for about three weeks in the fjords. invertebrates (sea urchins, sea stars, snails, limpets, octopus) and fish were reported as dead, but no quantification was done. this phenomenon took place some weeks after a bloom of gymnodinium, recorded around chiloé island (42° 30 s - 73° 55' w). neither species form part of the normal flora in the southern chilean fjords and their blooming supports the idea of a large scale phytoplankton transport along south east pacific coast.
Echandía,Carlos Armando; Ruiz,Juan Gabriel;
Colombia Médica , 2006,
Abstract: objective: to assess the putative association between 5 minutes apgar score, neonatal seizures and neurodevelopmental delay (infanib test) performed at 1 year of corrected age. design: historic cohort. setting: a first level hospital in cali, colombia (1989 to 1997); subjects came from a low socioeconomic stratum population. study subjects: a total of 287 infants who completed the 1 year follow up program were included. interventions: not applicable main outcome measures: incidence (cumulative and density) of neuromotor abnormalities (abnormal infanib test) at 1 year of age. results: compliance with program visits was 80%. thirty nine (13.6%) infants presented low 5 minutes apgar score. thirty six (12.5%) infants presented neonatal seizures, associated mainly with neonatal asphyxia and hypoglicemia. forty seven infants had an abnormal infanib test (cumulative incidence 16.4% and incidence density 1.3 new cases per 100 infants-year). a significant association between neonatal seizures and an abnormal infanib was found (rr crude 2.39 ic 95% 1.37-4.16). low 5 minutes apgar score is not an effect modifier neither a confounder of the association between neonatal seizures and an abnormal infanib. exploring the presence or absence of effect modification only bacterial meningitis, demonstrated a role as confounder for the association between seizures and infanib results. conclusions: both neonatal seizures and bacterial meningitis were independently associated with abnormal infanib results. neonatal seizures are not only an important risk factor (adjusted rr = 2.51 ic 95% 1.10-5.72), but an easily identifiable one that can help the physician taking the medical history to identify patients at high risk for neuromotor abnormalities during the first year of life.

Latin-American Journal of Physics Education , 2011,
Abstract: The present article shows a didactic approach to the classroom activities oriented to the student formation; we developed an integral study focused in the total understanding, taking into account the possibilities of the subject of physics, coupled with the potential of its didactics. The main basis is that in the same teaching activity the physical phenomenon can be: observed, modeled, interpreted, described, argued and verified all together. This involved building a Geometric Optics device coupled with Optics software. The classroom was equipped with computers to achieve the study of the physical phenomenon as described above.
Relationships between neurocognition, emotional processing and social functioning in schizophrenia
Paola Jaramillo,Juan Carlos Ruiz,Inma Fuentes
Psychology, Society & Education , 2011,
Abstract: A series of cognitive deficits in schizophrenia have led to a focus on neuro- and social cognition in current research and professional practice. These deficits have significant implications for social functioning. The aim of the current study is to analyse the relationships between neurocognition, social cognition (evaluated via emotional recognition tasks) and social functioning. Sixty people diagnosed with schizophrenia made up the sample and the following areas were evaluated: executive functioning and cognitive flexibility, attention and vigilance, processing speed, emotion identification and discrimination and community functioning. Results indicate that measures of basic cognition correlate significantly with communal functioning while measures of emotion recognition, especially those identifying facial emotions only correlate positively with one area of communal functioning, namely that of communication and social contact.
