Abstract: In this paper we are describing a green cycle process. The first step was a novel hydrotalcite-like compound (HTLC) synthesized by a co-precipitating method, under standard ambient temperature and pressure, using chemical industry wastewater rich in divalent and trivalent cations, activated by a thermal treatment and finally characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDS) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The second step was a series of batch sorption tests performed with this activated HTLC and untreated underground sulfurous water from the state of Puebla, México. The HTLC calcined at 500°C/3 h exhibited the best sorption ability for ions, demonstrated a decrease of the hardness and sulfate ions to below the regional legal standards for drinking water. Once inactive after being used in water treatment, the sorbed ions were removed by ion exchange in a carbonate-containing solution, resulting in an 80% recycling of the material which upon activation demonstrated a retained capacity for water treatment. This recyclability suggests the exciting possibility of this novel compound as an efficient “green” technology in water treatment processes.

SummaryThe erythrosedimentation is essential for a good hematologic study. The erythrosedimentation is not specific but important because it canbe accelerated meanwhile other hematologic and/or biochemicalparameters are not altered. The purpose of this work was to determine the precision of theerythrosedimentation and its behavior in front of other hematologicand/or biochemical parameters in samples of buffaloes and Caroracattle localized in the state of Mérida-Venezuela. Theerythrosedimentation was manually performed by using the methodsand procedures suggested for human beings (Wintrobe andWestergreen). The hemoglobin, the hematocrit and the number of leucocytes weredetermined by the use of the IDEXX Vetautoread HematologyAnalyzer. The fibrinogen concentration was determined by the use of aBio-Bas coagulometer. The concentration of triglycerides andcholesterol was obtained in a Spectronic Genesys 20. Abstract: We present a waist-worn personal navigation system based on inertial measurement units. The device makes use of the human bipedal pattern to reduce position errors. We describe improved algorithms, based on detailed description of the heel strike biomechanics and its translation to accelerations of the body waist to estimate the periods of zero velocity, the step length, and the heading estimation. The experimental results show that we are able to support pedestrian navigation with the high-resolution positioning required for most applications.

Sociedad y Economía , 2010,
Abstract: this work analyzes the wage gap at different points in the conditional distribution of income according to ethnic or racial status using data from the national household survey of december 2000. the methodology involves the estimation of mincer-type equations, including correction of the endogeneity bias present in these equations and uses the methodology of disaggregation according to melly (2005). the findings show a predominant effect of the "unexplained" proportion of the wage gap between colombians of african descent and the rest of the population which could be the result of racial discrimination.
