Cognition, social cognition and social functioning in schizophrenia
Paola Jaramillo,Inmaculada Fuentes,Juan C. Ruiz
Psychology, Society & Education , 2009,
Abstract: The discoveries continually being made in the study of schizophrenia have shown the complexity of this serious mental disorder. Research has enabled intervention to be redirected to focus on areas of maximum impact and efficacy. Currently, studies concur that the majority of people with schizophrenia exhibit deficits in non-social cognitive functioning, in performance in social cognition tasks and clearly in social functioning. This article aims to give a concise overview of developments made in these three areas and the importance of the subsequent relations between them.

Abstract: The aim of this work is to assess the scope of the clinical research performed by Cuban scientific institutions. A retrospective search about clinical trials published by journals indexed in MEDLINE and Science Citation Index was carried out, and 172 references to works published with the participation of Cuban research centers were retrieved. A group of 653 Cuban and 175 foreign authors were identified. The average of authors by article was 7,16, and the most common author groups were made up of more than six specialists. A total of 82 clinical trials were the result of collaborations between scientific institutions; 83 research centers took part in the trials, 36 of them from others countries. The reports about the 172 clinical trials were published in 96 journals from 17 countries, and the 74,4 % of the articles were written in English. Sixty-three therapeutic roducts, technics and procedures were tested in different types of patients, and 41 disorders were treated. Human adults, with a relative balance between women and men, were the subjects most frequently studied. The bibliometric study made possible to confirm the cuban advances as regards to the clinical trials execution for the authentication of products reached by the medical pharmaceutical industry, as well as to define the research centers in the vanguard regarding this subject.

O objetivo é "interpretar as experiências e v
Deployment in dynamic environments

Computer Science , 2004,
Abstract: Information and communication technologies are moving towards a new stage where applications will be dynamically deployed, uninstalled, updated and (re)configured. Several approaches have been followed with the goal of creating a fully automated and context-aware deployment system. Ideally, this system should be capable of handling the dynamics of this new situation, without losing sight of other factors, such as performance, security, availability or scalability. We will take some of the technologies that follow the principles of Service Oriented Architectures, SOA, as a paradigm of dynamic environments. SOA promote the breaking down of applications into sets of loosely coupled elements, called services. Services can be dynamically bound, deployed, reconfigured, uninstalled and updated. First of all, we will try to offer a broad view on the specific deployment issues that arise in these environments. Later on, we will present our approach to the problem. One of the essential points that has to be tackled to develop an automated deployment engine will be to have enough information to carry out tasks without human intervention. In the article we will focus on the format and contents of deployment descriptors. Additionally, we will go into the details of the deployment framework for OSGi enabled gateways that has been developed by our research group. Finally we will give some concluding remarks and some ideas for future work

Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2014.611090
Abstract:

The study aimed to evaluate the effect of operating parameters of the sprinkler Super 10, manufactured by NaanDanJain, with green, yellow and blue nozzles on the hydraulic characterization, so that this information can contribute to a better dimensioning of systems and management of irrigated areas. For the determination of UC and UD the radial method was used and with the aid of computer application CATCH 3D the overlapping of water slides with ten spacings was calculated. The results demonstrate that the mechanism used for the fractionation of the water jet of sprinkler Super 10 is efficient because it presented good uniformity of water distribution and low amplitude of precipitation. For high uniformity of distribution of water in the larger wetting radii, it is recommended to work with Super 10 sprinkler using the green nozzle, with a pressure of 40 mH2O and spacing between sprinklers and lateral lines 12 × 12 m.

Modified Intracellular-Associated Phenotypes in a Recombinant Salmonella Typhi Expressing S. Typhimurium SPI-3 Sequences

PLOS ONE , 2012, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0009394
Abstract: A bioinformatics comparison of Salmonella Pathogenicity Island 3 sequences from S. Typhi and S. Typhimurium serovars showed that ten genes are highly conserved. However three of them are pseudogenes in S. Typhi. Our aim was to understand what functions are lost in S. Typhi due to pseudogenes by constructing a S. Typhi genetic hybrid carrying the SPI-3 region of S. Typhimurium instead of its own SPI-3. We observed that under stressful conditions the hybrid strain showed a clear impairment in resistance to hydrogen peroxide and decreased survival within U937 culture monocytes. We hypothesized that the marT-fidL operon, encoded in SPI-3, was responsible for the new phenotypes because marT is a pseudogen in S. Typhi and has a demonstrated role as a transcriptional regulator in S. Typhimurium. Therefore we cloned and transferred the S. Typhimurium marT-fidL operon into S. Typhi and confirmed that invasion of monocytes was dramatically decreased. Finally, our findings suggest that the genomic and functional differences between SPI-3 sequences have implications in the host specificity of Typhi and Typhimurium serovars.
Determination of Total Acid in Palygorskite Chemically Modified by N-Butylamine Thermodesorption
Ruiz, Juan A.C.;Melo, Dulce M.A.;Souza, José R.;Alcazar, Leopoldo O.;
Materials Research , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14392002000200014
Abstract: the acid properties of palygorskite clay (r1) were studied using n-butylamine as probe molecule. a comparison was made of these properties in palygorskite clay (r1), in an acidified palygorskite (r2) and in acid palygorskite loaded with 2% of lanthanum (r3). the total acid properties were determined by ftir (fourier transform infrared) and tg-dta (thermogravimetry). the acidity increased as follows: r3>r2>r1. the acid strength sites were classified as physisorbed, weak, medium and strong. the acid treatment did not change the site distribution, apparently only removing channel impurities. the introduction of lanthanum created many more acid sites and increased the specific area. both weak and strong sites, which increased significantly, were considered new active acid sites produced by the lanthanum.
