Trabajos de Prehistoria , 1995,
Abstract: The spring of 1995 marked (he discovery of (he Cave of the Moro with a grout of horse engravings of undoubted Upper Palaeolithic date. The numerous other finds that have been made in recent years in the zone of the Campo de Gibraltar suggest that it is an area of great importance. Both the rock art and the material culture evidence, in the open air or in rock shelters, has continually increasing potential for study. Furthermore this group of sites represents the most southern Palaeolithic rock art in Europe.
Relation between Temperature and Mortality in Thirteen Spanish Cities
Carmen I?iguez,Ferran Ballester,Juan Ferrandiz,Santiago Pérez-Hoyos,Marc Sáez,Antonio López
International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health , 2010, DOI: 10.3390/ijerph7083196
Abstract: In this study we examined the shape of the association between temperature and mortality in 13 Spanish cities representing a wide range of climatic and socio-demographic conditions. The temperature value linked with minimum mortality (MMT) and the slopes before and after the turning point (MMT) were calculated. Most cities showed a V-shaped temperature-mortality relationship. MMTs were generally higher in cities with warmer climates. Cold and heat effects also depended on climate: effects were greater in hotter cities but lesser in cities with higher variability. The effect of heat was greater than the effect of cold. The effect of cold and MMT was, in general, greater for cardio-respiratory mortality than for total mortality, while the effect of heat was, in general, greater among the elderly.

Archivos Espa?oles de Urología (Ed. impresa) , 2007, DOI: 10.4321/S0004-06142007000300015
Abstract: objective: chronic hematoceles are rare scrotal masses. most of them include trauma, torsion, tumor, and surgery as possible causes. we describe the case of an old diabetic patient, who is attended for presenting a marked increase in size of the right hemiescrotum and pain. methods: we described computed tomography and sonographic findings. results/conclusions: frequently, a varicocele is an associated finding. presumibly, minor trauma results in rupture of dilated vessels. in sonographic exploration, they have a more complex heterogeneous appearance with echogenic debris and septations. most hematoceles spontaneously resolve with conservative therapy.

Abstract: small-scale family swine production can be seen in thousands of small communities and suburban zones; it is characterized by breeding rural pigs in rustic facilities with basic feed and productive parameters, well below those of technologically advanced farms, with mortality reaching up to 50% of the litter. this type of production involves a large number of producers and has a critical impact on family income. at slaughter, these carcasses have a high probability of being seized because of the presence of cysticercoids (t. solium), losing a high percentage of its economic value; due to absence of slaughterhouses in rural communities, this meat is directed to consumption without health inspection, increasing the risk of transmission of this zoonosis. this paper describes the productive and reproductive characteristics of the backyard production system of pigs in a rural community. human to pig ratio was 3:1. during the year, 308 piglets were born in 43 litters, 51.7% males and 48.3% females, with an average weight of 40.47 kg at 6 months and 65.30 kg at 10 months. they were slaughtered at 7.3 months on average. the highest death rate was found between 0 and 1 month of age. in many rural communities of mexico pigs are fed with waste generated in homes, helping maintain the communities clean, as well as with the excreta of other species that usually roam freely, situation that can promote dissemination of parasitic diseases.

Medicina Intensiva , 2009,
Abstract: posttraumatic tissular hypoxia can be due to multiple causes, including microcirculation disturbances, which can be studied with the sdf (side stream dark field) system. this system is based on a small hand-held microscope that eliminates directly reflected green polarised light from an organ surface using an orthogonal analyser. it offers clear images of red and white blood cells flow through microcirculation. specific software is later used to determine the lenght and density of microvessels. we present a case of a tbi patient who required surgical evacuation of a brain contusion. images of the microcirculatory bed were recorded with the sdf microscope and compared with a normal pattern obtained from another patient who was operated on for an unruptured cerebral aneurysm. both imaging and quantitative analyses showed significant differences in the cerebral microcirculatory status in these patients. total length and density of vessels were markedly reduced in the tbi patient. sdf imaging allows direct and non-invasive in vivo observation of cerebral microcirculation, and may allow us to deepen our knowledge of the pathophysiology of posttraumatic brain ischemia.

Alasbimn Journal , 2012,
