Juan Antonio Martín-Cartes, Manuel Bustos-Jiménez, María Jesús Tamayo-López, María del Carmen Palacios-González, Virginia Gómez-Cabeza de Vaca, Antonio Mu?oz Ortega
Surgical Science (SS) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/ss.2010.12008
Abstract: Aggressive angiomyxoma was first described in 1983 by Steeper and Rosai, and fewer than 150 cases have been reported in the world medical literature. It is a soft-tissue tumour of the pelvis and perineum. The recurrence rate is high, and often extensive resections are performed with considerable morbidity. These tumours are benign, locally infiltrative mesenchymal neoplasms with a predilection for the female pelvis and perineum and they usually tend to recur. Furthermore, these tumours often reach too large dimensions before becoming clinically symptomatic; their incidence is higher in women of the reproductive age group; however a few cases of its occurrence outside the pelvis have also been reported. In this study, we reported three cases with aggressive pelvic angiomyxoma treated with surgical methods and used an approach that described by Kraske in order to get access to lower rectal cancers. Accurate preoperative diagnosis should alert the surgeon to the need for wide excision, which is essential for prevention of local recurrence.
Random Matrix Approach to Correlation Matrix of Financial Data (Mexican Stock Market Case)  [PDF]
Juan Martín Casillas González, Antonio Alatorre Torres
Modern Economy (ME) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/me.2015.69099
Abstract: The main purpose of this work is to reproduce the method used for U.S. market which consists in the approach of random matrices to crossed correlation matrices built with financial data taken from a Mexican stock market database. First we built a cross correlation empirical matrix with these financial data. Eigenvalue spectrum was obtained from this matrix. We made the same spectrum analysis for a random matrix, and finally we compared both eigenvalue sets, and we tried to set up a hypothesis of how risk was related to this random matrix-correlation matrix approach. We used financial data over a period of six months and time series where made upon three hours measures for crossed correlation matrix.

Abstract: We describe the main results obtained in a statistical study carried out at the request of the Economy,Employment and Tourism Council of Melilla (Spain). These results were used in drawing up the firstphase of the Strategic Plan: Diagnosis and Analysis of the Situation of Melilla. The data analyzed wereobtained from the National Educational Council, the Ministry of Education and Science and the SpanishNational Institute of Statistics (INE), and the conclusions reached are set out in the present article. Forpurposes of comparison, we also made a comprehensive analysis of the real situation of the populationin the education sector, including a comparative study of Ceuta (Spain). These two Spanish enclaves inthe north of Africa in general present similar characteristics.

Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 93 patients diagnosed with COPD according to Spanish Thoracic Society (SEPAR) criteria. Patients were recruited in eight primary care centers in Andalusia, Spain. Anthropometric, sociodemographic, resting lung function (forced expiratory volume in one second [FEV1], forced vital capacity, synchronized vital capacity, IC), and quality of life data based on the Spanish version of Saint George’s Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) were obtained. Results: Lung function results expressed as percentages of the predicted values were as follows: FEV1, 49.04 (standard deviation [SD]: 16.23); IC, 61.73 (SD: 15.42). The SGRQ mean total score was 47.5 (SD 17.98). The Spearman’s Rho correlation between FEV1 and SGRQ was r = -0.36 (95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.529 to -0.166), between IC and SGRQ was r = -0.329 (95% CI -0.502 to -0.131), and between FEV1 and IC was r = 0.561. Conclusions: Measurement of IC at rest could be used as a complementary functional exploration to forced spirometry in the monitorization of patients with COPD in the primary care setting. We found a poor correlation between IC and quality of life at the same level as in FEV1.
Conservative management of a recurrent puerperal uterine inversion with bakri® balloon tamponade  [PDF]
Jesús Joaquín Hijona Elósegui, Francisco Javier Frutos Arenas, Antonio Carballo García, Juan Antonio López López, Gabriel Castilla Peinado Peinado, Juan Manuel Torres Martí
Open Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OJOG) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ojog.2011.14038
Abstract: Puerperal Uterine Inversion (PUI) is a rare but potentially life-threatening delivery complication in which the uterine fundus collapses within the endometrial cavity. This “glove-finger” introflexion of uterine walls generally occurs as an immediate postpartum complication and is responsible of different degrees of vaginal bleeding, shock and hypogastric pain that can cause serious maternal complications, including death. There are few reports of recurrent postpartum uterine inversion like the one we present here, and its causes remain unclear. Early diagnosis of this complication is crucial as it is the only one measure that can allow a successful and conservative treatment: an inverse relationship between the time that uterus keeps inverted and the probability of repositioning has been firmly established. This case report describes the exceptional and innovative use of the SOS Bakri® balloon (Cook Medical Incorporated) in the management of a recurrent puerperal uterine inversion. To our knowledge it is one of the first reports in the world of this procedure, perhaps the second one after Soleymani’s et al description; and the first one in a third degree recurrent puerperal uterine inversion.

Journal of Geoscience and Environment Protection (GEP) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/gep.2016.412009
Abstract: Corriente River is part of the middle Parana basin and it is an inland river of the Corrientes Province of Argentine. This paper studies variation in time of some physicochemical parameters (conductivity, alkalinity, hardness, sulfates and chlorides) measured between 1998 and 2014. The correlations of the data correspond to three fixed stations monitoring. The analysis of results takes into account the influence of the seasonal rainfall patterns regimes as determinants in the natural composition of the water resources studied. Moreover composition of the river has been registered as a valid reference to predict probable changes by human activity.
Universidades populares en Espa?a y su relación con la universidad suramericana
López-Nú?ez,Juan Antonio; Lorenzo-Martín,Manuel Enrique;
Educación y Educadores , 2009,
Abstract: this study outlines the aspects that are crucial to understanding the popular university project begun in spain in 1901. after a brief historical analysis, its present situation is explained against the backdrop of adult education as an in-depth philosophy, and the project is shown to be valid even today, in our society. the primary feature of the project is its organization in the form of a network, not only nationwide, but in terms of its relationship with other popular universities, particularly those in south america, which constitute its main source of work. although it was established more than one hundred years ago in europe and south america, the project continues to be an institution for adult education that offers an unusual form of training adapted entirely to the needs of its students.
