Poljoprivreda (Osijek) , 2008,
Abstract: Utilization of the Mediterranean shrubby vegetation is often limited by secondary compounds, such as terpenes, which at too high concentrations can adversely affect forage intake and animal health. Ingesting compounds such as activated charcoal and energy can ameliorate the negative effects of secondary compounds and enable animals to eat more shrubs. Thus, our objectives were to determine if supplemental charcoal, energy and numbers of shrub species offered influenced intake of shrubs by sheep and goats. We conducted three experiments each with 12 lambs and 12 kids (6 activated charcoal vs. 6 controls). In the first experiment, we initially offered three shrubs (Juniperus phoenicea, Helichrysum italicum and Juniperus oxicedrus),) then in the second one, two shrubs (Juniperus phoenicea and Helichrysum italicum), and finally one shrub (Juniperus phoenicea) in the third experiment. In all three experiments (Exp. 1, P<0.001; Exp. 2, P < 0.0003 and Exp. 3, P < 0.03), supplemental charcoal and energy had a positive effect on total shrub intake for both lambs and kids. Kids ate more shrubs than lambs did in all three experiments (P<0.01). Regardless of experiment, both species of animals showed a numerical decrease in total shrub intake, with or without supplemental charcoal and energy, as the number of shrub species on offer decreased. Our findings support the hypothesis that biochemical diversity plays an important role in diet selection, thus enabling animals to better meet their nutritional needs and avoid toxicity.

Optimizing computer system configurations
Dujmovi? Jozo J.
Journal of Automatic Control , 2003, DOI: 10.2298/jac0302023d
Abstract: We present a quantitative method for selecting optimum configurations of computer systems. For each configuration we specify a set of requirements reflecting user's needs. The level of satisfaction of requirements is called the global preference score. Using this indicator and the total cost of each configuration we solve the following optimization problems: (1) select a configuration which maximizes the global preference score for a constrained cost of computer system, (2) select a configuration which attains a given level of global preference for a minimum cost, and (3) select a configuration which attains the maximum global preference/cost ratio. We first present the optimization method and then a complete case study of computer optimization.

Vojnosanitetski Pregled , 2011, DOI: 10.2298/vsp1102161c
Abstract: Background/Aim. Tibial perfusion in diabetic microangiopathy is considered to be a diagnostic problem. A special place in quantifying muscle microcirculatory perfusion belongs to thallium 201 muscle perfusion scintigraphy (201Tl PS). Thallium, showing the characteristics of potassium (K+), enters a cell by means of active cell transportation and follows erythrocyte up to the tissue. The aim of this study was to determine if 201Tl PS of lower extremities (LE) is a good method for estimating muscle microcirculatory perfusion in diabetic microangiopathy. Methods. The study included 32 patients of an average age 66.1 ± 14.9 years with signs of LE ischemia befalling into III and IV stage of ischemic disease according to the Lariche-Fontain classification. Out of that number there were 27 of the patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), while 5 of the patients were with Burger's disease and Raynand's disorder. Lower extremities PS was performed after 3 min of tibial loading by the use of dorsoplantar foot flexion and intravenous 74 MBq 201Tl as a 10-minute dynamic study. A 10 minute static scintigraphy was carried out of the gluteal region, femurs, tibias and feet per a position and repeated after 3 h at rest in the same projections. The results were interpreted visually and by the semiquantitive method using a program for calculating the number of pulses per pixel in the corresponding region over 1-, 2- and 10-minute dynamic study, thus obtaining numerical data for estimating perfusion. Binding ratio in both legs was estimated visually as low (1), medium (2) and significant (3) difference in both legs. The results were compared with doppler hemodynamic indices (PI and RI). Results. Regardless the group, 201Tl binding intensity rising was significantly 2 min after application, as compared to 1 min, and the obtained level of binding was maintained even after 10 min. In the group Fontain III the majority of the patients showed a medium difference in binding 201Tl (2) in regard to the group Fontain IV with the patients having a low difference (1) between both legs and a significant difference between both legs (3). A statistically significant positive correlation was obtained between the values of RI index regarding distal region of a. tibialis posterior (p < 0.05, r = 0.43), as well as a. tibialis anterior (p = 0.05, r = 0.38). There was no correlation for the PI index. Low collateral net development based on the values for the indices PI and RI showed a less muscle perfusion on 201Tl in regard to medium and well developed collateral net wi

Poljoprivreda (Osijek) , 2001,
Abstract: In the period 1997-1999 vegetable areas in Croatia were reduced by 8.2% and potatoes by 17.3% compared to the pre-war period. Slavonia and Baranya region is known for 16.8% of potatoes domestic production. Total production costs of mercantile potatoes on a farm of Vukovar region amount to HRK 26,828.66 /ha of 8which 11,750.00 accounts for seed consumption, 4796.70 machinery work, 4371.38 human labour, 1334.47 fertilizers, 1352.94 manure and 1907.35 chemical agents. Two hundred and ninety nine human labour hours and 61.9 machinery work hours were consumed per hectare. A profit of HRK 5671.34/ha was obtained by the yield of 25 t/ha. The work productivity was 83.6 kg/hour and profitability 21.14%. Amount of HRK 26,342.78/ha was consumed at a production of 23,834 kg/ha on a farm in Brodsko-Posavian county. The work productivity was 93.1 kg/hr. with 10.8 hr/t whereas profitability amounted to 17.52%. Early potatoes growing is profitable on the insured market. A profit of HRK 7.761.00/ha was attained from 8.000 kg/ha or HRK 32.02 per HRK100 invested in production.

Poljoprivreda (Osijek) , 2001,
Abstract: Wheat consumption in the world increases and its importers are some European countries too. The present price of wheat grain will make selling at the market difficult for manufactures from the Republic of Croatia. Conditions and results of four year organizational - economical investigations of conventional and four ways of reduced soil tillage at wheat production are displayed in this paper. Total of 9.35 hours/ha of machinery work and 114.3 l/ha of fuel are consumed at conventional soil tillage. Total costs are 1660 DM/ha. Price of grain is 276.71 DM/t and profit amounts to 187.83 DM/ha. If the soil tillage is done by a disk harrow costs of the machinery work reduce to 471.36 DM/ha and profitability amounts to 16.5%. When soil tillage is done by multitiller with classical sowing, a yield of 5.65 t/ha st price of 273.37 DM/t and investment profitability 12.7% are obtained. Direct sowing by a Rotosem, without previous tillage, requires 11.66 hours/ha of human work and 7.18 hours/ha of machinery work. to meet the total costs 4.9 t/ha of grains need. In order to get equipment, 98 t of grains from land of 17.5 ha should be given annually during the period of 8 years. Plughing and sowing by Rotosem give 5.9 t/ha grains at price of 279.36 DM/t. Total energy cost at conventional production is 30085 and at reduced one it is 27972 MJ/ha.

Medicinski Glasnik , 2012,
Abstract: Aim To show our experience in treatment of patients with penetratingchest injuries sustained during the Homeland War in Croatia. Methods It was a retrospective study based on the records of the Department of Surgery of the University Hospital of Osijek (Croatia). All patients surgically treated during the wartime period(1991.-1995.) were analysed with respect to death rate, causes of injuries, frequency of injuries of thoracic organs and frequency of combined injuries of thorax and abdomen. Most of our patients were treated with thoracotomy as opposed to the common protocol (thoracostomy) applied in usual treatments. Results The study includes 157 patients with penetrating chest wounds, 111 (70.7%) of which were from metal fragments of bursting artillery, 37 (23.6%) of the wounded were exposed to gunshot bullets, and 9 (5.7%) had stab injuries. Lung injuries had 134 (85.4%) patients, and15 (9.6%) had injuries of the heart. Chest injuries combined with injuries of abdominal organs happened in 30 (19%) cases. The abdominal organs in question were the liver, spleen, stomach, and colon, in eight (26.6%), seven (23.3%), four (13.3%), and three (10.0%) cases, respectively. Thoracotomy was performed in 144 (91.7%) cases, 13 (8.3%) of the patients underwent thoracostomy, and 134 (85.3%) patients stayed alive. Conclusion It points out that, in our case due to organizational problems, aggressive surgical procedure of patients with penetrating chest and multiple injuries sustained in war was the good choice.
