Problem Solving at Provinha Brazil: Implications of Educational Historical and Cultural Theory  [PDF]
José Carlos Miguel, V. P. Silva
Creative Education (CE) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2015.615169
Abstract: This study discusses the methodological perspective of problem solving facing the guidelines of the Reference Matrix Literacy Mathematics Home, Provinha Brazil, and their implications for teaching practice. Leaving ample literature, it proceeds to the documentary analysis of the latest attempts to curricular reorganization in the Brazilian context, with emphasis on categories established based on the themes traditionally broadcast in the classroom. The analysis is based on categories established from the great themes of mathematical science conveyed in the initial mathematical literacy and its implications for social, political and economic. Also it addresses aspects that stand out in discussions with teachers in initial or continuing education process. Results indicate distance between the ideas discussed in Provinha Brazil and the need to establish a satisfactory relationship which allows the meanings spectrum negotiations aimed at reworking of arithmetic procedures to make them more general, less dependent on contextual variables and less subject to errors of various kinds.
On conditional Lebesgue property for conditional risk measures
José Orihuela,José Miguel Zapata
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: In this paper we first carry out a study of the connection between the notion of locally $L^0$-convex modules, the analytic basis of the conditional risk measures, and the notion of conditional locally convex spaces. Second, we provide a conditional version of the classical James' Theorem of characterization of weak compactness. Finally, as application of the developed theory we stablish a version of the so-known Jouini-Schachermayer-Touzi Theorem for robust representation of conditional $L^0$-convex risk measures defined on a $L^\infty$-type module with the conditional Lebesgue property.
A angústia dos corpos indóceis: prostitui??o e conflito armado na Col?mbia contemporanea
Olivar, José Miguel Nieto;
Cadernos Pagu , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-83332008000200016
Abstract: one of the control strategies used by armed groups as the conflict worsens in colombia is the control and "management" of prostitution (sexuality in general) in the territories under domination. a sex industry, characterized by violence, fear, manipulation and restricted options, is produced in this situation. what does it means to be a prostitute in the context of armed control in contemporary colombia? what possibilities do these female sex workers have to exercise their human rights in this context? these questions first arose through our close contact with lady, "comadre" and friend, between 2003 and 2005. subsequent field work was conducted in 2007 in puerto berrío (central colombia), aiming at the ethnographic reconstruction of the meaning of prostitution within a paramilitary context of male domination in contemporary colombia. the traffic of women is shown to be the female part of the recruitment; although the process may be considered relatively voluntary, the final configuration is one of retention-punishment with high costs for the female experience.

Ried Undurraga,José Miguel;
Ius et Praxis , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-00122008000200013
Abstract: this paper analyzes the mandatory requirements of filing official translations of documents written in foreign languages before public entities, and legalizing foreign public documents, offering a critic analysis of the applicable chilean rules. this work concludes that the regulation and practice in our country on these subjects pose relevant obstacles for international commerce and economic integration, goals which chile intends to achieve. the author proposes simple solutions that may represent an advance in these matters. regarding the legalization of public documents granted abroad, this work includes a study on the hague convention abolishing the requirement of legalization for foreign public documents of october, 1961, and the feasibility of its implementation in chile, taking into consideration the international experience. our country's entering into this convention, would imply a great simplification of the document legalization paperwork currently required in chile, which is usually long and cumbersome. regarding the translations requirement, this paper analyzes the requirements that different public chilean entities have set forth on this matter, proposing alternatives that may hasten the filing of documents written in other languages. this may be of special relevance when considering that these documents are usually required in connection with judicial procedures, public bidding processes and commercial transactions, which commonly are subject to tight time frames.
A influência da genética na dependência tabágica e o papel da farmacogenética no tratamento do tabagismo
Chatkin, José Miguel;
Jornal Brasileiro de Pneumologia , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1806-37132006000600016
Abstract: despite the considerable efforts made in the fight against smoking in the last decades, there are still substantial numbers of people who, in full knowledge of the health hazards, begin smoking or continue smoking. recent studies have focused on the genetic bases of the nicotine addiction. various genetic polymorphisms have been associated with smoking. however, environmental factors have also been shown to play a role. in this review, we present some of the principal data collected in genetic studies of smoking behavior. the results obtained through this line of research will eventually aid clinicians in individualizing the type, dosage and duration of treatment for patients with nicotine dependence in accordance with the genotype of each smoker, thereby maximizing the efficacy of the proposed treatment regimen.

Abstract: bovine spongiform encephalopathy ("mad cow disease") appears in a moment and in a context that highlights the achievements and failures of biotechnology. the reality of globalization evidences the need to set limits to a technoscience viewed as unlimited because of its breakthroughs. livestock industry profitability versus public health have been placed on the balance. mad cow disease is an unforeseen stumble, since it was something unexpected in a system considered as perfect. this fact has disclosed a fissure that is contextual for the moment. human contagion is a red alert, a warning sign that must be taken into account. crisis is just in its initial stage
Modelo teórico de asignación óptica del recurso hídrico en la frontera Guajira Colombo-Venezuela
Sánchez,José Miguel;
Agroalimentaria , 2004,
Abstract: the carraipía-paraguachón river basin is an area between the venezuelan and colombian borders, a zone of great economic importance for both countries. this area is characterized by climatic conditions that produce negative effects such as flooding during part of the year as well as droughts in others. in this scenario, the author proposes diverse measures to obtain greater water resources and achieve its conservation. within these objectives is the determination of the optimum operational characteristics in assigning water resources to a reservoir for the two countries. to achieve this objective, the proposed methodology makes reference to using a dynamic optimization model (applying optimum control theory) that can be employed to identify management plans that better adjust to society?s objectives.
Valoración económica del proceso de descontaminación en la laguna de los mártires, isla de Margarita, Venezuela
Sánchez,José Miguel;
Agroalimentaria , 2002,
Abstract: natural resources and the flow of environmental services are assets subject to assessment by a series of benefits to society. the contingent assessment method offers the possibility of estimating value generated by some of these services, such as those which come from the martires lake on margarita island in venezuela. the maximum paying ability (mdap) was estimated for improving present levels of non marketable services such as the quality of the lakeside using an environmental recuperation project. the obtained results for the mdap were the same as bs. 4.271,64 per person. this figure constitutes only one indicator of the value lakeside recuperation represents, on the average, for the sample studied.
Investigación de Resultados en Enfermería: El camino hacia la efectividad de los cuidados
Morales Asencio,José Miguel;
Index de Enfermería , 2004, DOI: 10.4321/S1132-12962004000100008
Abstract: there is a highlighted interest about the way in which the countries can give an effective response to the raising health care demand. phenomena as the aging of the population, the raising dependency, cronicity of diseases and the inflation of citizens' expectations, are forcing, faced to limited resources, to elucidate closely which health care interventions produce better outcomes in the population. thereby, a research line about outcomes research has developed trying to give answers to this question, but it is full of methodological difficulties: how can we measure outcomes in health? are the clinical parameters the best? or the citizen view (satisfaction, health related quality of life.)? or through the cost-driven view?... it must be added the raising variability of the clinical practice, a direct obstacle for the homogeneization of outcomes in health care. in other hand, it is not easy to determine who are the key agents for reaching outcomes, so there is an additional difficulty: the biomedical oriented outlook is not explicative enough for this purpose. an important part of outcomes depend on human responses to the health situation; therefore, years ago the term nursing practice-sensitive outcomes. in this paper, the different approaches to this concern are exposed, with the current state of development after the incorporation of the nursing outcomes classification, and the developing areas in this type of research.
