Abstract: the imbalance in the production of reactive oxygen species and the antioxidant defense brings about oxidative damage known as oxidative stress that leads to a series of physiological and biochemical changes which cause cell deterioration and death. this type of damage may be measured by direct or indirect methods. the direct methods comprise, among others, the measurement of oxidant agent concentrations, which is a difficult procedure because of the short lifetime of such agents and the high cost of equipment; therefore, it is necessary to measure them by indirect methods such as 1) determination of terminal products from oxidant action on biomolecules: the methods to measure lipid peroxides are the golden pattern for proving the role of oxidants in any kind of cellular damage.2) measurement of antioxidant concentrations: the results of several studies showed that the levels of antioxidants may diminish or increase in lot of diseases, so if they are monitored, they may serve as markers of diseases or for therapeutical follow-up. 3) measurement of the total antioxidant state: it shows the dynamic balance between the antioxidant system and the prooxidants, being useful for a lot of diseases. innumerable efforts are made worldwide for developing new and simpler methods. who knows if, in the years to come, physicians will prescribe their patients as a routine procedure, the measurement of cholesterol and glucose together with the determination of oxidative stress.

Abstract: El desbalance en la producción de especies reactivas del oxígeno y la defensa antioxidante provoca un da o oxidativo conocido como estrés oxidativo, que lleva a una variedad de cambios fisiológicos y bioquímicos, los cuales provocan el deterioro y muerte celular. Se puede medir este tipo de da o mediante métodos directos e indirectos. Entre los primeros tenemos la medición de la concentración de agentes oxidantes, que es muy difícil por su corta vida media y lo costoso que resultan los equipos, lo que hace imprescindible medirlos indirectamente mediante: 1) Determinación de productos terminales de la acción oxidante sobre biomoléculas: los métodos para medir peróxidos lipídicos son el patrón de oro, cuando se trata de probar el papel de los oxidantes en algún tipo de da o celular. 2) Medición de la concentración de antioxidantes: los resultados de diferentes estudios muestran que los niveles de antioxidantes pueden disminuir o aumentar en muchas enfermedades, por lo que al monitorearlos pueden ser utilizados como marcadores de enfermedad o para el seguimiento terapéutico. 3) Medición del estado antioxidante total: este método refleja el balance dinámico entre el sistema antioxidante y los prooxidantes y es beneficioso en un sinnúmero de enfermedades. Son incontables los esfuerzos que se realizan en el ámbito mundial para el desarrollo de nuevos y más sencillos métodos. Quién sabe si dentro de algunos a os los médicos pueden indicar a sus pacientes, de forma rutinaria, junto al colesterol o la glucosa, la medición del da o oxidativo. Ergopanin un producto natural con actividad estimulante y ergogénica

Abstract: in an experimental model of fatigue, developed in balb/c mice, authors measured stimulant activity of ergopanin, a product manufactured from natural sources. two control groups were used: saline and white, this one without active principles in to types of per os treatment, other of 7 days length, and an experimental group with a dose of 10 mg/kg, calculated from active principles. there weren′t significant differences between two control groups in both treatments. it was noted presence of significant differences between saline control group, and the experimental group in both types of treatment. we conclude that ergopanin has an stimulating activity (ergogenic) with the dose used in the two instances.
Efecto antiviral de tinturas de Hypericum spp. cultivadas en Cuba

Abstract: a study in vitro was made to demonstrate the antiretroviral activity of 2 hypericum species obtained in cuba (fasciculatum and styphelioids). hepatitis b virus surface antigen (hbsag) was used and mixed with both species at concentrations of 1,5,10,20and 30mg/ml and then incubated at 24h, 48h, 72h and 7d, 14d and 21d. then the reduction of antigenicity in vitro was evaluated by a sandwich-type immunoenzymagtic assay elisa that quantifies hbsag. it was observed that antigenicity decreased at 24 h for all the tested concentrations; however, from 72h on, a significant reduction of antigenicity occurred at ag concentrations below the limit values recorded for elisa tests performed. this study represents a possibility to be used for hbsag and in hiv treatment.
Ergopanin un producto natural con actividad estimulante y ergogénica

Abstract: Se midió en un modelo experiental de fatiga desarrollado en ratones Balb/c la actividad estimulante del ERGOPANIN, producto elaborado a partir de fuentes naturales. Fueron utilizados 2 grupos controles salina y blanco, este sin principios activos en 2 tipos de tratamiento, por vía oral; único con una sola dosis y otro de 7 días de duración y un grupo experimental con la dosis de 10 mg/kg calculada a partir de los principios activos. Se encuentra que no existe diferencias significativas entre los 2 grupos controles en los 2 tratamientos. Se aprecia diferencias significativas entre el grupo control salina y el grupo experimental en ambos tratamientos. Se concluye que el ERGOPANIN posee actividad estimulante (ergogénica) a las dosis utilizadas en ambos tratamientos. Efecto antiviral de tinturas de Hypericum spp. cultivadas en Cuba

Abstract: Se realizó un estudio in vitro para demostrar la actividad antirretroviral de 2 especies de Hypericum obtenidas en Cuba (fasciculatum y styphelioides); se trabajó con el antígeno de superficie del virus de la hepatitis B, el cual se mezcló con ambas especies a las concentraciones de 1,5,10,20 y 30 mg/mL y se incubó durante 24, 48, 72 h y 7,14, y 21 días, y posteriormente se evaluó la disminución de la antigenicidad in vitro por un ensayo inmunoenzimático tipo sandwich que se utilizó para cuantificar el antígeno de superficie del virus de la hepatitis B. Se apreció una disminución de la antigenicidad a partir de las 24 h para todas las concentraciones probadas, pero a partir de las 72 h se encontró una significativa disminución de esta antigenicidad. Este estudio representa una posibilidad para utilizar este producto en el tratamiento de enfermedades producidas por retrovirus como el virus de la hepatitis B y el VIH. This study represents a possibility to be used for HbsAg and in HIV treatment.
Actividad de la Indigofera suffruticosa Mill en la epilepsia crónica experimental y su relación con aminoácidos neurotransmisores

Abstract: authors determined plasma amino accids levels in model of experimental epilepsy with lidocaine-induced "kindling". five groups were asseyed: one group of animals without treatment, another group of animals "kindled", which given mentrum, and the latter ones, given (per os) a dose of 0.06 g/kg pc of fluid extract from indigofera suffructicosa (wild indigo) to a group during treatment and to another one, before and during treatment in the development of model. amino acids, taurine, glycine, thyrosine, phenylalanine, glutamic acid, and tryptophan levels were quantified using a amino acid analyser. there were significant differences (p < 0.05) in glutamic acid, taurine, and glycine levels in animals treated with regard to controls. behavioural measurements were made.

Abstract: Se determinaron los niveles de aminoácidos plasmáticos en el modelo de epilepsia experimental kindling inducido por lidocaína. Se ensayaron 5 grupos: un grupo de animales sin tratamiento, otro de animales kindleados, otro de animales kindleados al que se le suministró el menstruo y los 2 últimos grupos a los cuales se les adminitró por vía oral la dosis de 0.06 g/kg pc del extracto fluido de la planta Indigofera suffructicosa (a il cimarrón), en un grupo durante el tratamiento y en otro antes y durante el tratamiento en el desarrollo del modelo. Los niveles de aminoácidos, taurina, glicina, tirosina, fenilalanina, ácido glutámico y triptófano fueron cuantificados en un analizador de aminoácidos, y se encontró diferencias significativas (p < 0.05) en al ácido glutámico, taurina y glicina en los animales tratados con respecto a los controles. Actividad estimulante de la fracción de saponósidos triterpénicos de la Polyscias fruticosa (L.) Harms (aralia) y la fracción de gingeroles del Zingiber officinales Roscoe (jengibre)

Abstract: by means of chemical fractionation, triterpenic saponosides from polyscias fructicosa (l) (aralia), and gigerols from zingiber officianale roscoe (ginger) fere obtained. both, crude fractions from polycias, and butanolic fraction (pbf), aqueous one (paf); and crude fraction of gingerols were pharmacologically asseyed in an experimental model of fatigue, to know its potential stimulating activity. authors carried out a chromatographic study for saponosides and gingerols, and its presence in crudes, was detected. we determined that pbf fraction from aralia and the crude of gingerols, have stimulating activity (per os) in sigle dose of 10 and 25 mg/kg, respectively.

Abstract: Se extrajeron mediante fraccionamiento químico los saponósidos triterpénicos de la Polyscias fruticosa (L.) HARMS (Aralia) y los gingeroles del Zingiber officinale Roscoe (jenjibre). Las 2 fracciones crudas de la Polyscias; la fracción butánolica (FBP), la acuosa (FAP); y la fracción cruda de gingeroles se ensayaron farmacológicamente en un modelo experimental de fatiga, para conocer su posible actividad estimulante. Se realizó un estudio cromatográfico para saponósidos y gingeroles, y se detectó la presencia de éstos en los crudos. Se determinó que la fracción FBP de la aralia y el crudo de gingeroles, tienen actividad estimulante por vía oral en dosis única de 10 y 25 mg/kg respectivamente.
