Abstract: The aim was to detect the presence of bundles of collagen fibers in the margins of the esophageal hiatus and establish if there is any relationship of these bundles with the anatomy of the hiatus. Ten adult male cadavers, with no gross anatomical alteration caused by trauma, surgery or disease, upon the esophageal hiatus were used in the study. A piece of anatomical structure comprising the diaphragm with the esophageal hiatus and adjacent tissues was removed, dissected and 10% formol embedding. With the aid of a digital caliper, measurements of the perimeter of the esophageal hiatus were done both in the abdominal and thoracic sides. For the structural study each margin was divided in six sections. Staining techniques of Masson and Picrosirius-hematoxilin were used. Collagen fibers bundles had been found in 8/10 studied cadavers, distributed in 13 margins of the hiatus, of which 7 to left and 6 to the right. The muscle fibers originating from the right pillar had participated in forming both margins of the esophageal hiatus in 60% of cadavers, while in 40%, the fibers of the left pillar had formed the medial side of the right margin. The right margin was statistically thicker than the left. It did not have a correlation between the measures of the vertices of the angles superior/inferior and the transversal measure of the esophageal hiatus. The measures between the vertices of the angles superior/inferior, respectively, with the central tendon and median arcuate ligament, had presented thoracic values that tended to the double, in relation to the abdominal ones, and had been statistically significant. These distances were smaller in cadavers who possessed bundles of collagen fibers in the margins of the esophageal hiatus. Bundles of collagen fibers bundles were found in 65% of the 20 margins of the esophageal hiatus. The margins of the esophageal hiatus were predominantly formed by muscles fibers originated of the right pillar of the muscle diaphragm. The anatomical and morphometric data presented statistically significant values regarding: thickness of the right arm in relation to the left; distance between the vertex of the superior angle and the central tendon; and distance between the vertex of the inferior angle and the median arcuate ligament. Abstract: aim: describe the surgical procedure of transumbilical cholecystectomy using standard laparoscopic instruments. patients and methods: the study enrolled 12 patients, with average age 42,75 and average body mass index 30,76, who underwent transumbilical laparoscopic cholecystectomy. a 10 mmtrocar (scope 30°), 3mm and 5mm trocars were introduced in umbilical scar. in order to help dissection of cystic duct and cystic artery, a 2mm trocar was introduced in right flank if necessary. if available, a 5mm (30° scope) optic was introduced in a 5 mm trocar at the moment of clipping the cystic duct and cystic artery, giving passage to the clipper by the 10 mmtrocar. results: six patients underwent single porttransumbilical cholecystectomy. five used 2 sites. in a morbid obese patient, it was necessary to convert into a conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy (four sites) due to massive bleeding from cystic artery. all procedures were performed using standard laparoscopic instruments. there were no postoperative complications and all patients had excellent esthetic effect. conclusion: transumbilicalcholecystectomy using standard laparoscopic instruments represents a safe, feasible and possible surgical option.

Abstract: Introduction: One of the most common sequelae observed after dental trauma is root resorption. Objective: The aim of this study was to classify and discuss the external root resorption after a dental trauma, based on a literature review. Literature review: A bibliographic search was performed in the following databases: Medline, PubMed, and Lilacs, from 1997 to 2010. The following descriptors were used: Root resorption, Dental trauma and Classification. From a total of 152 articles found, 25 were selected: 24 in English and 1 in Spanish. Classic articles were also used in our study. External root resorption after dental traumas can be divided into superficial, inflammatory and replacement. It can also be verified in primary dentition as physiological and atypical resorptions. Conclusion: Each type of resorption presents clinical features as well as radiographic and histological aspects. Therefore, the dentist should know these characteristics to perform an early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, minimizing the sequelae related to this problem. Moreover, in primary dentition, the differential diagnosis between physiological and pathological resorption is important to avoid over-treatment.
Forma??o histórica do movimento adventista

Abstract: hoping to provide a comprehensive history of the seventh-day adventist church according to the representation of "work" and "message" by their adepts, the establishment of the church's symbolic representation, and the organizational practices guided by prophetess ellen g. white, this essay deals with the emergence, in millenarianism, of the adventist movement - which would transform the initial sect into a bureaucratically structured church, with its "commissioning" symbolically legitimized by the "mission". the presence of adventists in brazil between the end of the empire and the beginning of the first republic sustains the same initial characteristics of the movement, although it also generates numerous sects.

Abstract: thanks to the care of the architect tommaso gaudencio bezzi (1844-1915) in filing documents and countless newspaper articles related to the matters that involved himself directly and the monument to brazil's independence, it was possible for us to rescue relevant facts to the understanding of the monument-building conceived by him. many descriptions of that time enable us to have visions as much of the power of representation of the work and its repercussions on the city s?o paulo's society as in the work and activities of the architect. in this sense the text reproduces articles published in s?o paulo and rio de janeiro's main newspapers in the end of the second half of the 19th century. the articles describe the work in that historical moment and valorize the architect's activity, reminding us of the importance and complexity of architecture as an artistic production. "[…] the foundations and the ground floor have are already built. the brick of homogen contexture and great hardness is handmade, making on it, as if it was to be uncovered, all the moldings with a perfection whose secret only the italian workers have. hundreds of workers are in the labor, a number that should increase later when the distribution of work allows for that. an inclined plan, of great extension and powered by steam, takes the material to the top of the hill. it is expected that the sculptor bernadelli is the responsible for moulding the statue of d. pedro i and the others that shall decorate the building, which should, in a short time, be appreciated by the model in relief, which is carefully making mr. bezzi."

Abstract:

The stability of soybean genotypes is very important in breeding programs for not only the evaluation, selection, and production of cultivars but also the establishment of parameters required for the classification of genotypes into relative maturity groups (RMG). The aim of this study was to define stable genotypes for traits, such as days to flowering, days to maturity, and length of the reproductive period, and to classify them into RMG. For this purpose, 20 commercial soybean cultivars were evaluated in 12 environments distributed in the major producing regions of Brazil. Assessments according to the Eberhart and Russell method and the additive main effects and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) method were effective in the identification of stable genotypes and their classification into RMG. These methods can also be used collectively for this purpose. Our results showed that the AMMI method led to a better interpretation of genotype-environment interactions. Thus, RMG obtained on the basis of stable genotypes represented a good estimate of the relative maturity of soybean crops throughout Brazil.

Abstract: This paper presents the Taguchi Method, a statistical design modelling for experiments applied in environmental engineering. This method was applied to optimize the treatment conditions of polyester-resin effluent by means of Advanced Oxidative Processes (AOPs) using chemical oxygen demand (COD) as response parameter. The influence of each independent parameter including respective interactions was evaluated by Taguchi Method, which allowed determining the most statistically significant variables and conditions to best fit the process. Results showed that Taguchi Method is a very useful tool for environmental engineering field and possible simplifications of analysis and calculations through commercially available software.
