Quality indicators for scientific journals based on experts opinion
Elea Gimenez-Toledo,Jorge Manana-Rodriguez,Emilio Delgado-Lopez-Cozar
Computer Science , 2013,
Abstract: This paper presents the results and further development of a survey sent to 11,799 Spanish faculty members and researchers from various fields of the social sciences and the humanities, obtaining a total of 45.6% (5,368 responses) usable answers. Respondents were asked (a) to indicate the three most important journals in their field and (b) to rate them on a 0-10 scale according to their quality. The information obtained has been synthesized in two indicators which reflect the perceived quality of journals. Once the values were obtained, the journals were categorized according to each indicator and the ordinal positions were compared. Different profiles of journals are analyzed in connection with experts opinion, such as regional orientation, and the consensus among researchers is studied. Finally, the possibilities of extending the research and indicators to sets of international journals are explored.
Entropy-based disciplinarity indicator: role taxonomy of journals in scientific communication systems and isolation degree. Knowledge importation/exportation profiles from journals and disciplines
J. Manana-Rodriguez
Computer Science , 2013,
Abstract: In this research, a new indicator of disciplinarity-multidisciplinarity is developed, discussed and applied. EBDI is based on the combination of the frequency distribution of subject categories of journals citing or cited by the analysis unit and the spread and diversity of the citations among subject categories measured with Shannon-Wiener entropy. Its reproducibility, robustness and consistence are discussed. Four of the combinations of its values when applied to the cited and citing dimensions lead to a suggested taxonomy of the role that the studied unit might have in terms of the transformation of knowledge from different disciplines in the scientific communication system and its position respect a hypothetical thematic core of the discipline in which it has been classified. The indicator is applied to the journals belonging to the first quartile of JCR-SSCI 2011 Library and Information Science and an indicator-based taxonomy is applied and discussed, pointing to differential thematic roles of the journals analyzed.
EFECTO DEL CONTENIDO DE SODIO EN LA OBTENCIóN DE Na+-b-ALúMINA UTILIZANDO EL MéTODO DE PRECURSOR POLIMéRICO

DYNA , 2011,
Abstract: in this work was utilized the polymeric precursor method to synthesis ceramic powders of na+-b-alúmina. we were interested in determinate the initial quantity from sodium precursor and its effect on crystalline phase obtained. powders obtained were characterized using infrared spectroscopy (ftir), x-ray diffraction (xrd) and scanning electron microscopy (sem). the effect of the initial quantity of sodium in the sample was very important in the nature of the final product. if we used one stoichiometric quantity of naoh, to obtain naal11o17 compound, we obtained a-alúmina as finish product (1450oc). on the other hand, b-alúmina and/or na2al2xo3x-1 were obtained in samples treated thermicalment from 1000oc to 1350oc. when we used a higher quantity of naoh, sample non-stoichiometric, a solid with naal11o17 as majority phase was obtained.
EFECTO DEL CONTENIDO DE SODIO EN LA OBTENCIóN DE Na+ -B-ALúMINA UTILIZANDO EL MéTODO DE PRECURSOR POLIMéRICO
VANESSA RUIZ,JORGE RODRIGUEZ
DYNA , 2011,
Hadronic Decays of Beauty and Charm from CLEO
Jorge L. Rodriguez
Physics , 1999, DOI: 10.1063/1.57752
Abstract: A selection of recent results on hadronic charm and beauty decays from the CLEO experiment are presented. We report preliminary evidence for the existence of final state interactions in B decays and the first observation of the decay B0 -> D*+D*- with a branching fraction of (6.2^{+4.0}_{-2.9}+/- 1.0)x10^{-4}. We also present preliminary results on the first observation of the broad, J^P=1^+, charmed meson resonance with a mass of 2.461^{+0.041}_{-0.034}+/-0.010+/-0.032 GeV and a width of 290^{+101}_{-79}+/-26+/-36 MeV and branching fraction measurements of the B- -> D_J^0pi- decays. Finally, we report on search for the radial excitation of a spin 1 charmed meson, the D*'+, and on an improved measurement of the ratio of (D0 -> K+pi-)/(D0 -> K-pi^+) decay rates.
Factorization and Color-Suppression in Hadronic B->D^(*)npi Decays
Jorge L. Rodriguez
Physics , 1996,
Abstract: The factorization hypothesis and color-suppression are investigated by analyzing the largest, to date, sample of B mesons. In all, 20 hadronic two-body decay modes are reconstructed using 2.04 fb^-1 of data collected with the CLEOII detector. We measure the branching fraction of five class I and five class III decay modes and set upper limits on branching fractions of ten class II decays. The branching fraction measurements are used to determine the BSW parameters a_1, and a_2/a_1. In addition, we measure the fraction of B-> D^{*+} rho^- decays which decay longitudinally polarized. The results are found to be consistent with factorization and color-suppression.
$b \to c$ Hadronic Decays
Jorge L. Rodriguez
Physics , 1998,
Abstract: A review of current experimental results on exclusive hadronic decays of bottom mesons to a single or double charmed final state is presented. We concentrate on branching fraction measurements conducted at $e^+e^-$ colliders at the $\Upsilon(4s)$ and at the $Z^0$ resonance. The experimental results reported are then used in tests of theoretical model predictions, the determination of the QCD parameters $a_1$ and $a_2/a_1$ and tests of factorization
Measurement of sin2phi_1 at Belle
Jorge L. Rodriguez
Statistics , 2000, DOI: 10.1142/S0217751X01007595
Abstract: With 6.2 fb^-1 of data collected on the Upsilon(4S), Belle reports its first measurement of sin 2\phi_1 = 0.45^{+0.43}_{-0.44}(stat)^{+0.07}_{-0.09}(sys). The result was obtained by fitting the proper time distribution of flavor tagged and fully reconstructed neutral B mesons decays to five different charmonia plus a Kshort or Klong channels. In this paper the analysis and results will be described briefly.

Abstract: The changes of blood erythrocytes transport function in patients with prostate adenocarcinoma have been studied according to alterations in Na+/K+-ATP-ase activity and permeability of Na+ and K+ ions, before and after the plastic orchiectomy. The results of the study revealed that activity of Na+/K+-ATP-ase was increased compared with the data before the orchiectomy, but this parameter was reduced compared with control group. The increased amounts of the Na+ as well as K+ ions were also observed in the extracellular area compared with the same data before the orchiectomy. The amount of cholesterol, after plastic orchiectomy, was reduced compared with the data gained before orchiectomy, but the data were greater than those of the control group. It may be presumed that one of the reasons for change of Na+/K+-ATP-ase activity is variation of cholesterol content in erythrocyte membrane. Changes of the active transport system, in turn, affect the transport function of the erythrocyte membrane. In spite of surgical intervention, full recovery of patients does not take place after the plastic orchiectomy. Comparative normalization and approaching to the control group of the given indices in post-operation period (~6 months after surgery) indicate strengthening of the immune system and correspondinglyprotective abilities of an organism, which was proved by the anamneses of patients.
Prediction Capabilities of VLF/LF Emission as the Main Precursor of Earthquake
Manana Kachakhidze,Nino Kachakhidze
Physics , 2013,
Abstract: Recent satellite and ground-based observations proved that in earthquake preparation period in the seismogenic area we have VLF/LF and ULF electromagnetic emissions. According to the opinion of the authors of the present paper this phenomenon is more universal and reliable than other earthquake indicators. Hypothetically, in case of availability of adequate methodological grounds, in the nearest future, earth VLF/LF electromagnetic emission might be declared as the main precursor of earthquake. In particular, permanent monitoring of frequency spectrum of earth electromagnetic emission generated in the earthquake preparation period might turn out very useful with the view of prediction of large (M 5) inland earthquakes. The present paper offers a scheme of the methodology according to which the reality of the above given hypothesis can be checked up. To prove the prediction capabilities of earth electromagnetic emission we have used avalanche-like unstable model of fault formation and an analogous model of electromagnetic contour, synthesis of which, according to our opinion, is rather harmonious.
