Journal of Behavioral and Brain Science (JBBS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jbbs.2018.810032
Abstract: Children reared in institutional environments present emotional and cognitive affectations, as well as changes in the anatomy and functioning of certain cerebral areas, such as the prefrontal cortex. However, knowledge of the long run effect of these affectations remains scarce. Therefore, this study was designed to correlate the cortical electroencephalographic (EEG) and psychopathological parameters. Resting EEG from 10 institutionalized (IA) and 10 never-institutionalized adolescents (NIA) was obtained and this was parametrically correlated with the intensity of symptoms of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety. Results showed that the IA group showed higher indices of depression, anxiety and PTSD, accompanied by low relative power (RP) in the fast bands, high activity in the slow bands in frontal areas, and higher alpha2 RP in temporal areas. In addition, IA showed higher EEG-correlations among frontal areas but lower EEG-correlations among prefrontal, parietal and temporal areas in the gamma band. We also found correlations between the EEG parameters and psychopathological scores. These EEG findings can contribute to improve our understanding of how stress experienced early in life may impact the development of the cortex, and how this, in turn, may predispose individuals to develop psychiatric conditions.

Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0074-02762010000100005
Abstract: a study was carried out to determine the distribution and habitat preferences of several species of the genus biomphalaria. samples were taken at 350 freshwater locations in cuba. three species of biomphalaria (biomphalaria havanensis, biomphalaria helophila and biomphalaria pallida) were recorded based on their distribution. of the three species, b. havanensis has the weakest distribution because it was identified in only one locality. the other species, b. helophila and b. pallida, are abundant in rivers and dams and have large populations in cuba. however, the only species that appears to occur in ecosystems shared with thiarids is b. pallida, possibly due to recent introduction of thiarids, but always in fewer numbers. here we discuss the possibility of these species to act as intermediary hosts of schistosoma mansoni in cuba over the basis of occurrence in natural and anthropic habitats.

Abstract: introduction: an ecological study was carried out on the lymnaeids species of cuba. both species are capable of serving as intermediary hosts of fasciola hepatica and occur in most of the wetland ecosystems. objective: to determine distribution and habitat preferences of fossaria cubensis and pseudosuccinea columella. methods: a total of 370 locations where freshwater snails exist were analysed. relative species abundance was associated with species diversity and antropic degree for each site. results: f. cubensis was the best distributed species with populations throughout the island whereas p. columella populations extend from pinar del río to camagüey. the preferred habitats by these species substantially varied, with f. cubensis predominating in transformed habitats (p= 0.024, m-w u test) and p. columella existing in natural and transformed habitats evenly (p= 0.08, m-w u test). the results regarding diversity showed that f. cubensis is more common in sites of low diversity related to higher levels of human activity. oppositely, p. columella is found in much more diverse ecosystems. conclusions: data over the distribution and ecology of these species supports the fact that f. cubensis acts as the main intermediary host of f. hepatica in cuba (extensive distribution and transformed habitats). control techniques against these populations were discussed.

Se discuten estrategias de control sobre estas poblaciones INTRODUCTION: an ecological study was carried out on the lymnaeids species of Cuba. INTRODUCTION: in Cuba, recent studies with colophony - a resin from Pinus caribaea and P. tropicalis - have shown its molluscicidal activity on Biomphalaria havanensis, intermediate host of schistosomosis. OBJECTIVE: to determine the impact of colophony on the heart activity and the hatching of B. havanensis eggs in lab. METHODS: lethal doses of colophony (LD50 y LD90) were used to determine their effect on heart activity and their ovicidal capacity on B. havanensis eggs. Heartbeats were counted using stethoscope. The ovicidal effect was observed in one day and 5-day laid eggs. RESULTS: as a result, this product had an impact on the embrionary development of one-day and five-day eggs; the latter were the least affected. In addition, a marked reduction in the number of heartbeats per minute was observed. CONCLUSION: colophony may be considered as possible option for control of B. havanensis because of their molluscicidal properties.
MECANISMOS DE PARTICIPACIóN CIUDADANA Y CONTROL SOCIAL EN LOS PROGRAMAS DE TRANSFERENCIA CONDICIONADA DE RENTA EN MéXICO Y BRASIL, UN ANáLISIS COMPARADO

Abstract: The globalization of the present economic policy imposes the search of the excellence based on the competition. The same is associate to the economies of scale like effective alternative to reduce the operative costs and to the abolition of protectionisms, that in Argentina are rigorously fulfilled. The effects of the policy are made feel in the different areas from production of materials, that in agreement with the possibilities of each type of industry they look for to adapt itself. In this work is analyzed the situation of the ceramic industry on the basis of the index of evolution of the construction in the last years, since approximately the 90 - 95 % of the argentine ceramic production is linked to it. Also was used the information coming from the most excellent companies and of the associations that group them. In the case of the production of refractories and glasses, the originating information of the companies was only considered. The ceramic production was classified in agreement with the following submarkets: red ceramics, tableware, floors and coatings and sanitary ware. The analysis of the three mentioned industries includes the characterization of the present situation of each of them and allows to enhance the predominant tendencies in each case.
