Body size, symmetry and courtship behavior of Dysdercus maurus distant (Hemiptera: Pyrrhocoridae)
Jorge, AS;Lom?naco, C;
Neotropical Entomology , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2011000300003
Abstract: this study analyses the role of body size and symmetry in the sexual selection and courtship behavior of dysdercus maurus distant. sexual conflicts signaled by coercive mating, female resistance, and pre-copulation fights illustrate the mating system. male-female struggles were observed in all mating attempts. females tried to reject males by pushing or running and even by vigorously shaking their bodies, in attempts to dislodge the male from their dorsum. in spite of sexual conflicts during courtship, females actively chose their mates based on morphological and behavioral traits. larger males with more symmetrical tibiae and longer tarsi that are better copula imposers were more successful in sexual competition. evidence is presented that sexual conflict and female mate choice should not be mutually excluded.
Lagos C.,Jorge L.;
Estudios filológicos , 2005, DOI: 10.4067/S0071-17132005000100007
Abstract: this paper discusses the concept of post modernism and proposes calvino's novel if a winter night a traveller as a text written in the context of post modernism, basically by considering the organizational textual strategies which generate its construction and carry both an implicit new conception of the novel genre and a metaphorical change in the conception of the traditional world
El "continuum" en El Túnel de Ernesto Sábato
Lagos C,Jorge L;
Estudios filológicos , 2004, DOI: 10.4067/S0071-17132004003900010
Abstract: the purpose of this paper is to develop and prove the idea of "continuum" and interpret the simbolic conjugal bond between love and death in ernesto sabato's el túnel, based on some strategies of the text. the encounter and non-encounter of the "continuum" is produced by the amalgamating eagerness and solipsism in the love relationship between j. p. castel and maría iribarne.
Lagos C,Jorge L;
Estudios filológicos , 1998, DOI: 10.4067/S0071-17131998003300013
Abstract: the purpose of this presentation shows the aesthetic codes taken from third year high school informant readers who belong to a subsidized private school in the city of arica. the correlation that is established between the literary theory and the goals proposed by the ministry of education in the area of literature constitutes a clear sample of teaching as well as the codes and variants proper, the latter being in agreement with the ways of approximation -and decodification- utilized by the informants when reading the texts conventionally given as literary texts.
Rueda C,Jorge;
Literatura y lingüística , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0716-58112012000200005
Abstract: this article describes and explains how the protagonists of this play build up, as from the main categories of play, a specific conscience of a second reality -playful- or of a downright unreality, in relation to the ordinary circumstances and with the story of abandonment and frustration that their lives represent.
El cambio psíquico y la innovación tecnológica
Franco,Jorge César;
Anuario de investigaciones , 2007,
Abstract: the problem of the description of psychic change in pregnant minors is an inverse problem (coleman, 1990), to conjecture starting from individual behavior and observe the collective behavior of the researched universe, attempting to conceptualize its intention. the team revealed data applying questionnaires, personalities tests and group meetings. to comprehend the data, a classic theoretical base was applied, and due to its insufficient range, it has been suggested to innovate integrating new therapeutic techniques of greater change potency. one dilemma: is pregnancy a problem or a solution? the positive change factors are: to take into consideration (1) the evolution of self concept and the importance that is been attributed to the minors, (2) follow up of the researchers, 83) the emotional stability generated, (4) self cognitive recategorizations and (5) promote better decisions in the peer group. these allows profits and diminish the obstacle of the equation cost-benefit and its restrictive effects.
Carvajal C,Jorge;
González C,Jorge;
Revista médica de Chile , 2000, DOI: 10.4067/S0034-98872000001000012
Abstract: cells respond to environmental or cellular changes, rapidly switching protein activities from one state to another. in eukaryotes, a way to achieve these changes is through protein phosphorylation cycles, involving independent protein kinase and protein phosphatase activities. current evidences show that phosphatases and kinases are also involved in the molecular basis of immune response and in diseases such as diabetes obesity and alzheimer. in protozoan parasites like trypanosoma and leishmania, several kinases and phosphatases have been identified, many of them have been cloned but in several cases their biological role remains undetermined. in this review, the state-of-the art is summarized and the role of phosphatases and kinases in biological phenomena such as remodeling, invasion and pathogenic capacity of protozoan parasites is described. the real chance to use these components of signal transduction pathways as target for chemotherapeutic intervention is also discussed (rev méd chile 2000; 128: 1150-60).

Supersymmetric Models for Neutrino Mass
Romao, Jorge C.
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology , 2007,
Abstract: We review models for neutrino mass, with special emphasis in supersymmetric models where R-parity is broken either explicitly or spontaneously. The simplest unified extension of the MSSM with explicit bilinear R-parity violation provides a predictive scheme for neutrino masses and mixings which can account for the observed atmospheric and solar neutrino anomalies. Despite the smallness of neutrino masses R-parity violation is observable at present and future high-energy colliders, providing an unambiguous cross-check of the model. This model can be shown to be an effective model for the, more theoretically satisfying, spontaneous broken theory. The main difference in this last case is the appearance of a massless particle, the majoron, that can modify the decay modes of the Higgs boson, making it decay invisibly most of the time.
