Vniversitas , 2009,
This paper presents the results of the research project "The Effectiveness of Judicial Contempt Power in Writ of Protection Cases. A Case Study, Bogotá (2007)". Its purpose is to identify and analyze the variables that influence the effectiveness of contempt requests in terms of the satisfaction of fundamental rights. In order to do so, the research intended to have a quantitative approach with exploratory boundaries. The project examined a total of 431 files in criminal, civil, administrative, labor and family courts in Bogota in 2007. The study shows an overview of ineffectiveness of the legal instrument and the need for its reform, together with the development of new tools to promote compliance based on different theoretical perspectives.

Abstract:

During pregnancy, a cellular immunosuppressant status is produced. It is characterized by anti-inflammatory cellular responses that allow embryonic implantation. The reversal of these changes during the postpartum period may result in overt clinical manifestations of otherwise quiescent or latent infections. We present an Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) case after a caesarean section related to the Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome (IRIS) in a Guinean black woman. The patient was treated with large doses of corticosteroids showing a great clinical and radiological improvement.

Revista de biología marina y oceanografía , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-19572010000300019
Abstract: the antibiotic activity of organic extracts from cultures of six species of phytoplankton, synechococcus elongatus, synechocystis sp., amphiprora paludosa, porphyridium cruentum, chaetoceros muelleri and dunaliella tertiolecta was examined. the bacteria used were gram(-) strains, escherichia coli, pseudomonas aeruginosa, and klebsiella pneumoniae, and the gram(+) strains were bacillus subtilis, staphylococcus aureus, and microccocus luteus. all extracts inhibited the growth of b. subtilis and effected the generation of inhibition halos, ranging in diameter from 7.06 to 15.23 mm, for several bacteria species. wide-spectrum antibacterial activity was observed in extracts from s. elongatus, synechocystis sp., a. paludosa, p. cruentum, and c. muelleri. thus, this five phytoplankton species can be used to control bacteria.
EVALUACIóN DEL DESARROLLO DE LA REFRACTARIEDAD PLAQUETARIA EN PACIENTES CON NEOPLASIAS DE ORIGEN HEMATOLóGICO, TRANSFUNDIDOS CON CONCENTRADOS DE PLAQUETAS OBTENIDOS POR EL MéTODO CB~BC EN PRESENCIA Y AUSENCIA DE FILTROS DESLEUCOCITARIOS

Abstract: background: polycystic ovary syndrome (pcos) is the most common endocrine disorder during a women's reproductive years. insulin resistance, obesity and diabetes mellitus have been correlated to pcos. objective: to analyze in pcos patients, the relationship between testosterone, obesity and carbohydrate metabolism disorders. patients and methods: sixty patients, aged 14-32, were diagnosed with pcos following the rotterdam consensus. total testosterone, 2-h oral glucose tolerance test (ogtt), and body mass index (bmi) were performed in all patients. the distribution of each variable and the relationship between testosterone and the other variables were analyzed. results: the mean total testosterone concentration was 2.2 nmol/l. 71.7% of the subjects showed a normal bmi, 21.7% were overweight and 6.6% were obese. total testosterone levels (mean) for each bmi were 2.20 nmol/l for both normal and overweight, and 2.75 nmol/l for obese. in respect to the ogtt, 43.3% had a normal response, with a mean total testosterone value of 2.2 nmol/l and a mean bmi of 22.3 kg/m2, while the remaining 56.7% had an abnormal response, with a mean total testosterone value of 2.19 nmol/l and a bmi of 23.1 kg/m2. while no correlation was observed with normal and overweight patients all obese subjects had an altered ogtt. conclusions: the high prevalence of metabolic disorders reinforces the need for these parameters to be studied in pcos patients. the absence of correlation between total testosterone and the other variables, suggests that in pcos multiple factors are involved and that this syndrome includes different sub-populations of patients that require a revised diagnosis. therefore, classification of pcos patients into subgroups would be clinically advantageous before the initiation of treatment
