O corpo de uma teoria: marcos contemporaneos sobre os atos de fala

Abstract: the english philosopher j. l. austin's studies have contentious interpretations and appropriations, pointing out to the complexity of his texts and his always fertile contributions. one important set of these interpretations are body studies: these discuss the body as speech acts or the subjectivizing bodily process as performative. my interest is to approximate and to contrast three theoretical signs of those body interpretations and to discuss their theoretical consequences to language studies, in particular to the identity studies.

Abstract: this is both a research project and an empirical study that analyzes the question of literacy amongst youngsters. the experience occurred within the context of a strong concern for developing a feminist methodology; for this reason, the two aspects are linked together. the experience has evoluted to a practice and the study prompts reflection on the development of the feminist methodology for teaching young people. the project's participants were students from the public education system in goiania (go) and the central themes were gender relations and sexuality. the project was developed in a feminist ngo. activities included regular workshops and the publication and distribution of a pamphlet. the results showed that boys were less interested in the proposal, but that both girls and boys actively participated in the study: most of those who started the workshops remained until the end.

Abstract: based upon derrida's (1990) and butler's (1997; 1998; 1999) interpretations of austin's (1976) speech acts studies, this article examines theoretical connections with performativity, body and identities. a radical performative view of language submit the body to examination as a basic principle of identity practices analysis. repeated speech acts within an unyielding normative frame constitute identities - ritual acts of a body that speech. specially gender identities are important examples to understanding the linguistic aspects of body regulations.

Abstract: a society doesn't yield a only way to see reality. divided between antagonistic interests of unequal groups, a society yield discourses in contrast and opposites. however there are some discourses that surpass yours antagonistic in your age, reproducing governing groups interests: the hegemoniacal groups. the antagonistic opponent of these governing groups are strongly submit to regulations and render void of power. aware of these discoursive game of power, feminist discourse proliferate yours ideas about gender trouble, supporting a plural, fair and reciprocal society, although it don't go in on a standard interpretation of discourses types. transas do corpo group, brazilian feminist ngo, try to make apparent more and more the unlikeness of feminist discourse, and promote female voice in public discourse. for that, they recognize to stand in need of create women's text production spaces, in such wise as to found and encourage women's literacy in our context of writing technologies. therefore, transas do corpo groups work out in detail a publishing policy.

Abstract: the aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between fear of falling, balance and physical activity in institutionalized older adults. fifty six subjects aged 65 or older living in nursing homes participated in this study. balance, fear of falling and the occurrence of falls during the last 12 months were assessed as risk factors for falls. the results showed: (i) no significant differences in balance according to gender; (ii) men reported less fear of falling than women; (iii) active elderly subjects showed significantly higher values of balance and less fear of falling compared to non-participants peers; (iv) a positive association was observed between fear of falling and balance, between fear of falling and physical activity and between balance and physical activity. we concluded that gender did not influence balance but negatively affects fear of falling. participation in physical activity programs seems to be associated and to have positive effects on balance and fear of falling.

Abstract: this article is based on an observation of the present and on some questions about the possibilities and limits of the transmission of a set of ideas - principles, values, methodologies, knowledge etc. - over time. feminism, as a political and collective movement, which demands recognition and legitimacy, presumes strategies of permanent formation, and is confronted from time to time, with struggles that are related to its existence in the present and to its continuity in the future. the article aims at questioning concepts about the aging of the generations who gave support to feminist politics during the brazilian re-democratization process in the late 1970s, which constituted itself the heritage of the so called "second wave". our perspective aims to interrogate processes of social change, understood as contingent and also necessary, to a politics of intergenerational transmission.

Abstract: this paper presents the results of a qualitative documentary research which discusses epistemic practices on language by indigenous authors inhabiting brazil. based on indigenous authors, as well as on poststructuralist and decolonialist ones, this paper confronts theirs language concepts, considering the construction of indigenous societies as the other/object, which is part of the hegemonic production of knowledge about language. we make considerations on the process of silencing of the indigenous groups, and also the process of resistance and appropriation of concepts and practices by non-indigenous, as well as the coexistence of concepts such as language, writing and identity. as a conclusion, we point to the urgent need to expand epistemological perspectives in order to deal with the co-existing discursive practices of the indigenous and the non-indigenous.

Abstract: purpose: to characterize the reading ability of children with five years of education according to temporal standards, as well as to compare the reading fluency performance of these children before and after a reading program based on prosody standards. methods: thirty two fourth-grade children participated in this study. they performed reading aloud and picture description tasks in order to verify reading rate, speech rate, text comprehension and the adequacy of prosody variation. afterwards, it was carried out a reading stimulation program with emphasis on prosody, composed of five 15-minute sessions of reading tasks. at the end of the program, children were re-assessed, in order verify their performance after stimulation. results: changes were observed in reading rate, number of words misread, and quality of prosody during the reading task. conclusions: the reading program promoted positive changes in reading fluency measures

Abstract: purpose: to study associations between fat distribution and blood pressure levels and concentrations of lipids and lipoproteins, irrespective of body fat content and physical activity. methods: a sample of 62 subjects of both genders aging 20-45 years-old was used in the study. the adipose tissue distribution was based on the waist-to-hip ratio (whr). body fat content was estimated by the body mass index (bmi), and physical activity was assessed by maximal oxygen uptake (vo2max). partial correlation analyses were used to determine the strength of the associations. results: after correction for bmi there was a significant partial correlation between centripetal adipose tissue distribution and serum triglyceride, ldl-cholesterol levels, and blood pressure. however, controlling for vo2max, there was no significant association between whr and any serum variable and blood pressure. conclusion: the centripetal adipose tissue distribution, independent of body fat content, was related to lipid and lipoprotein plasma concentrations and to blood pressure levels in both sexes. physical activity seems to be an important modifier of this relationship, emphasizing its role in the control of cardiovascular risk factors.
