3-Os diabéticos com HbA1c <= 7 mmol/l apresentaram maior press o e percentagem de relaxamento completo do EEI Introduction: The influence of age, disease duration and HbA1c levels on the lower esophageal sphincter’s motility of diabetic patients is not well known. The aim of this investigation is to understand the dynamics of the IES on type 2 diabetics. Material and methods: A esophageal manometry was performed to 36 diabetics between 39-81 years old. The motility of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) was evaluated. Data are shown as mean±standard error. Results: In the groups (<=60 years old and >60 years old), the basal pressure, percentage of relaxation (%), relaxation duration, the complete (CR), partial (PR) and absent (AR) relaxation of the were similar. Patients with over 10 years of diabetes had higher % 77.1±4.1 than those with 10 years or less 66.3±2.7; P<=7 vs HbA1c <=7 mmol/l, we verified that 23.4±2.03 vs 18.38±1.01; PP<=7 mmol/l. %R 77.6±4.0 vs 68.5±3.4, PR 41.13±9.3 vs 65.81±6.2, AR 3.93±2.1 vs 6.81±3.5 and 6.0±0.4 vs 7.3±0.6 were statistically similar (P>0.05). Conclusion: 1- The age didn’t influence the motility of the IES. 2- The %RLES was higher in patients with over 10 years of diabetes. 3- Diabetics with HbA1c <=7 mmol/l presented higher BP and CRLES

Abstract: Introdu o:Recentes estudos referem que a glicemia basal influencia a atividade motora do esófago. Introduction:Basal glycemia may influence the esophagus’ motor activity. Some authors refuse that possibility. Our objective is to contribute studying these phenomena. Patients and methods:Esophageal body’s motor activity was studied by stationary manometry in 25 type 2 diabetic patients aged between 44 and 81 years old (mean age 58,25 years old) with different fast glycemic levels. We’ve compared the characteristics of esophageal waves between diabetics with glycemia ≤7,0 mmol/l and > 7,0 mmol/l. Data were analyzed by SPSS17 Student t Test. Results:Features of esophageal waves in these 2 groups (glycemia≤7,1 mmol/l/vs glycemia> 7,0 mmol/l): peristaltic waves 84,9 vs 80,1; p>0,05; no transmitted waves 4,5 vs 16,3 p<0,01; retrograde waves 3,5 vs 2,0 p>0,05; simultaneous waves 6,2 vs 1,0 p > 0,05. We verified that wave amplitude (in mmHg), in 3 different channels (P), in these 2 groups (glycemia≤7,1 mmol/l/glycemia>7,0 mmol/l) were P1 - 32,3 vs 31,1 p > 0,05, P2 - 44,8 vs 44,2 p > 0,05; P3 - 49,2 vs 49,8 p > 0,05; mean amplitude 42,2 vs 41,7 p > 0,05. Wave_s velocity was similar between these 2 groups Conclusion:In the studied patients, we saw that the percenta
Detailing the Structure of Liquid THF Based on an EPSR Study  [PDF]

Abstract: The structure of pure liquid tetrahydrofuran (THF) has been investigated via Monte Carlo simulations in the wake of a previous Empirical Potential Structure Refinement (EPSR) study on that liquid (Bowron, D.T.; Finney, J.L.; Soper, A.K. (2006) J. Am. Chem. Soc., 128, 5119). The molecules are allatoms rigid structures and the intermolecular potential used is described for the classical 6-12 Lennard-Jones plus Coulomb in the NPT ensemble at 1 atm and 25°C. THF is a poorly structured liquid. Typical preferred orientation of molecules has been explored and calculations shown different types of molecular pairs exist concurrently in the liquid. The geometry of those pairs was deeply investigated and its influence in the liquid structure discussed. The lack of molecular organization in the liquid is closely related to the existence of that diversity of molecular pairs. Its geometry changes from antiparallel up to T-like depending on the distance between the molecules in the pairs.

Abstract: the aim of this paper was to present a case study proposing a protocol for assessment and rehabilitation of a patient with upper limb intermittent claudication. case description: 50-year-old woman with obstruction of the left brachial artery secondary to catheterization performed 4 months ago. monophasic sound was observed during continuous doppler ultrasound assessment of both the radial and ulnar arteries. during the arm crank test, ischemic pain started at 2 minutes and 30 seconds of cranking, while maximal pain was reached at 9 minutes and 26 seconds. the patient was treated by arm cranking exercises performed three times a week for 8 weeks. after the treatment, arm crank time increased: ischemic pain onset was at 5 minutes and 7 seconds and maximal pain was reached at 18 minutes. the patient reported disappearance of cyanosis and improvement in performance of daily activities. the assessment protocol comprehended both subjective (validated brazilian portuguese version of sf-36 questionnaire) and objective (arm crank) measurements and was well tolerated, besides being able to detect changes in the patient's functional capacity. changes detected at pain onset and at maximal pain may have occurred spontaneously, but it cannot be ruled out that this intervention can be potentially beneficial for individuals with upper limb claudication. the results observed in this case study warrant further studies involving larger sample size.

As várias dimens es da lei do valor

Abstract: This article intends to demonstrate that the law of value can be understood based on three successive versions, through which it becomes progressively more complex. The least complex law is the law of value determined by years worked. The second version is the law of social work distribution (which may also be interpreted as the law of equilibrium in the distribution of social work). Examination of the impact of intrasectorial competition among capitals in the capitalist economy leads to the third version of the law of value, the law of minimization of abstract work time. In this manner, the law of value is a dynamic law which forms the basis for general laws of capitalist economy development. Finally, in the international scene, the law of value is presented as the law of high-profit generation and of the widening of inequality.

O efeito de Coriolis: de pêndulos a moléculas

Abstract: coriolis force is an effect which arises in rotating reference frames such as the earth. this force influences large oceanic motions, atmospheric inertial circles, horizontal and vertical deviations in moving bodies. the foucault's pendulum is another special case about the coriolis force influence on macroscopic processes. this pendulum is an example of how experimental sciences can be essential for philosophical and social changes, since it was crucial to prove the earth's rotation. the coriolis force has an important role also at microscopic level; it couples vibrational and rotational molecular motions and this fact has consequences in spectroscopic and energetic molecular processes. these points are discussed in this paper.
