Properties and characterization of Au3+-adsorption by mycelial waste ofStreptomyces aureofaciences

Abstract: Mycelial waste ofStreptomyces aureofaciences procured from the aureomycin fermentation industry is used as biosorbent for Au3+. The properties of Au3+ adsorption by the mycelial waste are studied. The results indicate that the optimum pH value of Au3+ adsorption is 3.5. The biosorption is a rapid and non-temperature-dependent process. The biosorptive capacity with 45.6 mg/g and efficiency with 91.2% are achieved under the conditions of pH 3.5 and 30° C for 45 min, in which the ratio is 50 mg/g dry weight for the concen trations of initial Au3+ and the mycelial waste. The Au3+ ions adsorbed on the mycelial waste can be eluted. The observation in a transmission electron microscope shows that the Au3+ ions can be reduced to Au particles by the mycelial waste and the Au° can become gold crystals with different forms and sizes. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis further proves that the Au3+ can be reduced to Au° by the mycelial waste.
Adsorption and reduction of palladium (Pd2+) by Bacillus licheniformis R08

Abstract: Preliminary study on the mechanism of Pd2+ biosorption by resting cells of Bacillus licheniformis R08 biomass has been carried out by means of chemical kinetics and AAS, TEM, XRD and FTIR methods. The results showed that at 30°C and pH 3.5, when dry R08 biomass powder (800 mg/L) was mixed with Pd2+ (100 mg/L) for 45 min, the rate constant k of biosorption of Pd2+ attained a maximum of 5.97 × 10 2 min 1 and the half life period of the reaction reached 12 min. The part of Pd2+ adsorbed by R08 biomass was reduced to elemental, cell-bound Pd at the same condition. The cell wall of R08 biomass was the primary location for accumulating Pd2+, and aldoses, i. e. hydrolysate of a part of polysaccharides on the peptidoglycan layer in the acidic medium, serving as the electron donor, in situ reduced the Pd2+ to Pd0.

Abstract: This paper is an English translation of chapter nine of the book "Adams spectral sequence and stable homotopy groups of spheres" by Jinkun Lin (in Chinese)(Sciences Press, Beijing 2007). In this paper, a sequence of new indecomposable families in the stable homotopy groups of spheres such as h_0h_n,h_nb_n,h_0h_nh_m,h_0(h_mb_{n-1}-b_{m-1}h_n) families was detected. The proof of all the detections was stated in this paper in based on several published papers by the author.
Evidence on E-Banking Customer Satisfaction in the China Commercial Bank Sector

Abstract: The goal of the study is to analyze factors of website quality that could influence e-banking customer satisfaction in the Chinese commercial banking industry. Moreover, the paper also tries to explain the relationship between website quality and customer satisfaction, and to find some major variables for keeping high level e-banking customer satisfaction. The data demonstrated that website quality have direct and significant effect to e-banking quality in the Chinese commercial banking industry. Besides this, the authors found that website quality is positively related to e-banking customer satisfaction. Finally, it is observed that efficiency, interactivity, security, information, ease of use and content are key factors to affect customer satisfaction in the e-banking service. After the validation of measurement scales, the hypothesis is contrasted through structural modeling. The authors validate the hypothesis and a measurement model. The paper proposes a model for analyzing empirically the link between website quality and e-banking customer satisfaction in Chinese e-banking industry.

Abstract: Some characteristics of Au3+ biosorption and bioreduction by Bacillus megaterium D01 biomass were reported. The optimum pH value of Au3+ biosorption by strain D01 was 3.0. The biosorption was a rapid process, reaching 95% of the maximal capacity within the first 5 min of contact. Temperature did not affect the biosorption. The biosorptive efficiency(99.1%) and capacity (302.0 mg Au3+/g dry weight biomass) were achieved under the conditions of pH 3.0 and 30 degrees C, both concentration with an initial Au3+/biomass radio of 305 mg/g dry weight for 30 min of the contact. The D01 biomass could reduce Au3+ in the solution to Au0, Au0 on the cells surface and in the contact solution could be crystallized to different forms gold crystals, Au3+ impregnated on SiO2 and alpha-Fe2O3 could be reduced to Au0 by D01 biomass. The results of electrochemical reaction indicated that the strain D01 exhibited a high selectivity for Au3+.
A novel dynamic terminal sliding mode control of uncertain nonlinear systems

Abstract: A new dynamic terminal sliding mode control (DTSMC) technique is proposed for a class of single-input and single-output (SISO) uncertain nonlinear systems. The dynamic terminal sliding mode controller is formulated based on Lyapunov theory such that the existence of the sliding phase of the closed-loop control system can be guaranteed, chattering phenomenon caused by the switching control action can be eliminated, and high precision performance is realized. Moreover, by designing terminal equation, the output tracking error converges to zero in finite time, the reaching phase of DSMC is eliminated and global robustness is obtained. The simulation results for an inverted pendulum are given to demonstrate the properties of the proposed method.
Chattering free adaptive fuzzy terminal sliding mode control for second order nonlinear system

Abstract: A novel fuzzy terminal sliding mode control (FTSMC) scheme is proposed for position tracking of a class of second-order nonlinear uncertain system. In the proposed scheme, we integrate input-output linearization technique to cancel the nonlinearities. By using a function-augmented sliding hyperplane, it is guaranteed that the output tracking error converges to zero in finite time which can be set arbitrarily. The proposed scheme eliminates reaching phase problem, so that the closed-loop system always shows invariance property to parameter uncertainties. Fuzzy logic systems are used to approximate the unknown system functions and switch item. Robust adaptive law is proposed to reduce approximation errors between true nonlinear functions and fuzzy systems, thus chattering phenomenon can be eliminated. Stability of the proposed control scheme is proved and the scheme is applied to an inverted pendulum system. Simulation studies are provided to confirm performance and effectiveness of the proposed control approach.

Abstract: This study is to explore the indications, procedures, effectiveness, and feasibility of nipple-areola sparing mastectomy followed by immediate breast reconstruction. The nipple-areola sparing mastectomy followed by immediate breast reconstruction was performed in 126 patients with breast cancer from June 2005 to October 2011. The cosmetic outcomes of the reconstructed breasts were evaluated according to objective and subjective criteria. Meanwhile, the postoperative complications were observed and the therapeutic efficacies were followed up. All the operations were successful. Six patients experienced mild complications early after surgery and were resolved after symptomatic treatment. Both the subjective and objective evaluation for the aesthetic outcomes yielded a satisfactory rate of 97.62% during the 6-80-month follow-up. No recurrence or metastasis was found in 118 cases. Nipple-areola sparing mastectomy followed by immediate breast reconstruction is a simple and effective option for significantly improving the cosmetic outcomes and quality of life of patients, without serious complications or impact on the comprehensive treatment and long-term effect against breast cancer.
