Research on Feature Extraction for Character Recognition of NaXi Pictograph

Abstract: Character recognition is one of important applications for pattern recognition. Feature extraction is the most important problem in character recognition. In this paper, we have researched on feature extraction for character recognition of NaXi pictograph. The characteristics of NaXi pictograph are firstly analyzed. Four kinds of features, including permeability number, coarse grid, directional line element, and invariant moments, and 6 kinds of computation distances, including Lidean distance, Standardized Euclidean distance, Minkowski metric, Chebychey distance, City distance, and Correlation distance will be applied to classify characters of NaXi pictograph, based on its characteristics. We have built a sample database containing 21000 samples for 2120 NaXi characters. The results of experiments suggest that coarse grid and directional element are more suitable for character recognition of NaXi pictograph, while invariant moments is not advisable for this task.
Feature Dimension Reduction of NaXi Pictographs Characters Recognition based on LDA

Abstract: As a kind of pictographic character, Naxi pictographs character has received little academic attention. Proposing dimension reduction method of Naxi pictographs characters on the basis of LDA (Linear Discriminant Analysis), this paper thus makes an in-depth study of feature dimension reduction, an important issue in the recognition of Naxi pictographs characters. By constructing a recognition sample library involving four features of grid feature, permeability number feature, moment invariant feature, and directional element feature (DEF), 50% of data are selected from sample library as training set and testing set respectively. Two dimension reduction methods of LDA and FA (Factor Analysis) are applied to dimension reduction experiment of features of Naxi pictographs characters. The experiment result proves LDA method to be significantly superior to FA method, as LDA method could still maintain a 99% recognition precision when the dimension is reduced to 10% of the original dimension.

Experimental results demonstrated that the introduction of Schiff-base-boron moieties could suppress the aggregation of molecules 4 in solution and enhance the photoluminescent efficiency in relatively high concentration solution. Abstract: The syntheses of three carbazyl-containing quinacridone derivatives, N,N′-di((N-carbazyl)-n-butyl) quinacridone (DCBQA), N,N′-di((N-carbazyl)-n-hexyl)quinacridone (DCHQA) and N,N′-di((N-carbazyl)-n-octyl)quinacridone (DCOQA), are reported, and the photoluminescent (PL) characteristics are presented. The single crystal X-ray structures of DCBQA, DCHQA and DCOQA are investigated. The crystal of DCBQA is characterized by intermolecular п п interactions between quinacridone cores and carbazole moieties resulting in the formation of DCBQA molecule layer, in which every quinacridone core is surrounded by four carbazole groups. In DCHQA crystal, molecules assemble into two kinds of oriented columns based on intermolecular п п interactions between quinacridone cores. The DCOQA crystal displays intermolecular CH п and hydrogen bonding interactions feature. In DCOQA solid, every quinacridone core is sandwiched by two alkyl chains from two adjacent DCOQA molecules and simultaneously linked together with two other quinacridone cores by hydrogen bonding interactions. The PL spectra of the three compounds in solution exhibit concentration-dependent properties and their PL quantum causes decrease with the increasing concentration.

Size Of Gene Specific Inverted Repeat - Dependent Gene Deletion In Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Abstract: We describe here an approach for rapidly producing scar-free and precise gene deletions in S. cerevisiae with high efficiency. Preparation of the disruption gene cassette in this approach was simply performed by overlap extension-PCR of an invert repeat of a partial or complete sequence of the targeted gene with URA3. Integration of the prepared disruption gene cassette to the designated position of a target gene leads to the formation of a mutagenesis cassette within the yeast genome, which consists of a URA3 gene flanked by the targeted gene and its inverted repeat between two short identical direct repeats. The inherent instability of the inverted sequences in close proximity facilitates the self-excision of the entire mutagenesis cassette deposited in the genome and promotes homologous recombination resulting in a seamless deletion via a single transformation. This rapid assembly circumvents the difficulty during preparation of disruption gene cassettes composed of two inverted repeats of the URA3, which requires the engineering of unique restriction sites for subsequent digestion and T4 DNA ligation in vitro. We further identified that the excision of the entire mutagenesis cassette flanked by two DRs in the transformed S. cerevisiae is dependent on the length of the inverted repeat of which a minimum of 800 bp is required for effective gene deletion. The deletion efficiency improves with the increase of the inverted repeat till 1.2 kb. Finally, the use of gene-specific inverted repeats of target genes enables simultaneous gene deletions. The procedure has the potential for application on other yeast strains to achieve precise and efficient removal of gene sequences.
Spatio-Temporal Variation of PM2.5 Concentrations and Their Relationship with Geographic and Socioeconomic Factors in China

Abstract: The air quality in China, particularly the PM 2.5 (particles less than 2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter) level, has become an increasing public concern because of its relation to health risks. The distribution of PM 2.5 concentrations has a close relationship with multiple geographic and socioeconomic factors, but the lack of reliable data has been the main obstacle to studying this topic. Based on the newly published Annual Average PM 2.5 gridded data, together with land use data, gridded population data and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data, this paper explored the spatial-temporal characteristics of PM 2.5 concentrations and the factors impacting those concentrations in China for the years of 2001–2010. The contributions of urban areas, high population and economic development to PM 2.5 concentrations were analyzed using the Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) model. The results indicated that the spatial pattern of PM 2.5 concentrations in China remained stable during the period 2001–2010; high concentrations of PM 2.5 are mostly found in regions with high populations and rapid urban expansion, including the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region in North China, East China (including the Shandong, Anhui and Jiangsu provinces) and Henan province. Increasing populations, local economic growth and urban expansion are the three main driving forces impacting PM 2.5 concentrations.
Comparison of Physicochemical Characteristics and Anticoagulant Activities of Polysaccharides from Three Sea Cucumbers

Abstract: In order to search for sulfated polysaccharides in different invertebrate connective tissues and to examine their biological activities, we have isolated three types of polysaccharides from the body wall of the three sea cucumbers Holothuria edulis, Apostichopus japonicas and Holothuria nobilis. The physicochemical properties and anticoagulant activities of these polysaccharides were examined and compared. The chemical composition analysis and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis indicate that two types of polysaccharides, sulfated fucan and fucosylated chondroitin sulfate (FuCS), were found in all of the three species and in addition a neutral glycan was observed in H.?edulis. The neutral α-glucan was firstly obtained from sea cucumber. The same type of polysaccharides from different species of sea cucumbers have similar physicochemical properties and anticoagulant activities, but those of different types of glycans are significantly different, possibly due to their different monosaccharide compositions, electric charges and average molecular weights. The FuCSs have stronger anticoagulant activities than the sulfated fucans, although the molecular sizes of the FuCSs are lower than those of the sulfated fucans, whereas the neutral glucan has no activity, as expected from the absence of sulfate. Thus, anticoagulant activities of the different type of polysaccharides are likely to relate to monosaccharide composition and sulfate content. Preliminary analysis suggests that the sulfation patterns of the FuCSs may result in the difference in anticoagulant activities. Our data could help elucidate the structure-activity relationship of the sea cucumber polysaccharides.
