Pondering on the diagnosis and treatment criteria for syndromes of epilepsy in traditional Chinese medicine

Abstract: International League Against Epilepsy announced the new International Classification of Epilepsy in 2001. One of the main objectives of the project is to adopt standard terms to describe seizure phenomena according to the terminological database. The project may profit academic communication and resource integration, and provide evidence for the individual treatment for epilepsy. Treatment based on syndrome differentiation is one of the characteristics of the treatment for epilepsy in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). As far as the individuation on diagnosis and treatment is concerned, TCM and Western medicine present to reach the same goal by different routes gradually for the treatment of epilepsy. But for TCM, the diagnosis and treatment criteria for epilepsy are imperfect and the experts, opinions are not unified, so that the treatment based on syndrome differentiation becomes confused, hence the credit of treatment based on TCM is restricted accordingly. It is necessary to formulate advanced diagnosis and treatment criteria for syndromes of epilepsy in TCM.

Abstract: The land resource in studied area has been divided into four types as the primary industry land, secondary industry land, tertiary industry land and reserved industry land in terms of different industrial land use. The characteristics of each different industrial land are discussed according to the scale, spatial pattern and economic efficiency. The characteristics of industrial land use in Haidian are as follows: First, the land use structure is arranged in ratio from high to low as the primary industry land, tertiary industry land, secondary industry land, and reserved industry land. Second, the spatial pattern of industrial land is well-regulated as circularity. Third, economic efficiency of different industrial land is various. The Gross National Production per area of different land type, from the lowest to the highest level, is the primary industrial land, the tertiary industrial land, the secondary industry land, in turn. The reasons for the lower economic efficiency of the tertiary industrial land than that of the secondary industrial land are that there are many commonweal tertiary industry lands and the secondary industry are mainly the high & new tech industry. Fourth, the economic efficiency of different sectors among different industries is remarkably various.

Abstract: In the title mononuclear complex, [CdCl2(C17H11N3O)], the CdII ion assumes a distorted trigonal–bipyramidal coordination geometry. The pyridone plane is twisted out of the 1,10-phenanthroline mean plane by 43.8 (3)°. In the crystal structure, short intermolecular distances [3.627 (4)–3.671 (4) ] between the centroids of the six- and five-membered Cd-containing rings suggest the existence of π–π interactions, which link the molecules into stacks along the a axis.

Abstract: Based on oil-gas exploration project in MB uplift,it is concluded that identifying faults considers not only faults performance in the seismic horizontal time profile,but also stress field of the basin,strain mechanism and structural style of the project.In order to identifying little faults of the project,author makes use of multi-methods including poststack target process,forward model analysis,horizontal time slice of coherence cube,near-reflect-trace geometry character and arbitray line of 3-D data cube profile analysis,finds more little faults and fulfills the detail faults interpretation.

Abstract: The electromagnetic interaction between Ag nanoparticles on the top of the Si substrate and the incident light has been studied by numerical simulations. It is found that the presence of dielectric layers with different thicknesses leads to the varied resonance wavelength and scattering cross section and consequently the shifted photocurrent response for all wavelengths. These different behaviours are determined by whether the dielectric layer is beyond the domain where the elcetric field of metallic plasmons takes effect, combined with the effect of geometrical optics. It is revealed that for particles of a certain size, an appropriate dielectric thickness is desirable to achieve the best absorption. For a certain thickness of spacer, an appropriate granular size is also desirable. These observations have substantial applications for the optimization of surface plasmon enhanced silicon solar cells.

Abstract: Urban spatial expansion orderly is a complex task due to the tension between the need to develop city and the wish to preserve farmland and open space.This controversy is enhanced especially in a fast urbanization and scarce land resource per capita country like china.In the mid-1990s,American politicians and planners put forward a new urban growth mode "smart growth",which balances development and environmental protection-accommodating urban growth while preserving open space and farmland and other sensitive or critical areas.In this paper,urban growth preferences model and cultivated land depletion model were developed and integrated to analyze the "smart" expansion direction of Taian city. The landscape pattern of city in eight orientations was also analyzed using FRAGSTATS 3.3,and the landscape metrics selected were patch richness,shannon's diversity index,landscape shape index and mean patch size.The results show that: 1) the strongest growth preference of Taian city is in the ENE,where the spatial expansion intensity is 7.58%,and the weakest growth preference is in the NEN, where the intensity is 0.2% during the period from 1996 to 2004;2) the most depletion of cultivated land would occur when Taian city expands toward the ESE,where the quality weighting coefficient of cultivated land is 0.49;and when Taian city expands toward the NNW,where the quality weighting coefficient is 0.007, the depletion of cultivated land would be the least;3) the urban growth preferences are in conformity with the principle of the minimum cultivated land depletion;4) the diversity of landscape components is increasing with the enhancement of the urban growth preference,but landscape geometrical complexity and ecological fragmentation have different trends of change under different urban development modes.According to the principle of the minimum cultivated land depletion and the suitability of urban land use,we suggested that the urban growth preference should transfer from ENE to WSW and SES,and should promote city development compactly.This method provides a possible means to balance urban growth and farmland protection.
Myeloperoxidase Polymorphism, Menopausal Status, and Breast Cancer Risk: An Update Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a metabolic/oxidative lysosomal enzyme secreted by reactive neutrophils at the sites of inflamed organs and tissues during phagocytosis. MPO has been either directly or indirectly linked to neoplasia, which is a well-established risk factor for many types of cancer. A large number of studies have reported the role of MPO G-463A polymorphism regarding breast-cancer risk. However, the published findings are inconsistent. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to determine more precise estimations for the relationship. Eligible studies were identified by searching several electronic databases for relevant reports published before June 2012. According to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, a total of five eligible studies were included in the pooled analyses. When the five eligible studies concerning MPO G-463A polymorphism were pooled into this meta-analysis, there was no evidence found for a significant association between MPO G-463A polymorphism and breast-cancer risk in any genetic model. We also categorized by ethnicity (Caucasian or Asian) for subgroup analysis; according to this subgroup analysis, we found no significant association between MPO G-463A polymorphism and breast-cancer risk in any genetic model. However, in the stratified analysis for the premenopausal group, women carrying the AA genotype were found to have a significantly reduced risk (OR = 0.56, 95% CI 0.34–0.94, p = 0.027). Under the recessive model, there was a significant association between MPO G-463A polymorphism and breast-cancer risk (OR = 0.57, 95% CI 0.34–0.93, p = 0.025). We conclude that MPO-G463A polymorphism might not be a good predictor of breast-cancer risk, though menopausal status modified women’s risk of developing breast cancer.

The prognostic value of left ventricular systolic function measured by tissue Doppler imaging in septic shock

Abstract: Patients with septic shock in a medical intensive care unit were studied with transthoracic echocardiography with TDI within 24 hours after the onset of septic shock. Baseline clinical, laboratory, and echocardiographic variables were prospectively collected. Independent predictors of 90-day mortality were analyzed with the Cox regression model.During a 20-month period, 61 patients were enrolled in the study. The 90-day mortality rate was 39%; the mean APACHE IV score was 84 (68 to 97). Compared with survivors, nonsurvivors exhibited significantly higher peak systolic velocity measured at the mitral annulus (Sa) (11.0 (9.1 to 12.5) versus 7.8 (5.5 to 9.0) cm/sec; P < 0.0001), lower PaO2/FiO2 (123 (83 to 187) versus 186 (142 to 269) mm Hg; P = 0.002], higher heart rate (120 (90 to 140) versus 103 (90 to 114) beats/min; P = 0.004], and ahigher dose of norepinephrine (0.6 (0.2 to 1.0) versus 0.3 (0.2 to 0.5) μg/kg/min; P = 0.007]. In the multivariate analysis, Sa > 9 cm/sec (hazard ratio (HR), 5.559; 95% confidence interval (CI), 2.160 to 14.305; P < 0.0001), dose of norepinephrine (HR, 1.964; 95% CI, 1.338 to 2.883; P = 0.001), and PaO2/FiO2 (HR, 0.992; 95% CI, 0.984 to 0.999; P = 0.031) remain independent predictors of 90-day mortality in septic-shock patients.Our study demonstrated that LV systolic function as determined by TDI, in particular, Sa, might be associated with mortality in patients with septic shock.Although left ventricular (LV) depression in sepsis was first reported decades ago [1], it has not been well recognized until the recent widespread use of echocardiography in the intensive care unit (ICU) [2]. A variety of echocardiographic parameters have been developed to assess LV function [3].
