Study on the Electromagnetic Interference of CFRC Composites by Reflectivity

Abstract: The influence of dispersion of carbon fibers in carbon-fiber-reinforced cement-based composites (CFRC) on the mechanical properties of the composites was discussed. The microstructure of the fracture surface of the CFRC samples was observed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The electromagnetic interference (EMI) was evaluated indirectly by reflectivity in the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) testing system. The reflectivity of the electromagnetic radiation by the composites was measured in the frequency range of 8.0-18.2 GHz for different carbon fiber contents of 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8%, and 1.0% (in wt pct), respectively. The results showed that the reflectivity decreased with the growing fiber content till the percentage of 0.6%.The minimum reflectivity was -23 dB, far less than -10 dB, and the composites were strong wave absorbers.After this percentage, the curve increased abruptly as the fiber content proceeded. The electromagnetic waves were gradually reflected. When the fiber content reached 1.0% finally, the maximum reflectivity -7.5 dB appeared and there was stronger reflection. The shielding mechanism includes mainly reflection, absorption,and multiple reflections.
Functional Redundancy of Two Pax-Like Proteins in Transcriptional Activation of Cyst Wall Protein Genes in Giardia lamblia

Abstract: The protozoan Giardia lamblia differentiates from a pathogenic trophozoite into an infectious cyst to survive outside of the host. During encystation, genes encoding cyst wall proteins (CWPs) are coordinately induced. Pax family transcription factors are involved in a variety of developmental processes in animals. Nine Pax proteins have been found to play an important role in tissue and organ development in humans. To understand the progression from primitive to more complex eukaryotic cells, we tried to identify putative pax genes in the G. lamblia genome and found two genes, pax1 and pax2, with limited similarity. We found that Pax1 may transactivate the encystation-induced cwp genes and interact with AT-rich initiatior elements that are essential for promoter activity and transcription start site selection. In this study, we further characterized Pax2 and found that, like Pax1, Pax2 was present in Giardia nuclei and it may specifically bind to the AT-rich initiator elements of the encystation-induced cwp1-3 and myb2 genes. Interestingly, overexpression of Pax2 increased the cwp1-3 and myb2 gene expression and cyst formation. Deletion of the C-terminal paired domain or mutation of the basic amino acids of the paired domain resulted in a decrease of nuclear localization, DNA-binding activity, and transactivation activity of Pax2. These results are similar to those found in the previous Pax1 study. In addition, the profiles of gene expression in the Pax2 and Pax1 overexpressing cells significantly overlap in the same direction and ERK1 associated complexes may phosphorylate Pax2 and Pax1, suggesting that Pax2 and Pax1 may be downstream components of a MAPK/ERK1 signaling pathway. Our results reveal functional redundancy between Pax2 and Pax1 in up-regulation of the key encystation-induced genes. These results illustrate functional redundancy of a gene family can occur in order to increase maintenance of important gene function in the protozoan organism G. lamblia.

Abstract: 采用流变相法,以FeSO4.7H2O∶KBH4=1∶2(摩尔比)为固相介质,0.06 g/mL CMC(羧甲基纤维素)水溶液为液相介质,固液比1∶2,反应2 h制备出包覆型纳米零价铁;采用XRD、TEM等手段对合成的纳米零价铁进行表征。探讨不同反应条件对包覆型纳米铁去除活性艳蓝的影响。实验结果表明,初始活性艳蓝(浓度100 mg/L)pH为5,包覆型纳米铁的投加量为6 g/L,反应时间为30 min时,活性艳蓝的去除率可达96%。通过研究机理,其吸附过程符合二级吸附动力学,降解过程符合一级反应动力学。

Abstract: Education is one of the most important elements in our lives because it is a direct way to broaden our knowledge. In order to enhance academic learning experience, an increasing number of instructors are changing their pedagogies to make their students socially active in class participation. In this article, the author describes how the development and implementation of the technology-supported learning environment will be beneficial in student and instructor engagement and the overall learning motivation. The author first provides detailed implementation of the technology-supported learning environment. Next, she explains how to utilize such environment to increase in-class participation and to support collaborative learning. She then examines students’ overall learning and feedback, and analyzes the costs and benefits of this pedagogy. Finally, she concludes that this environment can promote greater classroom engagement and support collaborative learning.

Abstract: The single-point potential test has two merits. One is that in needs a short test time. Another is that the quantity of relief-gas is small. But it will cause a great error in evaluating a low permeability gas well productivity because the gas well will cost a long time to reach a pseudo steady state. To resolve the problem, based on backpressure test theory and superposition principle, this paper designed a new test method, named Backpressure Isochronal Test. It can accurately evlauate the productivity of gas wells with low permeability in a short test time which approximately equals to the time the single-point method needs. The analysis and contrast of analog wells reveal that the result is reliable.

Abstract: in this essay, i explore a metaphor in geometry for the debate between the unity and the disunity of science, namely, the possibility of putting a global coordinate system (or a chart) on a manifold. i explain why the former is a good metaphor that shows what it means (and takes in principle) for science to be unified. i then go through some of the existing literature on the unity/disunity debate and show how the metaphor sheds light on some of the views and arguments.

Abstract: The right to defense within civil rights reflects the principle of fairness. It also provides a system to prevent the abuse of rights. In Administrative Law, the counterparty’s right to defense involves in the civil right to resist. The model of using a right to restrict the power conducts a feasibility of the existence and development of the right to resist. The improvement of this system is the ultimate way to achieve the right to resist.
