The Carbonation Behaviors of Limestone Particle in Oxygen-Fuel Circulating Fluidized Bed O2/CO2 Flue Gas  [PDF]

Abstract: Limestone powder is still applied as SO2 sorbent in emerging oxygen-fuel circulating fluidized bed boiler, but its carbonation in O2/CO2 flue gas is an unclear problem. For a better understanding of carbonation behaviors, the tube furnace heating system was built for simulating circulating fluidized bed boiler flue gas by regulating the supply of O, CO2, N2, SO2 and H2O, and Carbonation reaction was tested. Thermal gravimetric analysis and scanning electron microscopy were used. It was found that carbonation is closely related to temperature, CO2 concentration, impurities, water vapor, and cycle times; high temperature can promote carbonation process; high concentration of CO2 can inhibit the chemical reaction stage speed of carbonation process, but it has little effect on the final conversion rate; water vapor can increase the final conversion rate of carbonation; the cycle times will reduce the activity of carbonation. The presence of carbonation turns the traditional boiler flue gas indirect desulfurization model into indirect desulfurization mechanism which does not have a negative impact on SO2 removal efficiency.
Semantic Part Segmentation using Compositional Model combining Shape and Appearance

Abstract: In this paper, we study the problem of semantic part segmentation for animals. This is more challenging than standard object detection, object segmentation and pose estimation tasks because semantic parts of animals often have similar appearance and highly varying shapes. To tackle these challenges, we build a mixture of compositional models to represent the object boundary and the boundaries of semantic parts. And we incorporate edge, appearance, and semantic part cues into the compositional model. Given part-level segmentation annotation, we develop a novel algorithm to learn a mixture of compositional models under various poses and viewpoints for certain animal classes. Furthermore, a linear complexity algorithm is offered for efficient inference of the compositional model using dynamic programming. We evaluate our method for horse and cow using a newly annotated dataset on Pascal VOC 2010 which has pixelwise part labels. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.
A Review of Inventory Investment: The Macro and Micro Perspective  [PDF]

Abstract: This article combed the domestic and foreign researches on inventory investment since 1990. We find that researches mainly focus on the macro level of the relationship between inventory investment and business cycle, the effects of inflation or interest rates on inventory adjustment. While in the micro enterprise level, they study the determiners of inventory investment, including financing constraints, size and location. Besides, the role of inventory investment behavior on corporate performance has not yet reached a consensus. Based on the analysis of the existing literatures, we put forward the possible directions for future research in the field of inventory in-vestment, combining with China’s specific conditions.
Diurnal variation of summer precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau: a cloud-resolving simulation

Abstract: In this study, the Weather Research and Forecasting model was used to simulate the diurnal variation in summer precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) at a cloud-resolving scale. Compared with the TRMM, precipitation data shows that the model can well simulate the diurnal rainfall cycle with an overall late-afternoon maximum precipitation in the central TP and a nighttime maximum in the southern edge. The simulated diurnal variations in regional circulation and thermodynamics are in good correspondence with the precipitation diurnal cycles in the central and southern edge of TP, respectively. A possible mechanism responsible for the nocturnal precipitation maximum in the southern edge has been proposed, indicating the importance of the TP in regulating the regional circulation and precipitation.
Synthesis and self-assembly of amphiphilic ABA type triblock copolymer with well-defined glycopolymer segments

Abstract: A novel amphiphilic ABA type triblock copolymer with well-defined glycopolymer segments was successfully synthesized via the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) technique, using a bromo-terminated difunctional polysulfone as macroinitiator. The difunctional polysulfone macroinitiator was prepared by esterifying the phenolic end groups of polysulfone to α-haloesters. This macroinitiator was then used to initiate the polymerization of a glucose-carrying monomer, 3-O-methacryloyl-1,2:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-D-glucofuranose (MAIpG), resulting an ABA type triblock copolymer. After acidolysis treatment, the isopropylidenyl groups of the protected sugar residues were removed, thus the amphiphilic ABA type triblock copolymer with well-defined glycopolymer segments was obtained. The polymers obtained were identified by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, GPC, and TGA. The self-assembly behavior of the amphiphilic glycopolymer in selective solvent (e.g. DMF/H2O) system was also preliminarily explored. The resultant amphiphilic glycopolymer shows potential applications in the fields of controlled release and delivery of drugs, micro-reactors, nano-materials, medical devices, and so on.

Initial Alignment for SINS based on Low-cost IMU

Abstract: The initial alignment is vital to the strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS). In this work, an efficient initial alignment method for SINS based on a six-degree of freedom inertial measurements unit (IMU) is proposed. The three dimensional linear accelerations and angular rates are acquired from a data acquisition board which contains a low-cost IMU. Preprocess the gyro data and modeling the SINS error model for initial alignment. Analysis the observability of this SINS error model and then simplify the model based on the observability. A kalman filter is conducted to estimate the misalignment angle. The results show that the initial alignment method proposed in this paper is advisable for a SINS based on low-cost IMU on a stationary base.
Discovering Internal Representations from Object-CNNs Using Population Encoding

Abstract: In this paper, we provide a method for understanding the internal representations of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) trained on objects. We hypothesize that the information is distributed across multiple neuronal responses and propose a simple clustering technique to extract this information, which we call \emph{population encoding}. The population encoding technique looks into the entrails of an object-CNN at multiple layers of the network and shows the implicit presence of mid-level object part semantics distributed in the neuronal responses. Our qualitative visualizations show that population encoding can extract mid-level image patches that are visually tighter than the patches that produce high single-filter activations. Moreover, our comprehensive quantitative experiments using the object key point annotations from the PASCAL3D+ dataset corroborate the visualizations by demonstrating the superiority of population encoding over single-filter detectors, in the task of object-part detection. We also perform some preliminary experiments where we uncover the compositional relations between the adjacent layers using the parts detected by population encoding clusters. Finally, based on the insights gained from this work, we point to various new directions which will enable us to have a better understanding of the CNN's internal representations.

Abstract: The application effect of the hyperspectral imaging system heavily relies on the signal to noise ratio. According to design features of hyperspectral imaging system and source of various noises, various noise models are established like time-domain noise, spatial-domain noise, spatial interference, spectrum superposition and so on and the influence and restriction of various noises on hyperspectral imaging system are analyzed in detail on this basis. The conclusion of this paper plays an important role in promoting the practicability of the hyperspectral imaging system in China.
