A Predator-Prey Gompertz Model with Time Delay and Impulsive Perturbations on the Prey

Abstract: We introduce and study a Gompertz model with time delay and impulsive perturbations on the prey. By using the discrete dynamical system determined by the stroboscopic map, we obtain the sufficient conditions for the existence and global attractivity of the “predator-extinction” periodic solution. With the theory on the delay functional and impulsive differential equation, we obtain the appropriate condition for the permanence of the system.
PROTS-RF: A Robust Model for Predicting Mutation-Induced Protein Stability Changes

Abstract: The ability to improve protein thermostability via protein engineering is of great scientific interest and also has significant practical value. In this report we present PROTS-RF, a robust model based on the Random Forest algorithm capable of predicting thermostability changes induced by not only single-, but also double- or multiple-point mutations. The model is built using 41 features including evolutionary information, secondary structure, solvent accessibility and a set of fragment-based features. It achieves accuracies of 0.799,0.782, 0.787, and areas under receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of 0.873, 0.868 and 0.862 for single-, double- and multiple- point mutation datasets, respectively. Contrary to previous suggestions, our results clearly demonstrate that a robust predictive model trained for predicting single point mutation induced thermostability changes can be capable of predicting double and multiple point mutations. It also shows high levels of robustness in the tests using hypothetical reverse mutations. We demonstrate that testing datasets created based on physical principles can be highly useful for testing the robustness of predictive models.

By establishing a proper variational setting, three existence results are obtained. Finally, three examples are presented to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of our results.

Abstract: The leukaemia cells HL60, incubated in 10 mM/ml ALA (5-aminolevulinic) for 4 hours, were carried an experimental research with fluorescent probes in photodynamic therapy (PDT) based on ALA by using PDT reaction room (The average fluence rate of the 412 nm source was 5 mW/cm2). Cells viability were determined using a Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay, and PpIX Photobleaching of subcellular distributed sites of HL60 cells in vitro were investigated by fluorescence spectra acquired during treatment. The results showed that the fluorescence intensity of mitochondria, lysosomes, endoplasmic reticulum had decreased by 81.5%, 52.3% and 21.0%, respectively, compared with their initial values after a 45-minute light treatment. The rate of PpIX photobleaching in mitochondria was significantly higher than others. Addi-tionally, the change of the activity of HL60 cells was basically characterized by the change fluorescence intensity in mitochondria, which suggest that mitochondria is one of main therapeutic targets of photodynamic therapy.

The application of some MVS operations (each dimension of which corresponds to a capability indicator) in system capability analysis and design, including capability indicator requirement analysis, effectiveness analysis, sensibility analysis, fuzzy analysis, stability analysis, capability optimization design, etc., is discussed in the second paper of this series of papers. And some MVS-based models and algorithms for capability analysis and design are put forward. Finally, an example of capability analysis and optimization design is given for explaining the usages of related models and algorithms.

Abstract:

Monotonic vector space (MVS), as a novel model in which there exist some monotonic mappings, is proposed. MVS model is an abstract of many practical problems (such as image processing, system capability engineering, etc.) and includes many useful important operations. This paper, as the first one of series papers, discusses the MVS framework, relative important concepts and important operations including partition, synthesis, screening, sampling, etc. And algorithms for these operations are the focus of this paper. The application of these operations in system capability engineering will be dealt with in the second part of this series of papers.

Abstract: To enhance the identification capacity of the skin-hearing aid for voice signals, the four-channel skin-hearing aid based on Morse encoding method is proposed in this article, which can overcome many disadvantages such as low identification rate and bad anti-jamming capability existing in analog variable pressure skin-hearing aid. By processing voices, seeking the corresponding Morse code of voice signals, establishing the skin response voltage sequence by the Morse encoding, stimulating the skins by this voltage sequence, and making the skins to more clearly feel different signals of voice, the identification rate of skin hearing can be enhanced obviously.
