Phosphorus utilization and microbial community in response to lead/iron addition to a waterlogged soil

Abstract: Constructed wetlands have emerged as a viable option for helping to solve a wide range of water quality problems. However, heavy metals adsorbed by substrates would decrease the growth of plants, impair the functions of wetlands and eventually result in a failure of contaminant removal. Typha latifolia L., tolerant to heavy metals, has been widely used for phytoremediation of Pb/Zn mine tailings under waterlogged conditions. This study examined effects of iron as ferrous sulfate (100 and 500 mg/kg) and lead as lead nitrate (0, 100, 500 and 1000 mg/kg) on phosphorus utilization and microbial community structure in a constructed wetland. Wetland plants (T. latifolia) were grown for 8 weeks in rhizobags filled with a paddy soil under waterlogged conditions. The results showed that both the amount of iron plaque on the roots and phosphorus adsorbed on the plaque decreased with the amount of lead addition. When the ratio of added iron to lead was 1:1, phosphorus utilized by plants was the maximum. Total amount of phospholipids fatty acids (PLFAs) was 23%–59% higher in the rhizosphere soil than in bulk soil. The relative abundance of Gram-negative bacteria, aerobic bacteria, and methane oxidizing bacteria was also higher in the rhizosphere soil than in bulk soil, but opposite was observed for other bacteria and fungi. Based on cluster analysis, microbial communities were mostly controlled by the addition of ferrous sulfate and lead nitrate in rhizosphere and bulk soil, respectively.

Abstract: Based upon the mathematical formulas of Lattice gauge theory and non-commutative geometry differential calculus, we developed an approach of generalized gauge theory on a product of the spacetime lattice and the two discrete points(or a $Z_2$ discrete group). We introduce a differentiation for non-nearest-neighbour points and find that this differentiation may lead to the introduction of Wilson term in the free fermion Lagrangian on lattice. The Wilson-Yukawa chiral model on lattice is constructed by the generalized gauge theory and a toy model and Smit-Swift model are studied.
Standard Model With Higgs As Gauge Field On Fourth Homotopy Group

Abstract: Based upon a first principle, the generalized gauge principle, we construct a general model with $G_L\times G'_R \times Z_2$ gauge symmetry, where $Z_2=\pi_4(G_L)$ is the fourth homotopy group of the gauge group $G_L$, by means of the non-commutative differential geometry and reformulate the Weinberg-Salam model and the standard model with the Higgs field being a gauge field on the fourth homotopy group of their gauge groups. We show that in this approach not only the Higgs field is automatically introduced on the equal footing with ordinary Yang-Mills gauge potentials and there are no extra constraints among the parameters at the tree level but also it most importantly is stable against quantum correlation.

This article is a brief description of some innovative approaches presented in Chapter 6 of a book entitled “Solar Cell Research Progress”. One approach is a novel superficial modification technique which offers a new opportunity to fabricate low cost solar cells by using silicon materials with the lowest possible purity. The other approach is a V-shaped module (VSM) technique which enables an obvious increase of the efficiencies for silicon solar cells.

Breeding of high lipid producing strain of Geotrichum robustum by ion beam implantation

Abstract: to obtain an industrial strain with high lipid yield, the wild strain g0 of geotrichum robustum was mutated by means of nitrogen ions implantation. mutagenic effects of strain g0 by low energy n+ ion implantation were studied. the experimental results indicated that the survival rate curve took a ?saddle? shape, and the positive mutation rate was increased to 22.00% at the dose of nitrogen ions 2.0 x 1015 ions/cm2 when the survival rate was 28.60%. by repeated screening, a high lipid producing strain g9 was obtained. the biomass, lipid content and lipid yield of the mutant can reach 40.25 g/l, 71.14% and 28.63 g/l after cultured in a 5l fermenter for 8 days, increasing by 52.81%, 68.82% and 157.93% to those of wild strain, respectively. analysis results on fatty acids composition and relative content by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry showed that the lipid in strain g9 was mainly composed of 16-carbon and 18-carbon fatty acids, including 37.360% oleic acid, 23.631% palmitic acid, 4.458% linoleic acid and 26.465% stearic acid. such compositional features were quite similar to plant oil. geotrichum robustum strain g9 may be an ideal high lipid producing strain for biodiesel production.

Abstract: The combined pollution of heavy metal Pb2+ and bensulfuron-methyl (BSM), originating from chemical herbicides, in agro- ecological environments has become commonplace in southern China. Abstract: A simple two-step aqueous polymerization method was introduced to synthesize a polyacrylate/polyethylene glycol (PAC/PEG) interpenetrating network (IPN) hydrogel. On the basis of the effects of the ratio of PAC to PEG, neutralization degree, heavy-metal ion concentration, and temperature on the adsorption behavior of PAC/PEG IPN hydrogel toward Ni2 +, Cr3 + and Cd2 +, the preparation conditions were optimized. In our system, the greatest amount of Ni2 +, Cr3 + and Cd2 + adsorbed were 102.34, 49.38 and 33.41 mg g- 1, respectively. The adsorption abilities of a dried PAC/PEG composite and a swollen PAC/PEG IPN hydrogel were compared. It was found that the efficiency of removing metal ions using the swollen hydrogel was greater than that using the dried composite. The adsorption mechanism and model are also discussed.
Synthesis, characterization and properties of polyaniline/expanded vermiculite intercalated nanocomposite

Abstract: The synthesis characterization and conductivities of polyaniline/expanded vermiculite intercalated nanocomposite are presented in this paper. The conductive emeraldine salt form of polyaniline is inserted into the interlayer of expanded vermiculite to produce the nanocomposite with high conductivity. The structures and properties are characterized by transmission electron microscopy x-ray diffraction spectroscopy fourier transform infrared spectroscopy thermogravimetry analysis and by the measurements of conductivity and stability. The results show that an intercalated nanocomposite with high conductivity and stability is obtained. The synthesis conditions are optimized to obtain the highest conductivity which is 6.80 S cm 1.
CT Image De-noising Model Based on Independent Component Analysis and Curvelet Transform

Abstract: CT image De-noising is an important research topic both in image processing and biomedical engineering. Independent component analysis (ICA) is a statistical technique where the goal is to represent a set of random variables as a linear transformation of statistically independent component variables. The curvelet transform as a multiscale transform has directional parameters occurs at all scales, locations, and orientations. This paper proposes a new model for CT medical image de-noising, which is using independent component analysis and curvelet transform. Firstly, a random matrix was produce to separate the CT image into a separated image for estimate. Then curvelet transform was applied to optimize the coefficients. At last, the coefficients were selected for image reconstruction by inverse of the curvelet transform. By contrast, this approach could remove more noises and reserve more details, and the efficiency of our approach is better than other traditional de-noising approaches.
