Polarization mode dispersion compensation in a novel dual polarization differential quadrature phase shift keying system

Abstract: A novel dual polarization differential quadrature phase shift keying (DP-DQPSK) system is proposed, whose receiver is the same as the single polarization DQPSK system, while it does not need polarization de-multiplexing like the conventional polarization division multiplexing QPSK (PDM-QPSK). Polarization mode dispersion (PMD) is mainly considered and PMD compensation for the DP-DQPSK system is studied. As the feedback signal for PMD compensation, the degree of polarization of the signals is discussed in detail. The results show that PMD tolerance can be improved by 89 ps within 1 dB optical signal noise ratio penalty after PMD compensation for the DP-DQPSK system.
Biomechanical and morphological measurement and analysis of roentgenograph for knee osteoarthritis patients

Abstract: Objective: To study the etiological factors of knee osteoarthritis and to provide the anatomical basis of corrective therapy for knee joint deformity by comparing the biomechanical differences of the knee joints between the osteoarthritis patients and the normal people. Methods: The sexes, ages, heights, weights, painful characters and accompanied symptoms were recorded, and the femoral angle, tibial angle, femorotibial angle, joint space angle, and the height and width of condylus medialis and lateralis were measured for 29 selected knee osteoarthritis patients. And the biomechanical data of the patients were compared with those of the 19 normal people. Results: The femoral angle of the osteoarthritis patients was smaller and the joint space angle was greater statistically than that of the normal people, and the ratios of height and width of condylus medialis and condylus lateralis of the osteoarthritis patients were greater than those of the normal people. Conclusion: In the patients, the gravity line of the lower limb inclines to the condylus medialis, so the condylus medialis is more vulnerable. And the configuration of the condylus of the patients, which is narrower and longer, is different from that of the normal people. It may be one of the etiological factors of knee osteoarthritis.

Abstract: The insecticidal strain 173 was isolated from marine source and its activity was explored by the bioassay of brine shrimp and Helicoverpa armigera . Based on morphological, physiological and molecular properties, the insecticidal strain 173 was identified as Streptomycetes avermitilis , which is the best insecticidal microorganism found in the terrestrial environment. The taxonomy of the strain 173, insecticidal spectrum and properties of the corresponding insecticidal antibiotics are reported.

Abstract: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is rare in most countries (incidence below 1/100,000) [1]. However, it has a high incidence in Southeast Asia, especially in the Guangdong province of southern China. This high-risk region is inhabited by several dialect groups (Cantonese, Hakka, and Chiu Chau), and each group has been shown to exhibit variable incidence of NPC. Specifically, the Cantonese men and women from the Xijiang river area suffer the highest rates (10/100,000) that are twice those of their counterparts in Chiu Chau and trice those of the Hakka dialect groups [2].The distinct geographical and ethnic distribution of NPC seems to be associated with certain environmental and hereditary factors. Firstly, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection is widely recognized as the risk factor of NPC because of the detection EBV genomes in NPC tumor cells and elevated serum titers of IgA and IgG antibodies to EBV early and viral capsid antigens in NPC patients [3-5]. Secondly, epidemiological studies conducted in diverse populations have confirmed that frequent exposure to high levels of nitrosamine from preserved food such as salted fish, plum vegetable, preserved prune, fermented beans and eggs are etiological factors of NPC. Other environmental factors include communal kitchens or kitchen ranges without chimney, tobacco smoking, occupational exposures to wood dust and formaldehyde. In addition, the epidemiological data suggest that higher disease risk is associated with an earlier age at exposure [6-12].Although many environment factors were associated with NPC, only a small proportion of the high-risk population develops NPC, indicating that there may be important individual genetic components in the etiology. There is accumulating evidence of association between genetic polymorphism of metabolic enzymes and individual variation in cancer susceptibility. Abstract: The specific heat and resistance of CeCu_{6-x}M_x (M=Ni,Zn) have been studied in the concentration range where they still retain the orthorhombic structure. The coefficient c of -ln T term in resistance R=R_0+bT-cln T, as well as the γ, have been found to vary in opposite directions with increasing x for Ni and Zn substitutions. The physical mechanism is discussed.
The (e, 2e) triple differential cross sections of Cu+ (3p) in coplanar asymmetric geometry

Abstract: The three-body distorted-wave Born approximation has been used to calculate the (e, 2e) triple differential cross sections (TDCSs) of Cu+ (3p) in different kinematical variables in coplanar asymmetric geometry. The angles 4circ, 10circ and 20circ were selected as the scattering electron angles. Under high incident energy ( ge 500 eV) and high asymmetric detection energy, the binary peaks showed abnormal splits. Such abnormal splits have not been observed in atomic target and outer valence orbitals of ionic target, which indicates that an (e, 2e) process for inner valence orbitals of ionic target would be more complicated than outer valence orbitals. Furthermore, some pronounced peaks appeared at certain ejected angles. We considered that these pronounced peaks are probably related to one kind of double-binary collision.
Factors affecting the performance of a multi-tone carrier source based re-circulating frequency shifter

Abstract: Generation of single-sideband (SSB) multi-carrier source based on a recirculating frequency shifter (RFS) is analysed theoretically and realized experimentally. The effects of affecting factors originating from the deviation from the right operation bias voltage and unbalanced amplitude, and the phase of the radio frequency (RF) drive signals on the performance of the multi-tone source are discussed in detail. Based on the theoretical analysis, high-quality 50-tone output is successfully realized. Experiments under some implementation imperfections are also carried out. The imperfect and low-quality output results are in good agreement with theoretical analysis.
Semiconductor optical amplifier used as regenerator for degraded differential phase-shift keying signals

Abstract: Phase and amplitude regeneration are necessary for degraded differential phase-shift keying communication systems. This paper proposes a regenerator based on semiconductor optical amplifier for differential phase-shift keying signals. The key regeneration mechanism is theoretically analysed. The effectiveness of semiconductor optical amplifier based regenerator is demonstrated by comparing the bit error rate and eye diagrams before and after regeneration for 40-Gbit/s differential phase-shift keying 1080-km transmission systems. The results show that regeneration effects are very well. Bit error rate is less than 10-12 with the regenerator.
High-speed polarization mode dispersion compensation in a 43-Gb/s RZ-DQPSK transmission system over 1200 km of standard single-mode fibre

Abstract: This paper reports that the designed optical polarization mode dispersion compensator shows a good performance under the real-time variation of differential group delay, state of polarization and principal state of polarization in a (40 × 43)-Gb/s dense-wavelength-multiplexing, 1200-km enhanced return-to-zero differential-quadrature-phase-shift-keying (RZ-DQPSK) system. The polarization mode dispersion tolerance of the system is improved by 26 ps using the optical polarization mode dispersion compensator. The short and long time stabilities are tested with the bit error ratio recorded.vspace1mm
