Model Transformation Using a Simplified Metamodel  [PDF]

Abstract: Model Driven Engineering (MDE) is a model-centric software development approach aims at improving the quality and productivity of software development processes. While some progresses in MDE have been made, there are still many challenges in realizing the full benefits of model driven engineering. These challenges include incompleteness in existing modeling notations, inadequate in tools support, and the lack of effective model transformation mechanism. This paper provides a solution to build a template-based model transformation framework using a simplified metamode called Hierarchical Relational Metamodel (HRM). This framework supports MDE while providing the benefits of readability and rigorousness of meta-model definitions and transformation definitions.

Abstract: Facial-width-to-height ratio (fWHR) is a kind of facial feature that based on the overall facial in-formation and can be specifically measured. fWHR is closely related to the individual aggressive. The present study reviewed previous researches on aggression and measurement of fWHR, and described the relationship between fWHR and aggression under the external and internal factors. Moreover, the researchers explained them from the perspective of cognition, physics and evolutionary. In the future, the studies can deepen these fields to enrich the theories and effectively prevent and control violence in society.
An Alternative HSS Preconditioner for the Unsteady Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations in Rotation Form

Abstract: We study the preconditioned iterative method for the unsteady Navier-Stokes equations. The rotation form of the Oseen system is considered. We apply an efficient preconditioner which is derived from the Hermitian/Skew-Hermitian preconditioner to the Krylov subspace-iterative method. Numerical experiments show the robustness of the preconditioned iterative methods with respect to the mesh size, Reynolds numbers, time step, and algorithm parameters. The preconditioner is efficient and easy to apply for the unsteady Oseen problems in rotation form.
Digital Library Activities in Europe: A Brief Overview

Abstract: The article is a brief overview of the digital library activities happening in the last decade in Europe. At first the definitions of the digital library was discussed. Then in the main part of the article the programs and projects on the digital library taking place in Europe are described briefly at three levels, which are digital library activities across Europe, national digital library activities and local digital library activities. In addition to the programs and projects several examples of the conferences and institutions in the field are also given in the article. Finally some conclusions are drawn based on the description above.
Dark Matter as a Possible New Energy Source for Future Rocket Technology

Abstract: Current rocket technology can not send the spaceship very far, because the amount of the chemical fuel it can take is limited. We try to use dark matter (DM) as fuel to solve this problem. In this work, we give an example of DM engine using dark matter annihilation products as propulsion. The acceleration is proportional to the velocity, which makes the velocity increase exponentially with time in non-relativistic region. The important points for the acceleration are how dense is the DM density and how large is the saturation region. The parameters of the spaceship may also have great influence on the results. We show that the (sub)halos can accelerate the spaceship to velocity $ 10^{- 5} c \sim 10^{- 3} c$. Moreover, in case there is a central black hole in the halo, like the galactic center, the radius of the dense spike can be large enough to accelerate the spaceship close to the speed of light.
An improved EM algorithm for solving MLE in constrained diffusion kurtosis imaging of human brain

Abstract: The displacement distribution of a water molecular is characterized mathematically as Gaussianity without considering potential diffusion barriers and compartments. However, this is not true in real scenario: most biological tissues are comprised of cell membranes, various intracellular and extracellular spaces, and of other compartments, where the water diffusion is referred to have a non-Gaussian distribution. Diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI), recently considered to be one sensitive biomarker, is an extension of diffusion tensor imaging, which quantifies the degree of non-Gaussianity of the diffusion. This work proposes an efficient scheme of maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) in DKI: we start from the Rician noise model of the signal intensities. By augmenting a Von-Mises distributed latent phase variable, the Rician likelihood is transformed to a tractable joint density without loss of generality. A fast computational method, an expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm for MLE is proposed in DKI. To guarantee the physical relevance of the diffusion kurtosis we apply the ternary quartic (TQ) parametrization to utilize its positivity, which imposes the upper bound to the kurtosis. A Fisher-scoring method is used for achieving fast convergence of the individual diffusion compartments. In addition, we use the barrier method to constrain the lower bound to the kurtosis. The proposed estimation scheme is conducted on both synthetic and real data with an objective of healthy human brain. We compared the method with the other popular ones with promising performance shown in the results.
Research on the Relationship of Commercial Bank’s Loan Loss Provision and Earning Management and Capital Management  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper reviewed and analyzed the development of our nation’s loan loss provision system, then studied the relations of commercial bank loan loss provision and earnings management and capital management through empirical study. This paper selected 14 domestic commercial banks of year 2001-2009 as data sample, using Kanagaretnam et al.’s (2003) research method, dividing the loan loss provision into two parts that is discretionary and nondiscretionary part, and empirically studied the relationship of discretionary part of loan loss provision and earnings before taxes and provisions (EBTP) and capital adequacy ratio (CAR). Empirical results show that: there is significant positive correlation between the discretionary loan loss provisions and earnings before taxes and provisions (EBTP), and there is significant negative correlation between the discretionary loan loss provisions and capital adequacy ratio (CAR). That provides evidence for the relation of bank loan loss provision and earnings management and capital management. In the last, combining with empirical research findings and the status of the loan loss provision system of China’s commercial banks, this paper made several suggestions to improve the system of loan loss provision.
Construction of Cross-Cultural Identity by Language Choice and Linguistic Practice: A Case-Study of Mixed Hong Kong-Mainland Identity in University Contexts  [PDF]

Studying relations between language and speaker’s identity is an interdisciplinary field that involves intersections among language, culture, and society. By examining the language choice and linguistic practice, especially code-mixing and code-switching, of the Mainland China students who are studying in universities of Hong Kong, we reveal a mixed Hong Kong-Mainland identity in these students: those who hold a Mainland-oriented identity tend to have a Putonghua-dominated language choice and linguistic practice, whereas those who embrace a Hong Kong-oriented identity tend to prefer a Cantonese-dominated choice and practice. This mixed identity helps better conceive the social image of Mainland immigrants in Hong Kong and discuss the cross-cultural identity formed by linguistic practice.

Interaction between Allelochemicals and Fusarium Root Rot in Asparagus Seedlings Cultured In Vitro  [PDF]

Abstract: The interaction between Fusarium root rot and 4 allelochemicals in asparagus seedlings was estimated in vitro to clarify the relationship between biotic and abiotic factors in asparagus decline. In in vitro culture of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. asparagi (Foa) with or without addition of 4 allelochemicals (caffeic acid, ferulic acid, quercetin, malic acid; 0.01%, 0.1%, w/v) using Czapec-Dox media, Foa propagation was suppressed in all the treatments. The degree of suppression became higher in 0.1% than 0.01% among all the allelochemicals. As for the axenic culture of asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L., “Welcome”) seedlings with the 4 allelochemicals, dry weight of both shoots and roots became lower compared to control in 0.1% and 0.01% of caffeic acid, 0.1% ferulic acid, 0.01% quercetin, only dry weight of shoots decreased in 0.1% malic acid. Two weeks after Foa inoculation with Foa-cultured PDA cubes in vitro, incidence of Fusarium root rot reached 100% in most of the plots. The severity of root rot increased in 0.01% and 0.1% caffeic acid, 0.1% ferulic acid, 0.1% malic acid compared to control. From these results, the 4 allelochemicals used in this study are supposed to suppress asparagus growth, and such growth reduction might enhance the disease severity of Fusarium root rot as an indirect effect. In addition, such effect might differ with the allelochemicals and concentrations in asparagus.
Extraction of Antioxidant Total Phenol from Lees of Xiaoqu Spirits  [PDF]

Abstract: By the Soxhlet extraction, ethanol is used as extraction solvent of lees to determinate the total phenol content of Xiaoqu spirits lees. Folin-phenol method is handled to extract and to determine the reducing ability of extraction. The total phenolic content in the most suitable condition is determinated by the Folin-phenol method and the optimum extraction technological condition of total phenol is determinated by the experiment. The experimental results show that the optimization conditions of the determination methods of total phenolic content are determined by 3.5 mL for the Folin phenol reagent, 1:1 for the 10% Na2CO3 ratio and 30 min for the chromogenic reaction at room temperature. The optimum extraction technological condition of total phenol from lees is as following: solid-liquid ratio 1:12, ethanol concentration 100%, extraction temperature 80℃, extraction time 10 h.
