Computing the Moore-Penrose Inverse of a Matrix Through Symmetric Rank-One Updates  [PDF]
Xuzhou Chen, Jun Ji
American Journal of Computational Mathematics (AJCM) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ajcm.2011.13016
Abstract: This paper presents a recursive procedure to compute the Moore-Penrose inverse of a matrix A. The method is based on the expression for the Moore-Penrose inverse of rank-one modified matrix. The computational complexity of the method is analyzed and a numerical example is included. A variant of the algorithm with lower computational complexity is also proposed. Both algorithms are tested on randomly generated matrices. Numerical performance confirms our theoretic results.

Three-body systems in physics of cold atoms and halo nuclei
Chen Ji
Physics , 2015,
Abstract: Few-body systems, such as cold atoms and halo nuclei, share universal features at low energies, which are insensitive to the underlying inter-particle interactions at short ranges. These low-energy properties can be investigated in the framework of effective field theory with two-body and three-body contact interactions. I review the effective-field-theory studies of universal physics in three-body systems, focusing on the application in cold atoms and halo nuclei.

Journal of Geoscience and Environment Protection (GEP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/gep.2014.22023
Abstract:

Our previous studies revealed the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon and phthalic acid esters were the major organic pollutants in the Jialing River and Yangtze River in the Three Gorges area, and they might cause the toxicity in male fertility when combined. Thus we used di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) and Benzo(a)pyrene (Bap) as their representatives respectively to explore their effects on the spermatogenesis in male rats. Male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups and respectively exposed to corn oil, Bap (5 mg/kg/d), DBP (250 mg/kg/d), and combined doses of Bap (5 mg/kg/d) and DBP (250 mg/kg/d) for 90 days. We observed a significant increase in the stillbirth rate after Bap and combined treatments, while the mean area of seminiferous tubules was reduced after Bap, DBP and combined treatments. Bap and combined treatment had a sup- pressing effect on meiosis in germ cells, which reduced the haploid contents and the ratio between haploid and diploid but increased the tetraploid and diploid contents and the ratio between hap- loid and tetraploid. These effects were more obvious in the combined group. Furthermore, the ex- pression of a number of proteins was changed, of which was associated with the oxidative stress and cAMP/PKA signaling pathway. Our results suggest that Bap has significant toxic effects on male fertility, while the combined treatment of Bap and DBP has more toxic effects.

Continuous Melt Suspension Crystallization of Phosphoric Acid  [PDF]
Aimei Chen, Jiawen Zhu, Bin Wu, Kui Chen, Lijun Ji
Journal of Crystallization Process and Technology (JCPT) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jcpt.2012.23014
Abstract: A continuous melt suspension crystallization process has been presented for the purification of the phosphoric acid in this study, which is performed in the cascade of a mixed suspension mixed product removal (MSMPR) crystallizer and a gravity wash column for the subsequent solid-liquid separation. Dynamic behavior in the crystallizer and role of reflux ration on the purification efficiency of column are studied in detail. A reasonable steady state with respect to the liquid phase is achieved after 2 to 3 hrs, which is followed by a solid-phase steady state in terms of the slurry density after 4 hrs. Reflux ratio is the effective parameter for separation and purification by the crystallization equipment from the influences of reflux ratio on the purity of product, the number of theoretical plates and the stability of the operations.
State-Dependence and Conditional Audit Policy  [PDF]
Ruey-Ji Guo, Yenpao Chen, Chun Chen Lee
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2013.35A2005
Abstract: This paper investigates how the state-dependence between two periods affects the optimal audit decision. Using a principal-agent model, based on a state-dependent assumption, we find that it is desirable to use a conditional (punitive) audit mechanism when the agent’s under-declaration benefit is significant and the principal’s audit cost is moderate. In that case, the audit policy for the current period will be contingent on the audit result in the preceding period.
Systemic Risk in China’s Interbank Lending Market  [PDF]
Hongduo Cao, Ying Li, Weilong Chen, Ji Chen
Journal of Mathematical Finance (JMF) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jmf.2017.71010
Abstract: We estimate an interbank lending distribution matrix, and then assume that the bankruptcy of a bank triggers a series of losses and other bank bankruptcies to establish an interbank bankruptcy chain network. We then analyze this network using the hyperlink-induced topic search (HITS) algorithm and identify the level of systemic risk. The empirical results show that there is no risk of systemic contagion in the interbank lending market in China. From the perspective of the lending market, China’s banking system is a network composed of core banks including the Bank of China and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Level II banks including the Construction Bank of China, the Agricultural Bank of China, the Bank of Communications, the National Development Bank, and the Industrial Bank, and numerous Level III banks. Considering the influence of the entrance of nonbanking institutions into the interbank lending market, it is found that innovative online financial products have weakened interbank lending relationships to some extent and reduced the possibility of collective collapse caused by relation among banks in a crisis, and have thus facilitated risk diversification.
Determination of Landau Fermi-liquid parameters of strongly interacting fermions by means of a nonlinear scaling transformation
Chen, Ji-sheng
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology , 2008, DOI: 10.1088/1742-5468/2009/08/L08002
Abstract: A nonlinear transformation approach is formulated for the correlated fermions' thermodynamics through a medium-scaling effective action. An auxiliary implicit variable-effective chemical potential is introduced to characterize the non-Gaussian fluctuations physics. By incorporating the nonlocal correlation effects, the achieved grand partition function is made of coupled highly nonlinear parametric equations. Analytically, the low temperature expansions for the strongly interacting unitary Fermi gas are performed for the adiabatic compressibility-sound speed and specific heat with the Sommerfeld lemma. The expressions for the Landau Fermi-Liquid parameters $F_0^s$ and $F_1^s$ of the strongly interacting fermion system are obtained. As a universal constant, the effective fermion mass ratio is $m^*/m={10/9}$ at unitarity.

Abstract:
Current status and problems in developing clinical guidelines for Chinese medicine and integrative medicine
Ke-ji CHEN
Zhong Xi Yi Jie He Xue Bao , 2009,
Abstract: : With the wide application of clinical guidelines and standardization of Chinese medicine (CM), guidelines of CM and/or integrative medicine (IM) were also emerging. By the guideline evaluation instruments such as the Appraisal of Guidelines Research and Evaluation (AGREE) Instrument and Conference on Guideline Standardization (COGS), a preliminary assessment of 11 clinical guidelines for CM and/or IM published before October 2008 was performed. Methodological description of evidence collection or synthesization was absent in most clinical guidelines, and evidence-grading criteria were listed in only one of the eleven guidelines. Inadequate standardization of guideline development, single professional background of guideline developers, and lack of high-grade evidence were the current problems. It was suggested that guideline development group should include individuals from multiple relevant professional fields. Stress should be laid on evidence collection and recommendation grading. Guideline developers should follow the rigorous development methodology of evidence-based guidelines, and the methods for evaluating evidence and grading recommendations should be set up according to the characteristics of medical literature of CM. In addition, more attention should be paid to appraise the quality of clinical practice guidelines of CM and IM.
