A Normative Model for Regional University Network Collaboration in Education  [PDF]

Abstract: Increasing demand for more specialized courses and programme increases the need for universities to differentiate their educational offer and portfolio. Increasing the course portfolio combined with small student populations at the same time ensuring high quality is a difficult challenge for most universities given their budget limitation and the access they have to educators in the specialized disciplines within their own organization. Pooling, coordination and utilization of resources through the creation of network creation and university collaborations is one option for coping with this challenge. This paper develops a normative model for intraregional university network collaboration in education aiming at preparing students for work in a particular industry. The paper deals with network organization, principles of operation, course structure, course delivery, and supporting activities.

Abstract: The EU, as the most developed international organization, provides a laboratory for observing the development of democratic structures outside its member-states. The democratic deficit debate thus has implications that reach beyond the EU and touch upon crucial issues of future developments within democratic theory. This review distinguishes between three different types of legitimacy, namely procedural, efficiency and social legitimacy, and authors are discussed according to which type of legitimacy that underlines their analysis of the democratic deficit. Most authors invoke one type of legitimacy as their basis, but a new strand is emerging that mixes different types of legitimacy when establishing normative criteria for the EU. It is concluded that, in order to further the debate, this new strand has potential to develop advanced normative models appropriate for democracy beyond the nation-state.

Abstract: Im folgenden Aufsatz wird der methodische Ansatz und die Durchführung einer qualitativen Mehrgenerationenstudie zum Geschichtsbewu tsein über den Nationalsozialismus skizziert. Das Hauptaugenmerk des Textes liegt auf dem wenig berücksichtigten Umstand, da Kommunikation – besonders zu Themen wie dem Nationalsozialismus – dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, da ihre Inhalte bzw. "Ergebnisse" im Zuge von vielf ltigen Interaktionsprozessen der beteiligten Akteure gemeinsam verfertigt werden. Entsprechend ist die Betrachtung dieser intersubjektiven Produktion von Daten Kernelement der qualitativen Analyse des erhobenen Textmaterials. Mit der Hermeneutischen Dialoganalyse wird ein Verfahren vorgestellt, bei dem die Aushandlungsprozesse der Interakteure im Zentrum stehen. Darüber hinaus wird das inhaltsanalytische Vorgehen und der Stand der Auswertung des Forschungsprojektes "Tradierung von Geschichtsbewu tsein" dargestellt. URN: urn:nbn:de:0114-fqs0002112 This paper discusses methodological questions raised in the context of a multigenerational study on the historical consciousness of the national socialist past in Germany. It focuses on an often underestimated aspect, namely that communication—especially if it is about National Socialism—implies, that its contents and "results" are jointly produced by its protagonists in the course of interaction. Accordingly, the intersubjective creation of the data is considered to be a crucial issue in qualitative analyses. The Hermeneutic Dialogue Analysis is introduced as a method to identify and examine these negotiation processes. In addition, content analytic methods are presented and preliminary results of the research project "Traditions of Historical Consciousness" are reported. Concentrándose en un aspecto frecuentemente subestimado, la comunicación, especialmente si se refiere al Nacional Socialismo, se asume que los contenidos y "resultados" de aquella son producidos conjuntamente por sus protagonistas durante la interacción.
