PLOS ONE , 2013, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0080498
Abstract: Cyatta abscondita, a new genus and species of fungus-farming ant from Brazil, is described based on morphological study of more than 20 workers, two dealate gynes, one male, and two larvae. Ecological field data are summarized, including natural history, nest architecture, and foraging behavior. Phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequence data from four nuclear genes indicate that Cyatta abscondita is the distant sister taxon of the genus Kalathomyrmex, and that together they comprise the sister group of the remaining neoattine ants, an informal clade that includes the conspicuous and well-known leaf-cutter ants. Morphologically, Cyatta abscondita shares very few obvious character states with Kalathomyrmex. It does, however, possess a number of striking morphological features unique within the fungus-farming tribe Attini. It also shares morphological character states with taxa that span the ancestral node of the Attini. The morphology, behavior, and other biological characters of Cyatta abscondita are potentially informative about plesiomorphic character states within the fungus-farming ants and about the early evolution of ant agriculture.
Role of the Osmotic Stress Regulatory Pathway in Morphogenesis and Secondary Metabolism in Filamentous Fungi

Toxins , 2010, DOI: 10.3390/toxins2040367
Abstract: Environmental stimuli trigger an adaptative cellular response to optimize the probability of survival and proliferation. In eukaryotic organisms from mammals to fungi osmotic stress, mainly through the action of the high osmolarity glycerol (HOG) pathway, leads to a response necessary for adapting and surviving hyperosmotic environments. In this review we show that the osmoadaptative response is conserved but not identical in different fungi. The osmoadaptative response system is also intimately linked to morphogenesis in filamentous fungi, including mycotoxin producers. Previous studies indicate that the response to osmotic stress is also coupled to the biosynthesis of natural products, including mycotoxins.

Dosis letales de sulfato de quinina y de quinindina en el ratón: Influencia del sexo
Rojas Martínez,Roberto; Pérez Cabrera,Adalberto; Rojas del Calvo,Adriana M; Rodríguez Sosa,Víctor;
Revista Cubana de Farmacia , 1996,
Abstract: the influence of sex on the quinine sulphate and quinidine lethality in mice was studied by two expiermental series: dose calculation according to litchfield and wilcoxon's methods, and observation of mortality produced by the administration of a unique prefixed dose of each drug. the results of the first series were processed as it is described in the above mentioned method (limits, lineality, parallelism, and relative potency). in the second series, it was used the fisher's exact probability test. similar lethal doses values were obtained with both drugs in connection with sex, but a significant differences was found between males and females. it was concluded that the female mouse was much more sensitive to the lethal effect of the drugs studied. some factors that may influence on the effective doses values of these drugs are analyzed.

Abstract: the results presented in this paper were obtained from a test carried out during the last series of a research project regarding the creep behaviour of argentinean eucalyptus grandis loaded in dry condition. a test with a sample containing 15 structural-sized beams was carried out during 470 days. 7 pieces were free of pith and another 8 contained it. the results allow to compare the creep behaviour of these beams with previous data reported for both structural-sized and small-clear specimens of this timber species and also with those reported for other species. the effectiveness of the criteria adopted by overseas standards as well as those of latin-american countries for calculating the creep deflections of this timber species under a long-term loading is analysed. the creep deflections obtained in the present research are higher than those calculated by means of the procedures of the brazilian standard nbr 7190, the european standard eurocode 5, the american standard national design specification for wood construction and the peruvian standard. on the contrary, creep results obtained in this test are lower than those calculated according to the new zealand standard nzs 3603, the chilean standard nch 1198 and the former german standard din 1052
L-arabinose production by hidrolysis of mesquite gum by a crude extract with α-L-arabinofuranosidase activity from Aspergillus niger

Revista mexicana de ingeniería química , 2007,
Abstract: a crude enzymatic extract from aspergillus niger 10 with α-l-arabinofuranosidase activity (ec 3.2.1.55) was obtained and its effect on the hydrolysis of mesquite gum was determined and compared to that of a commercial α-l-arabinofuranosidase from a. niger. the growth parameters of a. niger 10 obtained were xmax = 3.03 g l-1 and μmax = 0.07 h-1. the maximum enzymatic activity obtained was 65.93 u l-1. optimum temperature and activation energy for the crude extract were 50°c and 46.15 kj mol-1 and for the commercial enzyme 40 °c and 52.76 kj mol-1, respectively. the apparent kinetic parameters km and vmax for the crude extract were 4.87 g l-1 and 0.15 μmol min-1 g-1, and for the commercial enzyme 76.45 g l-1 and 3.85 /mol min-1 g-1, respectively. yields of l-arabinose recovery for the crude extract and the commercial enzyme were 17.04 % and 2.78 %, respectively, based on the reported average content of l-arabinose in mesquite gum.
Secondary Metabolism and Development Is Mediated by LlmF Control of VeA Subcellular Localization in Aspergillus nidulans

PLOS Genetics , 2013, DOI: 10.1371/journal.pgen.1003193
Abstract: Secondary metabolism and development are linked in Aspergillus through the conserved regulatory velvet complex composed of VeA, VelB, and LaeA. The founding member of the velvet complex, VeA, shuttles between the cytoplasm and nucleus in response to alterations in light. Here we describe a new interaction partner of VeA identified through a reverse genetics screen looking for LaeA-like methyltransferases in Aspergillus nidulans. One of the putative LaeA-like methyltransferases identified, LlmF, is a negative regulator of sterigmatocystin production and sexual development. LlmF interacts directly with VeA and the repressive function of LlmF is mediated by influencing the localization of VeA, as over-expression of llmF decreases the nuclear to cytoplasmic ratio of VeA while deletion of llmF results in an increased nuclear accumulation of VeA. We show that the methyltransferase domain of LlmF is required for function; however, LlmF does not directly methylate VeA in vitro. This study identifies a new interaction partner for VeA and highlights the importance of cellular compartmentalization of VeA for regulation of development and secondary metabolism.
Leer desde la filosofia, leer desde la literatura: la apología de Sácrates como estrategia didáctica en el nivel polimodal
Sosa,Rosario; Sosa,Marcela;
Cuadernos de la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales. Universidad Nacional de Jujuy , 2006,
Abstract: this paper tries to continue the way started by a previous one about didactics of our own disciplines in the polimodal level, where we proposed to read a theatrical play about the philosopher baruch spinoza and analyze different aspects of it from both philosophy and literature. in this opportunity, we would like to show how it is possible to work with a philosophical text, socrates'apology, in both disciplinary spaces. though many teachers use non traditional resources (literary texts, comics, movies, news' articles...) in the teaching of philosophy, usually it's very hard to find bibliography which describes systematically how the experience could be concreted. besides the philosophical questions that we could distinguish in apology (philosophy's concept, philosophical method, pedagogic conception, ethical values…), from perspective of literature this text allows to undertake its teaching from a present theoretical frame, the discourse's theory. while we put in evidence the connections that exist between different discourse practices (artistic and non artistic) of one society and the differences between reality and discourse, the student will have the possibility of thinking about fallacy of some disciplinary prejudices that troubled his access to literary/philosophical texts and will open his reading of world as a big cultural text.
