Abstract: influence of atmospheric variables and water temperature, winds, cloudiness, depth, salinity, grass and algal abundance, and group structure on the spatial distribution of trichechus manatus manatus was studied in chetumal bay, quintana roo, mexico. boat surveys were done from november 1994 trough june 1995. there was little association with cloudiness and atmospheric and water temperature (in contrast with reports for the florida subspecies, trichechus manatus latirostris); the variables with moderate association were salinity (as in florida), depth (frequent use of depths between 0.80-2 m) and group structure (which suggests that the zone is not an important mating area). spatial distribution was more associated with drastic changes in wind intensity and the available food (similar to previous works in mexico).

Influence of atmospheric variables and water temperature, winds, cloudiness, depth, salinity, grass and algal abundance, and group structure on the spatial distribution of Trichechus manatus manatus was studied in Chetumal Bay, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Abstract: CD66b is a member of the carcinoembryonic antigen family, which mediates the adhesion between neutrophils and to endothelial cells. Allergen-specific immunotherapy is widely used to treat allergic diseases, and the molecular mechanisms underlying this therapy are poorly understood. The present work was undertaken to analyze A) the in vitro effect of allergens and immunotherapy on cell-surface CD66b expression of neutrophils from patients with allergic asthma and rhinitis and B) the in vivo effect of immunotherapy on cell-surface CD66b expression of neutrophils from nasal lavage fluid during the spring season. Myeloperoxidase expression and activity was also analyzed in nasal lavage fluid as a general marker of neutrophil activation. Results CD66b cell-surface expression is upregulated in vitro in response to allergens, and significantly reduced by immunotherapy (p<0.001). Myeloperoxidase activity in nasal lavage fluid was also significantly reduced by immunotherapy, as were the neutrophil cell-surface expression of CD66b and myeloperoxidase (p<0.001). Interestingly, CD66b expression was higher in neutrophils from nasal lavage fluid than those from peripheral blood, and immunotherapy reduced the number of CD66+MPO+ cells in nasal lavage fluid. Thus, immunotherapy positive effects might, at least in part, be mediated by the negative regulation of the CD66b and myeloperoxidase activity in human neutrophils.
El positivismo excluyente de Raz
VEGA GóMEZ, Juan;
Boletín mexicano de derecho comparado , 2004,
Abstract: there have always been different interpretations regarding positivism's main tenets. as the author of this essay explains, legal positivism is not a homogenous stream, and it is of little use to support or criticize positivism in general, without pointing out the specific thesis subject to defence or scrutiny (this is valid in relation to other isms in legal philosophy). today, positivism shows this difference in points of view with an internal debate between exclusive and inclusive positivists. this article has as its main goal to explain raz' arguments concerning exclusive positivism, in order to make a contribution to the understanding of the line of argumentation that leads to this conception. in this way, the essay helps us to understand the differences between raz' perspective and other positivisms.

Abstract: electrolyte abnormalities are common in the severely burned patient. there is little information with regard to the frequency and magnitude of hypomagnesemia, as well as on risk factors for this condition. we performed an observational, retrospective analysis of 35 burned patients treated at the plastic and reconstructive surgery service at the hospital central sur pemex, mexico city. we determined serum magnesium behavior and divided patients into two groups: the first included 11 patients with burns and hypomagnesemia, and the second, 24 patients with burns but without hypomagnesemia. risk factor identification was performed. we found patient at riskwas the one with more than 40% of 2nd or 3rd degree total burned body area, in day 4 or 10 after the burn, and with hypokalemia, hypocalcemia, or both, and without intravenous (i.v.) supplementation of magnesium. the best way to prevent or avoid major complications is to identify the high-risk patient, or to diagnose earlier.
