Torres Torres, Felipe;Delgadillo Macías, Javier;
Convergencia , 2009,
Abstract: there is a persistent concern in mexico on guiding the role that the countryside should play in the future of national development, considering its present difficulties in backwardness and stagnation. a vision of how to move this process is present in the new law on sustainable rural development (ley de desarrollo rural sustentable), which suggests an approach to development from the territory as a subject of action and new processes are recognized as rural routes to rebuild the fabric of rural life. however, there is still the need to express this law in an operational policy that actually includes realizable alternatives to reverse the depopulation of the countryside caused by marginalization and massive migration in the face of the need for peasant's survival. in this case, the proposal should lead to its greater possible scope the territorial approach to rural development and operational strategy. therefore, what we are proposing in this paper is to raise some points that may be strategic in defining a rural policy for the country, from territorial approach and regional development, taking into account the dimensions of economic and social fragmentation which generate the abandonment of the countryside, but also as a new scale of opportunities that entails the presence of rural activities increasingly diverse and complex which could be translated into the new rural development policy that we endeavor for as a way to reduce social imbalances in the country.

Delgadillo Maclas,Javier;
EURE (Santiago) , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0250-71612008000100004
Abstract: the coming into force of the north american free trade agreement (nafta) from 1994 consolidated a phase of mexican economic liberalization that had begun in 1982. the systematic operationalization of the nafta in different sectors of the economy (incorporated into this commercial agreement) was also accompanied by favorable spatial impacts in some cases, and unfavorable impacts for a significant number of regions and states of the mexican federation. fourteen years on, this article analyzes the processes of spatial restructuring that have been generated, the regional disparities associated with the new international scenario, and explains the economic relations that run in opposition to the current stage of the dominant neoliberal model, which has excluded other traditional forms of organization and has kept many areas of mexico in a condition of social marginalization

The coming into force of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) from 1994 consolidated a phase of Mexican economic liberalization that had begun in 1982.
A Phytogeographical Classification of the North American Pacific Coast Based on Climate, Vegetation and a Floristic Analysis of Vascular Plants
Manuel Peinado,Miguel ángel Macías,Juan Luis Aguirre,José Delgadillo
Journal of Botany , 2009, DOI: 10.1155/2009/389414
Abstract: This study was designed to explore floristic variation along the Pacific coast from Cook Inlet, Alaska, to the southern tip of Baja California, Mexico. Data corresponding to 965 phytosociological relevés (including 686 vascular plants) obtained by sampling 279 coastal sites were examined. Using an objective classification system (Average Linkage Clustering), floristic data acquired in fieldwork were related to the macroclimates of the study area. The registered taxa were grouped into phytogeographical elements, giving rise to a phytogeographical classification in which eight floristic provinces were distinguished. Floristic differences among provinces were correlated with palaeoclimatic and palaeogeographical events. The boreal and temperate provinces show high percentages of broadly distributed elements, whose origins can be found in the Boreotropical or Arcto-Tertiary geoflora that dominated the Northern Hemisphere during the Tertiary. The floristically richest provinces are the three that occupy the Mediterranean zone, since these provinces harbour elements of Arcto-Tertiary and Madro-Tertiary geofloras. The flora of tropical Baja California is characterised by a high number of taxa related to Neotropical flora, especially to those showing links with South America.
