Knowledge Management Practices in a Successful Research and Development Organization
Jasemi, Milad,Piri, Morteza
Open Journal of Knowledge Management , 2012,
Abstract: In this paper after a review on the concept and literature of knowledge management, the conceptual model of a successful knowledge management system that is currently being applied in a research and development organization is presented and discussed. The main contribution of the paper is presenting the model in its useful and practical status without becoming involved in theoretical discussions that have different shapes but similar meanings.

Abstract: ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In an effort to model stock markets, many researchers have developed portfolio selection models to maximise investor satisfaction. However, this field still needs more accurate and comprehensive models. Development of these models is difficult because of unpredictable economic, social, and political variables that affect stock market behaviour. In this paper, a new model with three modules for portfolio optimisation is presented. The first module derives the efficient frontier through a new approach; the second presents an intelligent mechanism for emitting trading signals; while the third module integrates the outputs of the first two modules. Some important features of the model in comparison with others are: 1) consideration of investors’ emotions – the psychology of the market – that arises from the three above-mentioned factors; 2) significant loosening of simplifying assumptions about markets and stocks; and 3) greater sensitivity to new data.

Journal of Applied Sciences , 2009,
Abstract: To evaluate the effect of varicocele repair on sperm motility, sperm condensation and pregnancy rate in varicocele patients who referred to Department of Urology of Golestan and Apadana hospitals. The records were retrospectively evaluated for infertile patients with palpable varicocele who underwent varicocelectomy at Department of Urology of Golestan and Apadana Hospitals, Ahwaz, Iran from December 1990 to September 2008. The semen analysis of patient at pre-operatives and 3, 6 and 12 months post-operative and also pregnancy rate was calculated at 3, 6 and 12 months of follow-up. Before operation, no significant differences were seen among patients with right and left varicocele in sperm motility and condensation (p>0.05). Significant differences were seen in sperm motility and condensation of patients with bilateral varicocele compared to another patients (p<0.05). After surgery in three groups of patients with varicocele, the sperm motility and condensation significantly increased (p<0.05). Percentage of spontaneous pregnancy in 1 year after varicocele treatment is 31 to 40% of cases. The results of present study have shown that repair of varicocele by surgery significantly improved sperm motility, condensation and also 31-40% of infertile patients achieved pregnancy spontaneously.

Journal of Medical Sciences , 2009,
Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate whether cryopreservation of small volume of sample (sperm+cryoprotectant) was feasible using open pulled straw and also compared the outcomes of open pulled straw and conventional straw as carrier for normal human sperm cryopreservation. Semen samples were obtained from 10 men undergoing evaluation for infertility after 3-4 days of abstinence. Washed normal sperm samples were divided into three aliquots as follows: (1) Fresh; (2) cryopreserved in open pulled straw and (3) crypreserved in conventional straw. In order to do cryopreservation of sperm in open pulled straw first washed normal sperm samples were mixed with equal volume of test yolk buffer and 12% v/v glycerol, later on 3-4 μL from the prepared mixture was loaded in each straw by using syringe. The loaded straws were plunged into liquid nitrogen and after 3 months recovered and thawed. Each straw was emptied of their fluid content in drop of 10 μL medium covered with mineral oil. Motility of vitrified-thawing sperm was assessed by using inverted microscope. The results show as percent progress motility±SD and the p<0.05 were suggested as significant. The percent progress motility±SD of fresh sperm was evaluated as follow in study groups: For fresh group was evaluated as 59.2±7.6; the value of 37.5±8.2 in cryopreserved sperm in open pulled straws group; and value of 26.3±6.4 for conventional straw group, respectively. Statistical analysis shows that the difference between cryopreserved sperm in open pulled straws and conventional straw groups is significant (p = 0.001). Because of the significant difference between cryopreserved sperm in open pulled straws and conventional straw groups, we concluded that vitrification of human sperm is feasible using open pulled straw. The results of this study shows that open pulled straw could be a good carrier for cryopreservation of small volume of normal human sperm.

Abstract: ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Coherency is becoming a necessary feature for any risk measure, and now is an acceptable tool in risk management to assess the risk measures. For example, recent studies have strongly criticised VaR-based models for not providing a coherent risk measure. Because of such acceptance, it is important to improve the efficiency of the touchstone for evaluating risk measures in order to achieve a fairer assessment. This is just the challenge that this paper seeks to address. This goal is achieved on the one hand by doing some simplifications in axioms of coherency without losing their major financial points, and on the other hand by removing the paradox between two of the axioms. The new concept is called ‘sensible coherency’, and the risk measure that satisfies the four new simplified and corrected axioms will be ‘sensibly coherent’. Finally, the new axioms are applied to a particular type of lower partial moments as a case study.

Urology Journal , 2012,
Abstract: Purpose: To evaluate the prevalence and type of rigid ureteroscopy complications and suggest a new method for ureteral avulsion prevention.Materials and Methods: Between March 2002 and March 2009, we retrospectively evaluated 2955 patients who had undergone diagnostic or therapeutic ureteroscopy for asymptomatic hematuria, migrated ureteral stent, or transurethral lithotripsy. They were enrolled from four hospitals in Ahvaz, Iran. Results: Complications were encountered in 241 (8%) patients, including transient hematuria (4.2%), mucosal erosion (1.4%), stone migration (1.3%), ureteral perforation (1.2%), and fever and/or sepsis (1.0%). Ureteral avulsion occurred in 6 (0.2%) patients. Mostly, complications were managed conservatively, using ureteral stenting. Ureteral avulsions were managed using a new technique. Conclusion: In our series, the complication rate is comparable with the literature. A new technique was used in case of ureteroscope entrapment in the ureter, to lessen the occurrence of ureteral avulsion.
