Antidiabetic activity of flower buds of Michelia champaca Linn.

Abstract: Objective: To identify the antihyperglycemic activity of various extracts, petroleum ether (60-80 o ), chloroform, acetone, ethanol, aqueous and crude aqueous, of the flower buds of Michelia champaca, and to identify the antidiabetic activity of active antihyperglycemic extract. Materials and Methods: Plant extracts were tested for antihyperglycemic activity in glucose overloaded hyperglycemic rats. The effective antihyperglycemic extract was tested for its hypoglycemic activity at two-dose levels, 200 and 400 mg/kg respectively. To confirm its utility in the higher model, the effective extract of M. champaca was subjected to antidiabetic study in alloxan induced diabetic model at two dose levels, 200 and 400 mg/kg respectively. The biochemical parameters, glucose, urea, creatinine, serum cholesterol, serum triglyceride, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein, hemoglobin and glycosylated hemoglobin were also assessed in the experimental animals. Results: The ethanolic extract of M. champaca exhibited significant antihyperglycemic activity but did not produce hypoglycemia in fasted normal rats. Apart from this extract, the crude aqueous and petroleum ether extracts were found active only at the end of the first hour. Treatment of diabetic rats with ethanolic extract of this plant restored the elevated biochemical parameters significantly (P< 0.05) (P< 0.01) and the activity was found dose dependent. Conclusion: This study supports the traditional claim and the ethanolic extract of this plant could be added in traditional preparations for the ailment of various diabetes-associated complications.
Morphoanatomy of Stems of Murraya koenigii Spreng

Abstract: The main aim of this study is to develop standard pharmacognostic parameters for stems of Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng (Rutaceae). Pharmacognostic evaluation included examination of morphological and microscopic characters, determination of ash values, extractive values, micrometric measurements, powder characters and fluorescent analysis. The studied morphoanatomical characters of the stem would be an useful tool for the identification this herbal drug.
Antidiabetic activity of a polyherbal formulation (Karnim Plus)

Abstract: Karnim Plus, an herbal formulation marketed for diabetes, was investigated for its glucose tolerance, hypoglycaemic, and antidiabetic effects in rats. The glucose tolerance test was studied at 400 mg/kg. Hypoglycemic studies were carried out in normal rats at two dose levels, 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg. Antidiabetic effect was analyzed in alloxan-induced diabetic rats at two dose levels, 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg. Glibenclamide, 4 mg/kg, was used as the standard drug. The biochemical parameters such as glucose, urea, creatinine, serum cholesterol, and serum triglyceride were also assessed in experimental animals. The product showed its effectiveness in oral glucose tolerance test and antidiabetic activity, but it did not produce hypoglycemic effect. Treatment of diabetic rats with the product restored the elevated biochemical parameters significantly. The present study supports the use of this product as an antidiabetic.
Diuretic activity of a herbal product UNEX

Abstract: In the present study, product UNEX capsules (syn. Herbajules Tricare in Malaysia) was tested for diuretic activity using the Lipschitz test. The product UNEX containing the extracts of Boerhaavia diffusa and Tribulus terrestris was studied at two dose levels of 600 and 800 mg/kg body weight (p.o.). Standard drug used was furosemide (20 mg/kg body weight) in a 0.9% sodium chloride solution. Urine volume was recorded for all the groups for 5 hours. The product UNEX exhibited significant diuretic activity at doses of 600 and 800 mg/kg body weight as evidenced by increased total urine volume and the urine concentration of Na + , K + , and Cl . The result thus supports the use of product UNEX as diuretic.
Extraction of Ashwagandha by conventional extraction methods and evaluation of its anti-stress activity

Abstract: The present study was conducted to compare the yield and the antistress activity of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) extracts, using two extraction methods: hot continuous percolation and maceration. Various parameters like temperature, extraction time (10 hours) solvents (water, alcohol, hydroalcohol) and drug-solvent ratios (1:6, 1:8, 1:10) were fixed. The highest yield was found to be 16.96% w/w by maceration process using water (1:8). The activity of different extracts was done by Plus-Maze model using alprazolam as the standard drug. Significant result was found in water extract and hydroalcoholic (1:8) extract prepared by maceration method and also in hydro-alcoholic extract (1:8) prepared by soxhlet process.

Abstract: Single crystals of 8-Hydroxyquinoline(8-HQ) and Benzophenone substituted 8-HydroxyQuinoline(B8-HQ) are grown by slow evaporation of acetone at room temperature. Coloured crystals of 8-HQ and B8-HQ with good optical quality of dimensions 54 × 3 × 1.5 mm3 and 27 × 3 × 1 mm3 are harvested. Single crystal X-ray diffractometer was utilized to measure the unit cell parameters and to confirm the crystal structure. The presence of various functional groups in the molecule was ascertained by FTIR spectral analysis. The cut-offwavelength of 8-HQ andB8-HQwas centered at 350 and 356 nm. The functional groups in the molecule are elucidated by 1H and 13C-NMR spectral analyses. Kurtz Perry test confirms the SHG in8-HQ andB8-HQ single crystals.
Nucleic acid drugs: a novel approach

Abstract: Nucleic acid base sequence of proteins plays a crucial role in the expression of gene. The gene is responsible for the synthesis of proteins and these proteins, which are synthesized, are responsible for the biological process and also for dreadful diseases as well. Once if the nucleic acid sequence is altered, we would be able to block or transfer the message for protein synthesis, there by preventing the particular protein, which is responsible for the disease. These nucleic acids act as drugs by different mechanisms, they may bind with the synthesized proteins, and they can hybridize to a messenger RNA leading to translation arrest or may induce degradation to target RNA. In this way the nucleic acids act as drug for inhibiting gene expression or protein synthesis. This article examines about the different types of nucleic acid drugs, their mechanisms, advantages, drawbacks and their future prospects. Key Words: Aptamers, ribozymes, antisense oligonucleotides. Abstract:

The paper describes the development results on one-dimensional (1D) asymptotic model of the formation kinetics for the objects (clusters) of subnuclear (quark) and subatomic (nuclear) matters. A concept of the objects distribution density wave φ(a, t) in space of sizes a lies in the basis for analytical description of the processes under consideration. The proposed formalism makes it possible to describe in an adequate way the final outcomes of the well-known catastrophic phenomena in the world of elementary particles. Mass characteristics of different processes of approach to equilibrium in nuclear reactions are calculated.

Проанал зовано вплив дом шок он в зал за кобальту на х м чний склад отриманих зразк в Manganese dioxide samples have been prepared by the anode deposition from fluoride containing electrolytes based on manganese sulphate at the presence of additives of iron(II), cobalt(II) ions. Obtained materials were characterised with AAS and DTA. The influence of doping by ions of iron(II) and cobalt(II) on the chemical composition of the samples obtained has been analysed. Образцы диоксида марганца получены методом анодного осаждения из фторсодержащих электролитов на основе сульфата марганца в присутствии примесей ионов двухвалентных железа или кобальта. Полученные продукты характеризовались методами ААС и ДТА. Проанализировано влияние примесей ионов железа и кобальта на химический состав полученных образцов.
Numerical Investigations of a New N-body Simulation Method  [PDF]

Abstract: Numerical investigation of a new similarity method (the Aldar-Kose method) for N-body simulations is described. Using this method we have carried out numerical simulations for two tasks: 1) calculation of the temporal behavior of different physical parameters of active galactic nuclei (AGN) containing a super massive black hole (SMBH), an accretion disk, and a compact stellar cluster; 2) calculation of the stellar capture rate to the central SMBH without accretion disk. The calculations show good perspectives for applications of the similarity method to optimize the evolution model calculations of large stellar systems and of AGN.
