Abstract: The experiment was carried out in nutrient solution, under greenhouse conditions at the Soil Science Department - Lavras Federal University, Minas Gerais state, Brazil, to evaluate the effect of different relationships of potassium with calcium and with sodium, upon growth of peach palm (Bactris gasipaes H.B.K.) seedlings. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, with ninetreatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of the foolowing K/Ca relationships: 0.0/3.0; 1.0/2.5; 2.0/2.0; 3.0/1.5; 4.0/1.0; 5.0/0.5; and 6.0/0.0 mmol L-1 and two additional treatments with variation in the concentration of sodium constituting the K/Na relationships of: 2.0/0.0 and 1.0/2.0. In this last one part of the potassium was substituted by sodium. The experimental units were constituted by one vase containing one plant. Height, perimeter at the stem level, leaf area and dry matter of leaves, stipes and roots were evaluated. The K/Ca relationships of 2.0/2.0 and 3.0/1.5, were the ones that provided larger medium values for leaf area and dry matter of parts of the plant, and this last one, favored more the growth of the plants. In the treatments without sodium or with the increase concentration of sodium all variables evaluated were negatively affected. Symptoms of deficiency of potassium in the leaves, followed by drastic reduction in growth appeared in the plants submitted to relationships where it was absent or with 1 mmol L-1.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the nutritional status of the 'prata an?'(aab) banana cultivated in north of minas gerais state using, the method of the diagnosis integrated system and recommendation (dris). the nutritional evaluations were performed in 168 leaf samples collected in 58 areas cultivated with irrigated banana . the cu and mn were the nutrients that presented deficient in larger frequencies of banana plantations and the nutrients that presented excessive content in larger frequencies of banana plantations were ca, mg and mn. the n and k content were deficient in 18% and 23% of the banana plantations, respectively. the frequency of banana plantations with adequate content of n was larger in the high yielding banana population. the same frequency was verified with adequate content of k among banana plantations of high and low yiel. fators of non-nutritional limited the banana yield of the population of low productivity.

Abstract: the effects of the irrigation using calcareous water on some chemical and physical properties of the soil, on the foliar nutrient content and on the productivity of ‘prata an?’ (aab) banana crops were evaluated. a total of 100 commercial banana crops were selected, being 50 commercial banana crops irrigated with calcareous water. it was verified that the banana crops irrigated with calcareous water presented greater foliar content of ca, greater produtivity and the soils of these banana crops presented greater ph, eletric conductivity, ca and organic matter content and smaller density in relation to those irrigated with non calcareous water.

Abstract: aiming to study the effect of the liming on the concentration of macronutrients in sweet passion fruit cuttings (passiflora alata curtis), until 150 days after germination, a experiment was carried out in the greenhouse the federal university of lavras. the statistical design used was randomized blocks in a factorial scheme (2 x 4) + 2, with four replications. the treatments were two soil classes (dystrophic red-yellow latosol - lvad and dystrophic red latosol - lvd), four base saturation levels (40, 60, 80 and 100%) and two more additional treatments, lvad without liming and lvd without liming. after 150 days, the dry matter of shoots and roots and the macronutrients contents in the shoots dry matter were evaluated. it was concluded that the increase of base saturation levels increase the contents of p, mg and s in the shoots dry matter of passion fruit cuttings, for both soil classes. the contents of ca and k in shoots dry matter of passion fruits growing in lvd, increase and decrease respectively, and no response in the lvad.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to establish the dris (diagnosis and recommendations integrated system ) norms for the 'prata an?' banana (aab) cultivated in the semi-arid of the north of minas gerais state under irrigation. a total of 58 areas commercially cultivated with 'prata an?' banana were selected. in each area, leaves samples were collected in three successive cycles of banana production in the initial phase of emission of the bunch, except for six areas, in which the collections were performed only in two successive cycles, totaling 168 leaves samples, which were analyzed for determination of the nutrients (n, p, k, ca, mg, s, b, cu, fe, mn and zn). banana's bunches of the plants marked with paint were harvested and weighted. the areas were divided in high-yielding population (hyp) (>30 t ha-1 year-1) and in low-yielding population (lyp) (< 30 t ha-1year-1). the results of the leaves analyses and yield of each area formed a database. the average, the variance and the variation coefficient for the relationship two to two among nutrients tenors were calculated for hyp and lyp. the norms dris were established using the results of the leaves analyses of coming samples of hyp. 55 relationship were selected among nutrients tenors that presented the largest reasons between the variances of lyp and hyp (s2l/s2h ).

Abstract: Seedlings of Myracrodruon urundeuva were cultivated in Hoagland and Arnon nutrient solution with Ni 2+ levels: 0; 2,5; 5; 10; 15 and 20 mg Ni2+ L-1 for 40 days. Evaluations of the parameters plant height, stem diameter and root, stem and leaves dry matter production showed significant reduction with increase of Ni2+ levels, except for the stem diameter. The treatment with 2,5 mg Ni2+ L-1 reduced 40% of the plant height and 48% of the total dry matter production; the level of 20 mg Ni2+ L-1 caused the death of the plants. The critical level of Ni toxicity was 1,02 mg L-1. It is also described the symptoms of Ni toxicity.

Abstract: the diagnosis based in nutrient contents in plants can be efficient to identify nutritional deficiency and toxic levels and associated with increasing fertilization in bean plants, reinforce the necessity of studies in this area. to study the effect of n and p2o5 doses on the levels of macronutrients in the shoot of the common bean cv. brs-mg talism? and in grain yield, it was conducted a field experiment in the winter of 2002, in lavras, state of minas gerais, brazil. a randomized complete block design was used with three replications and a factorial scheme 4 x 4 involving four n doses and four phosphorus doses. at full flowering, the plants were picked and divided in leaves + petiole, flowers + pods and beanstalks + branches for macronutriente levels determination. the data were submitted to analyses of variance and regression. increasing n in the fertilization raised levels of n, p and k in leaves + petiole, n, k and mg in beanstalks + branches and n and k in flowers + pods of common bean. levels of s and k in flowers + pods decreased when n and p2o5, respectively, were enhanced. the changes in macronutrients levels in shoot of the common beans cv. brs mg-talism? were within adequate standards, even when using fertilization doses for maximum productivity of common bean.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to study the influence of the zinc-phosphorus relationship on the growth, content and accumulation of nutrients in brazilian walnut (cordia goeldiana huber). samples of dark-red latosol, 0 - 20 cm depth, from the campus of the federal university of lavras, with 1 mg p (mehlich 1) and 0.9 mg zn per dm3 soil. the experiment was arranged in a complete randomized factorial design 4 x 3, with 4 p doses (0; 150; 300 and 450 mg dm-3) and 3 zn doses (0; 5 and 10 mg dm-3), with 4 repetitions. at 12 months after planting, plants were harvested, and dry matter of shoots, roots and leaves were ground separately for chemical analysis. phosphorus application promoted increase in seedling growth and in the contents and accumulation of p in the different plant parts, but caused reduction in leaf zinc contents. the zinc-phosphorus interaction caused reduction in the zinc content in the roots, when in the presence of the different zinc doses. the zinc doses provided increases in both the level and content of zinc in the leaves and roots and reduced p contents in the leaves and shoots. the effect on the other macronutrients varied with the plant part.

Abstract: O Sistema Integrado de Diagnose e Recomenda o (DRIS) é uma metodologia de interpreta o de resultados de análise foliar. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o nível de suficiência de zinco no solo e nas folhas da bananeira ‘Prata An ’, por meio de normas DRIS. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com três repeti es dos tratamentos por três blocos e quatro tratamentos (0, 10, 20 e 40 kg de zinco ha-1 ano-1), aplicados na forma de sulfato de zinco. Foram avaliados a produtividade de frutos de bananeira, teores foliares de macro e micronutrientes e os teores de Zn extraídos pelo Mehlich 1 e DTPA a pH 7,3. O DRIS foi consistente em avaliar a resposta à aplica o de Zn no solo. Aprodutividade de frutos de banana ‘Prata An ’ de 22,7 t ha-1 atingiu o melhor equilíbrio nutricional com a aplica o da dose de 7,0 kg ha-1 ano-1 de Zn via solo. O teor ótimo de Zn no solo, associado ao melhor equilíbrio nutricional da bananeira ‘Prata An ’ foi de 16,7 mg dm-3 (Mehlich-1) e 5,7 mg dm-3 (DTPA a pH 7,3) e para Zn foliar foi 14,4 mg kg-1. The Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) is an interpretation methodology of leaf analysis results. The aim of this work was to determine the zinc sufficiency level in the soil and in the leaves of the banana tree ‘Prata An ’ through the DRIS method. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with four treatments (0, 10, 20, and 40 kg of zinc ha-1 year-1) and three replications of the treatments for three blocks. Zinc was applied as zinc sulphate. The fruit yields as well as leaf contents of macro and micronutrients and soil Zn contents extracted by Mehlich 1 and DTPA (pH 7.3) wereall evaluated for correlation purposes. The DRIS was reliable for evaluating the crop response to Zn application in the soil. The yield of ‘Prata An ’ banana of 22.7 t ha-1 reached the best nutritional balance with a soil application of 7.0 kg Zn ha-1 year-1. The optimal Zn content in the soil associated with the best nutritional balance of ‘Prata An ’ banana was of 16.7 mg dm-3 for Mehlich 1 and 5.7 mg dm-3 for DTPA. For the foliar content, the optimal Zn content in the leaf was 14.4 mg kg-1.

Abstract: the objective of this research was to verify the influence of sources and doses of phosphorus in the productivity of vernalized garlic in soil with low phosphorus content. the experiment was carried out in field conditions in the horticulture sector at the universidade federal de lavras. three sources (simple superphosphate, with 18% of p2o5; triple superphosphate, with 41% of p2o5 and magnesium term phosphate, with 17% of p2o5), three doses (200, 400 e 600kg ha-1 de p2o5), and one additional treatment, that didn't receive manuring with phosphorus were tested. the application of 200kg ha-1 of p2o5, using triple superphosphate provides the best profit in total mass of plants and productivity of commercial bulbs.
