Abstract: The regulation of the inflammatory response is essential to maintaining homeostasis. Several studies have investigated new drugs that may contribute to avoiding or minimizing excessive inflammatory process. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of extracts of green algae Caulerpa mexicana on models inflammation. In mice, the inflammatory peritonitis model is induced by zymosan. Previous treatment of mice with aqueous and methanolic extracts of C. mexicana was able to suppress the cell migration to the peritoneal cavity, in a time-dependent but not in a dose-dependent manner. The treatment of mice with C. mexicana extracts also decreased the xylene-induced ear edema, exerting strong inhibitory leukocyte migration elicited by zymosan into the air pouch. We concluded that administration of the extracts resulted in a reduction of cell migration to different sites as well as a decrease in edema formation induced by chemical irritants. This study demonstrates for the first time the anti-inflammatory effect of aqueous and methanolic extracts from the green marine algae Caulerpa mexicana.

Abstract: objective: to determine whether the body mass index, airway obstruction, dyspnea, and exercise capacity (bode) index correlates with health-related quality of life in patients with copd. methods: we evaluated 42 patients with copd, quantifying the following: lung function parameters; anthropometric variables; exercise capacity, with the six-minute walk test; dyspnea, with the modified medical research council (mrc) scale; the bode index; and quality of life, with the modified saint george's respiratory questionnaire (msgrq). patients were divided into two groups by disease severity: fev1 > 50% and fev1 < 50%. results: the mean bode index was 2.58 ± 1.17 and 4.15 ± 1.81, respectively, for the fev1 > 50% and fev1 < 50% groups. there was a significant difference between the groups in terms of fev1 and the fev1/fvc ratio. there were moderate to significant correlations between the bode index scores and all of the msgrq domains in the group of patients with fev1 <50%. conclusions: the bode index score correlated with the scores of all of the msgrq domains in copd patients with fev1 < 50%. therefore, copd patients with fev1 < 50% die sooner and have a poorer quality of life.

Abstract: this study aimed to evaluate the speed of manure decomposition at different depths. donkey, cow, goat, and sheep manure was used after stove drying at ± 65 °c. 20 g of each manure was wrapped in nylon bags and applied superficially or buried at 10.0 cm depth. monthly, a nylon bag/plot was collected. the material was cleaned to evaluate decomposition, oven-dried and weighed to determine the loss percentage in relation to the initial weight. decomposition was slow in the first thirty days when ± 95 % of the manures remained in the nylon bags. the manure decomposition rate was strongly influenced by rain in the experimental period. it was observed that donkey manure was more resistant to decomposition and the decomposition speed was higher in the manures applied 10.0 cm deep.

Jornal de Pediatria , 2006, DOI: 10.2223/JPED.1573
Abstract: objectives: to review the literature on diseases linked with infection by human t-cell lymphotropic virus type i (htlv-i) in childhood and adolescence, with focus on clinical aspects, diagnosis, pathogenesis, progression and treatment. sources: medical literature published during the last 20 years identified using pubmed and medline and from specialized medical books, with emphasis on infective dermatitis associated with htlv-i (idh), on the juvenile form of htlv-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (ham/tsp), on adult t-cell leukemia/lymphoma (atl) and on htlv-i-associated uveitis. keywords used to search databases were: htlv-i-associated infective dermatitis, htlv-i-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis, adult t-cell leukemia/lymphoma, htlv-i-associated uveitis. summary of the findings: idh is a chronic, relapsing and infected dermatitis of childhood which always involves the scalp and which may progress to ham/tsp and atl. ham/tsp is a chronic and incapacitating myelopathy of adults. there are 17 well-documented cases of ham/tsp in children and adolescents in the literature, 12 of whom are patients with idh. in contrast with the adult form of the disease, the juvenile form is rapid and progressive. atl is a type of t-cell leukemia/lymphoma that affects adults and is generally fatal. eleven of the 24 published reports of atl in children and adolescents were diagnosed in brazil. conclusions: these diseases are likely to be more common in childhood and adolescence than the literature would suggest. it is advisable that serological testing be performed for htlv-i in children and adolescents suffering from chronic and relapsing eczema, with signs and symptoms of myelopathy or with a diagnosis of t-cell leukemia/lymphoma. it is important that pediatricians know how to recognize the pediatric manifestations of this infection in order to correctly diagnose them and offer their patients appropriate guidance and treatment.
Imaginario grupal y formaciones grupales en torno al saber

Educa??o : Revista do Centro de Educa??o UFSM , 2009,

The intention has this text to argue where measured the representation of the monsters and the monstrosities occurs as discursive construction in the film the Third Edge of the River (1994), Nelson Pereira Dos Santos, who congregates, in one alone body, six of First the Estórias, Guimar es Rosa, Sequência, Fatality, the girl of there, the edges of the joy and the Dagobé Brothers.
