Janczura, Rosane
Textos & Contextos (Porto Alegre) , 2005,
Pricing electricity derivatives within a Markov regime-switching model
Joanna Janczura
Quantitative Finance , 2012,
Abstract: In this paper analytic formulas for electricity derivatives are calculated. To this end, we assume that electricity spot prices follow a 3-regime Markov regime-switching model with independent spikes and drops and periodic transition matrix. Since the classical derivatives pricing methodology cannot be used in case of non-storable commodities, we employ the concept of the risk premium. The obtained theoretical results are then used for the European Energy Exchange (EEX) market data. The 3-regime model is calibrated to the spot electricity prices. Next, the risk premium is derived and used to calculate prices of European options written on spot, as well as, forward prices.
Janczura, Gerson Américo;
Paidéia (Ribeir?o Preto) , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-863X2005000300011
Abstract: this study presents semantic association norms for natural categories. participants were instructed to produce the first response to sentence cues using a free association procedure. the free associations produced in two different contexts were contrasted to categories presented with no context. the following parameters were calculated: category set size, word associates, errors, omissions and idiosyncratic responses. a measurent index that indicates which category members are more likely remembered regardless of category condition was proposed. results indicated a reduction effect on the semantic field. it was also demonstrated that some category members are more likely produced regardless of whether the category was experienced either with or without context. the category semantic field is reduced about fifty per cent when categories are presented within a sentence context.
Black swans or dragon kings? A simple test for deviations from the power law
Joanna Janczura,Rafal Weron
Quantitative Finance , 2011, DOI: 10.1140/epjst/e2012-01563-9
Abstract: We develop a simple test for deviations from power law tails, which is based on the asymptotic properties of the empirical distribution function. We use this test to answer the question whether great natural disasters, financial crashes or electricity price spikes should be classified as dragon kings or 'only' as black swans.
A política nacional de habita o e a oferta de moradias =The national housing policy and the offert of residences
Noal, Ednilson Bolson,Janczura, Rosane
Textos & Contextos (Porto Alegre) , 2011,
Huang, Tin Po;Janczura, Gerson Américo;
Psicologia: Teoria e Pesquisa , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-37722008000300011
Abstract: this study investigated the effects of stimulus presentation time and type of test (recognition and perceptual identification) on false memories in the drm paradigm. four presentation times were manipulated during the encoding phase: 20ms, 250ms, 1000ms and 3000ms. a hundred undergraduate students participated in each test. the following hypotheses were tested: longer presentation durations should produce higher levels of false memories, regardless of memory test, and significant higher level of false memories should be observed in the direct test. both variables produced significant effects on false memories. the results suggested that conscious processes played a major role in the production of memory illusions, with mild participation of unconscious processes. the phenomenon is discussed adopting a dual processing model that includes both encoding and retrieval processes.
Janczura, Gerson A.;Nelson, Douglas L.;
Psicologia: Reflex?o e Crítica , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-79722006000300018
Abstract: this paper extends the accessibility hypotheses proposed by janczura and nelson (1999) to linguistic production and presents a procedure for evaluating the participation of attributes in typicality judgments. the results show that different degrees of typicality are not related to the probability of an attribute being considered a part of an exemplar but can be predicted by the strength of association between an instance and its category. it also demonstrates that accuracy in a linguistic production task can be explained in terms of the accessibility of category members in memory. these results parallel typicality judgments. that is, more accessible members in memory are considered better category exemplars. it suggests that memory for category information may underlie typicality judgments. the more a subject knows a category exemplar or its features, the better it is perceived as representing the category. this paper proposes that, for known categories, typicality should be re-interpreted as a measure of category accessibility rather than category representativeness.
The hypothesis of conceptual accessibility for typicality and linguistic production / A hipótese da acessibilidade conceitual para a tipicidade e a produ o lingüística

Anomalous diffusion models: different types of subordinator distribution
Joanna Janczura,Agnieszka Wy?omańska
Statistics , 2011,
Abstract: Subordinated processes play an important role in modeling anomalous diffusion-type behavior. In such models the observed constant time periods are described by the subordinator distribution. Therefore, on the basis of the observed time series, it is possible to conclude on the main properties of the subordinator. In this paper we analyze the anomalous diffusion models with three types of subordinator distribution: \alpha-stable, tempered stable and gamma. We present similarities and differences between the analyzed processes and point at their main properties (like the behavior of moments or the mean squared displacement).
Raciocínio condicional: a conclus?o depende do conhecimento armazenado na memória
Castilho, Goiara Mendon?a de;Janczura, Gerson Américo;
Estudos de Psicologia (Natal) , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-294X2012000100007
Abstract: alternative examples stored in memory are fundamental for the correct interpretation of the conditional proposition "if p, then q". this paper proposes that associative strength and set size of semantic categories have a critical role in activation of alternative models. also, the more the number of alternative models generated as a function of inference type, the greater the difficulty of the task due to information overload in working memory. experiment 1 confirmed significant effects of associative strength, category set size, type of inference and interaction effects. experiment 2 showed that the effects of associative strength are context-dependent determined by the reduction of semantic field. these findings are consistent with the hypothesis that knowledge stored in memory plays an important role in conditional reasoning.
