Persistence and the Random Bond Ising Model in Two Dimensions

Abstract: We study the zero-temperature persistence phenomenon in the random bond $\pm J$ Ising model on a square lattice via extensive numerical simulations. We find strong evidence for ` blocking\rq regardless of the amount disorder present in the system. The fraction of spins which {\it never} flips displays interesting non-monotonic, double-humped behaviour as the concentration of ferromagnetic bonds $p$ is varied from zero to one. The peak is identified with the onset of the zero-temperature spin glass transition in the model. The residual persistence is found to decay algebraically and the persistence exponent $\theta (p)\approx 0.9$ over the range $0.1\le p\le 0.9$. Our results are completely consistent with the result of Gandolfi, Newman and Stein for infinite systems that this model has ` mixed\rq behaviour, namely positive fractions of spins that flip finitely and infinitely often, respectively. Scaling and Persistence in the Two-Dimensional Ising Model

Abstract: The spatial distribution of persistent spins at zero-temperature in the pure two-dimensional Ising model is investigated numerically. A persistence correlation length, $\xi (t)\sim t^Z$ is identified such that for length scales $r<<\xi (t)$ the persistent spins form a fractal with dimension $d_f$; for length scales $r>>\xi (t)$ the distribution of persistent spins is homogeneous. The zero-temperature persistence exponent, $\theta$, is found to satisfy the scaling relation $\theta = Z(2-d_f)$ with $\theta =0.209\pm 0.002, Z=1/2$ and $d_f\sim 1.58$.

Abstract: Feronia limonia Linn. (Rutaceae) have gained traditional therapeutic importance owing to their high essential oil and coumarins content. Marmesin, a furanocoumarin was identified by TLC and isolated by column chromatography and further purified by Preparative TLC. Presently, there is no appropriate TLC based method available for standardization of F. limonia. A simple, sensitive and accurate high performance thin layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method has been developed for the estimation of marmesin in the methanolic extract of stem bark of Feronia limonia. HPTLC was performed on precoated silica gel 60F254 aluminium plates (20 cm × 20 cm) with Chloroform: Methanol (9.5:0.5), as mobile phase. Quantitative evaluation of the plate was performed in the absorption-reflection mode at 338 nm. The calibration curve was linear in the concentration range of 20 – 100 ng spot–1. The method was validated for precision, repeatability and accuracy. The technique has been applied, for the first time, for the estimation of marmesin. The proposed method was found to be robust, precise, and accurate, it therefore holds potential for detection, monitoring and quantification of marmesin in Feronia limonia and its related formulation.

Abstract: The fingerprint recognition problem can be grouped into two sub-domains: one is fingerprint verification and the other is fingerprint identification. In addition, different from the manual approach for fingerprint recognition by experts, the fingerprint recognition here is referred as Fingerprint Recognition System, which is program-based. Fingerprint verification is to verify the authenticity of one person by his fingerprint. The user provides his fingerprint together with his identity information like his ID number. The fingerprint verification system retrieves the fingerprint template according to the ID number and matches the template with the real-time acquired fingerprint from the user. Usually it is the underlying design principle of Fingerprint Authentication System.
q\bar q$ bound states in the Bethe-Salpeter formalism

Abstract: We solve the Bethe-Salpeter equation in order to calculate the spectrum of pseudoscalar, vector and scalar meson bound states for light as well as heavy quarks, extending our previous calculation of pseudoscalar mesons. The fermion propagators appearing in the equation are obtained by solving the Schwinger-Dyson equation consistently with the Bethe-Salpeter equation, a procedure necessary for demonstrating the Goldstone nature of the pion in the chiral limit. We probe in our calculations a model for the gluon propagator which leads to the expected three dimensional potential in configuration space, while maintaining its known ultraviolet behavior. Our procedure provides a unified description of both the light and heavy mesons and obeys known relations derived on the basis of current algebra for light quarks and nonrelativistic analysis for heavy quarks. The results are in good agreement with experiment for the mass spectrum and for the pseudoscalar mesons' decay constants. We also calculate electromagnetic and isospin mass splittings for these mesons.
Criterion for dynamical chiral symmetry breaking

Abstract: The Bethe-Salpeter equation is related to a generalized quantum-mechanical Hamiltonian. Instability of the presumed vacuum, indicated by a tachyon, is related to a negative energy eigenstate of this Hamiltonian. The variational method shows that an arbitrarily weak long-range attraction leads to chiral symmetry breaking, except in the scale-invariant case when the instability occurs at a critical value of the coupling. In the case of short-range attraction, an upper bound for the critical coupling is obtained.
Hybrid Chaotic Particle Swarm Optimization Based Gains For Deregulated Automatic Generation Control

Abstract: Generation control is an important objective of power system operation. In modern power system, the traditional automatic generation control (AGC) is modified by incorporating the effect of bilateral contracts. This paper investigates application of chaotic particle swarm optimization (CPSO) for optimized operation of restructured AGC system. To obtain optimum gains of controllers, application of adaptive inertia weight factor and constriction factors is proposed to improve performance of particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. It is also observed that chaos mapping using logistic map sequence increases convergence rate of traditional PSO algorithm. The hybrid method presented in this paper gives global optimum gains of controller with significant improvement in convergence rate over basic PSO algorithm. The effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithm have been tested on two area restructure system.
