Abstract: The pig industry in Colombia has grown 30% in the last decade achieving high levels of technology and efficiency; in spite of that, respiratory diseases remain a constraint. Since 1970, serological evidence and histological findings suggested the role of swine influenza virus (SIV) as part of the porcine respiratory disease complex; nevertheless, elusive and molecular typing isolates are missing. This study was aimed at isolating SIV from intensive pig farms and to achieve molecular characterization to determine strains circulating in the field. In order to accomplish this goal, 242 samples were taken from nasal swabs, 25 from bronchial washes and 8 from lung tissue. Samples were collected during a period of three years, between 2008 and 2010 and were originated from 78 farms of the three main pig production regions of the country. The samples were transported in BHI broth with 2% antibiotic and antimycotic solution and stored at –70?C until processed. The swabs were inoculated in 9 - 11 days old embryo chicken eggs and in MDCK (Madin Darby Canine Kidney) cell cultures with the addition of trypsin. The isolates were identified by the HA (hemoagglutination) test and by RT-PCR targeting the HA (hemagglutinin), NA (Neuraminidase) and M (Matrix) genes. Full length sequence of the HA and NA glycoproteins from four selected virus isolates was conducted (Macrogen?. USA). As a result, fifteen SIV isolates from nine farms distributed in the three regions were obtained. Twelve of the isolates are related to the swine origin H1N1 virus that caused the 2009 influenza pandemic. The remaining three viruses were related to classical swine influenza viruses.
SEROLOGIC DYNAMIC OF INFECTIO US BRONCHITIS VIRUS IN A BROILER FLOCK IN CUNDINAMARCA DINáMICA SEROLóGICA DEL VIRUS DE BRONQUITIS INFECCIOSA EN UNA GRANJA DE POLLO DE ENGORDE DEL DEPARTAMENTO DE CUNDINAMARCA

Abstract: The infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) causes a highly contagious disease, spread worldwide, leading to serious economic losses. Sometimes the disease is associated with other entities such as infectious bursal disease virus, Newcastle disease virus, Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Escherichia coli. The highly genetic variability of the virus has generated a large number of viral strains with different clinical presentations. The objective was to assess the dynamics of the virus antibodies in birds vaccinated and not vaccinated against IBV, hosted on a broiler farm where the agent was detected by RT-PCR in Fusagasuga, Colombia and vaccinated birds in semi-isolation conditions in Bogotá. To order this, 3 groups of birds (Ross 308) from 1 day of age (44 birds/group), which were vaccinated with a live attenuated virus strain Massachusetts H120, and the immune response was evaluated through the Elisa test. Since day 24 of age the birds showed a progressive decrease in antibody titers in all three groups, although in the vaccinated and unvaccinated birds kept at the farm were found higher levels of antibodies in the group of semi-isolation. Starting at day 28 in the birds housed in field, the antibodies titles rose slightly until the end of cycle. The slight increase in the level of antibodies may result from exposure to the virus vaccine generated a reversal of pathogenic viral persistence or a late exposure to field virus.

Abstract: the infectious bursal disease or gumboro disease is an immunosuppressive pathology of birds, which has great importance in the poultry industry due to large economic losses that it produces not only for its direct effect, but because of the susceptibility to secondary infections, interference with commercial vaccines, reducing the effective use of them. the disease is produced by the infectious bursal disease virus (ibdv), which is an rna genome birnavirus, with high capacity for mutation, so the agent is continually evolving. the pathology has three types of clinical presentation: a subclinical form, a mild or moderate clinical form and a severe clinical form. however, the type of manifestation is determined mainly by three factors: the age of birds at the time of infection, the type of strain or acting or genetic variability of it, and the immunity degree. in this article, we discuss each of these factors and their importance in the presentation of the disease. these elements are vital in order to establish effective prevention and control programs.
Correa, Jaime
Cuadernos de Música, Artes Visuales y Artes Escénicas , 2006,
Abstract: The road movie is one of the most important American film genres. Although it has a long and complex history, only until relatively recently has this genre started to arouse the interest of specialists. The objective of this paper is to sketch a definition of the road movie –elaborated through a review of the most salient literature on the subject published so far– which takes into account the genre’s correlations with American social, cultural and film history. My reflection complies with the latest advances in film genre theory which, rejecting monolithic definitions, tend toward a more dynamic conception of the notion of genre. Because of its complexity and its hybrid character, the road movie is particularly difficult to define and requires an approach to the concept of film genre that allows mixing textual analysis with cultural studies. That is why this paper will propose an archaeology of the genre, outlining a panorama of some of the historical and aesthetic traditions that were fundamental in its emergence. Likewise, I will study the relation between two works considered by critics to be the foundational texts of the road movie: Easy Rider (Dennis Hopper, 1969) and the novel On the Road (Jack Kerouac, 1957). My article seeks to demonstrate that the road movie is not only a way of making films and thinking of them, but also one of the most profitable ways of thinking of the United States and its civilization through cinema.

Abstract: This review pretended to describe issues related with the Postweaning Multisystemic Was -ting Syndrome (PMWS) especially the epidemiological ones. PMWSbelongs to the Porcine circovirus type 2 associated diseases (PCAVD). Its presentation could be associated with another non identified infectious agent or the interaction between multiple management practices and other infectious diseases. The disease epidemiological pattern hasn ¢ t been clearly understood; PCV2 infection appears to be enzootic while PMWSappears to be epizootic. Both vertical and horizontal transmissions have been reported for PCV2, but the PMWSdevelopment has been related not only with PCV2 infection but also with some other aetiologies. Clinical signs and macroscopic lesions aren ¢ t specific for PMWS. Diagnosis is based on the identification of microscopic lesions in lymphoid organs and the identification of the viral antigen within them. Preventive and control strategies have been focused on specific management practices that improve the environment where animals are kept perse -cuting the reduction of infections rates not only associated with PCV2.
Correa Cardona,Héctor Jairo;
Revista Facultad Nacional de Agronomía, Medellín , 2008,
Abstract: a correct estimation of effective degradability in rumen of nutritional fractions of feedstuff is basic to develop efficient feed programs to ruminants. however, the classic proposal to estimate the effective degradability in rumen of potentially degradable fraction (edb=bkd/(kd+kp)), is not correct since it is based on the presumption that the constants of the kinetics of the ruminal degradability (kd) and passage (kp) represent the speed of the ruminal fermentation and passage, respectively, when these really represent the constant relationship between the acceleration and speed of degradation and of passage. in this paper is then proposed a new mathematical procedure coherent with the kinematics properties of the ruminal degradation and passage of the potentially degradable fraction (b) that requires the use of numeric methods to clear the time "t" of the expression 1 = e-kd*t + e-kp*t, that when replacing it in the expression b*e-kd*t, it allows to calculate edb. the estimate of edb for this method allows to obtain reliable and coherent data with the mathematical bases of the kinetics of the ruminal degradation and the passage of the nutritional fractions.
RELATION BETWEEN NUTRITION AND HEALTH IN DAIRY HERDS RELACIóN ENTRE NUTRICIóN Y SALUD EN HATOS LECHEROS

Abstract: Incidence of health and production problems related to feeding, nutrition and/or metabolism have being growing in dairy herds. Early diagnosis allows their reduction and consequently reduces economic losses. Monitoring nutritional status periodically allows to identify possible causes of nutritional unbalances and/or mistakes in feeding practices and establish corrective measurements.
ESTIMACIóN DE LA DEGRADABILIDAD EFECTIVA EN EL RUMEN MEDIANTE MéTODOS NUMéRICOS ESTIMATION OF EFFECTIVE DEGRADABILITY IN RUMEN TROUGH NUMERICAL METHODS
A correct estimation of effective degradability in rumen of nutritional fractions of feedstuff is basic to develop efficient feed programs to ruminants.
The discourse of civism in Pereira, or The “sacredness” of public matters during the 20th century
John Jaime Correa Ramírez
HISTOReLo : Revista de Historia Regional y Local , 2009,
Abstract: The constant reference to civism is one of the most distinct characteristics of the urban history of Pereira. Similar to many Colombian cities, the ideology of civism assumes that there is a need to establish a kind of symbiosis between the city, its public spaces, and its citizens, in material as well as spiritual matters. In the case of Pereira, the author seeks to identify the most relevant aspects of the civic discourse which developed entities like the Improvement Society and the Rotary Club, through different written means, putting special emphasis on the moral values which the civic citizens (or ciudadanos de bien) must have exhibited in the process of transformation and modernization experienced throughout the 20th century.
