On the image of the Galois representation associated to a non-CM Hida family
Jaclyn Lang
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: Fix a prime $p > 2$. Let $\rho : \text{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}/\mathbb{Q}) \to \text{GL}_2(\mathbb{I})$ be the Galois representation coming from a non-CM irreducible component $\mathbb{I}$ of Hida's $p$-ordinary Hecke algebra. Assume the residual representation $\bar{\rho}$ is absolutely irreducible. Under a minor technical condition we identify a subring $\mathbb{I}_0$ of $\mathbb{I}$ containing $\mathbb{Z}_p[[T]]$ such that the image of $\rho$ is large with respect to $\mathbb{I}_0$. That is, $\text{Im} \rho$ contains $\text{ker}(\text{SL}_2(\mathbb{I}_0) \to \text{SL}_2(\mathbb{I}_0/\mathfrak{a}))$ for some non-zero $\mathbb{I}_0$-ideal $\mathfrak{a}$. This paper builds on recent work of Hida who showed that the image of such a Galois representation is large with respect to $\mathbb{Z}_p[[T]]$. Our result is an $\mathbb{I}$-adic analogue of the description of the image of the Galois representation attached to a non-CM classical modular form obtained by Ribet and Momose in the 1980s.
Abundance and home ranges of feral cats in an urban conservancy where there is supplemental feeding: a case study from South Africa
Jaclyn Tennent,Colleen T. Downs
African Zoology , 2011,
Abstract: There is much debate surrounding the impact of feral cats (Felis catus) on wildlife. Conservancies are usually areas where indigenous flora and fauna are protected and aliens excluded or managed. The University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Howard College campus (HCC) is an urban conservancy containing feral cats that are presently not managed, and little is known about their ecology and behaviour. Consequently a feral cat population census was conducted, and their home range investigated. Estimates of the overall campus feral cat population numbers ranged between 23.4–40.0 cats/km2 with a minimum of 55 identified as resident. They were not randomly distributed in the study area, with spacing patterns being related to resource availability. Home range area and core distribution of eight radio-collared cats were determined over 13 months. Total home range areas were relatively small, with considerable overlap between them. Home ranges were clustered in areas with permanent feeding stations and these were also within the cats’ core ranges. Supp

Abstract: this essay emphacises eclea bosi’s main contribution to social psychology, the relation between theory, method and research techniques on the one hand and, on the other, social, political and cultural militance, starting from the definition of psychology as the phenomenology of expressive acts and from the relation of friendship between the research and the other as a person.

Service Mediator Model for Value Co-Creation Based on Service Dominant Logic  [PDF]

Journal of Service Science and Management (JSSM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jssm.2013.61002

A new mediator model for Information service firms (ISFs) is proposed based on Service dominant logic. In this model, mediators create a shared contextual place and it plays an important role in connecting and managing supply and demand to provide superior services. The mechanism of value co-creation based on service dominant logic in business activities through a suitable service field organized by mediator firms for interactions by all participants. This mechanism is demonstrated through case studies of the framework of Hitachi TWX-21 and Cookpad Inc., which are Japanese information service businesses. We found that a good service field was effective in helping all business’s parties receive better value and gain satisfaction.

Psychological quality of life and employability skills among newly registered first-year students: Opportunities for further university development  [PDF]
Michèle Baumann, Senad Karavdic, Nearkasen Chau
Health (Health) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/health.2013.53A082

In accord with new European university reforms initiated by the Bologna Process, our objective was to evaluate influences on the relationship between psychological quality of life (QoL) and the acquisition of academic employability skills (AES) among first-year students at the University in Luxembourg. At the beginning (2 months in) and the end (9 months) of the academic year, 973 newly registered students participated in this study involving two cross-university surveys. Students who redoubled or who had studied at other universities were excluded. Data were collected with an online questionnaire comprising the psychological Whoqol-bref subscale, AES scale, and questions about other related factors. The AES score decreased from 74.2 to 65.6. At both time points, the psychological Whoqol-bref was positively correlated with environmental and social relations QoL and perceived general health. Multiple regression models including interaction terms showed that a higher psychological QoL was associated with better general health (difference satisfied-dissatisfied 9.44), AES (slope 0.099), social relationships QoL (0.321), and environmental QoL (0.298). No interaction with time effects was significant, which indicates that the effects remain stable with time. If the university could maintain the QoL indicators at appropriate levels or manage decreases as they occur, it would have implications for health promotion and the creation of new student support systems. The SQA- LES project provides valuable information for universities aiming to develop a European Higher Educational Area.

Combining Methods of Lyapunov for Exponential Stability of Linear Dynamic Systems on Time Scales  [PDF]
Nguyen Ngoc Huy, Dang Dinh Chau
Applied Mathematics (AM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/am.2014.521323
Abstract: Consider the linear dynamic equation on time scales\"\" (1) where\"\" ,\"\" ,\"\" is a rd-continuous function, T is a time scales. In this paper, we shall investigate some results for the exponential stability of the dynamic Equation (1) by combinating the first approximate method and the second method of Lyapunov.
Seroprevalence of Mycoplasma bovis Infection in Dairy Cows in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam  [PDF]
Dung Van Nguyen, Chau Kim Thi Truong
Open Journal of Veterinary Medicine (OJVM) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojvm.2015.55016
Abstract: A cross-sectional study was carried out to investigate the seroprevalence of M. bovis. A total of 606 serum samples were randomly collected from dairy cows in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Commercial ELISA kit was used for detection of antibody to M. bovis. The results indicated that overall seroprevalence was 80.2% (486/606). There were no significant differences between regions or age categories (P > 0.05). Degree of infection to M. bovis commonly distributed at positive degree 1 (68.5%) and 2 (24.1%). Seroprevalence at highest positive degree 4 were found in District 9, District 12 and Thu Duc (6.7%, 6.3% and 1.6%, respectively). This study is the first report of seroprevalence of M. bovis in Vietnam. The results suggested that M. bovis was spreading among dairy cow populations although degree of positivity was low. It should be considered as a high risk pathogen to dairy cows in Vietnam.
