Abstract: the structure of the electrical double layer (edl) formed by solvated ions near a metal surface was studied by monte carlo simulations using an improved primitive model. the proposed model, which includes different radius and adsorption potentials for each solvating atmosphere, was applied to the interfacial system ni(111)-nicl2 (aqueous). model results show oscillations in the profiles of density and potential, and the separation and reversal of the charge in the edl. additionally, the model shows a prevalence effect of ions size over the asymmetric charge effect, producing a positive potential of zero charge (pzc) for the studied system, although the adsorption of the hydrating atmosphere of anions is more favorable than that of cations. these structural characteristics of the edl are very different from those found with simple primitive models, restricted or not.

Abstract: La estructura de la doble capa eléctrica (EDL) formada por iones solvatados cerca de una superficie metálica fue estudiada mediante simulaciones Monte Carlo usando un modelo primitivo mejorado. El modelo propuesto, que incluye radios y potenciales de adsorción diferentes para las atmósferas solvatantes, se aplicó al sistema interfacial Ni(111)NiCl2(Acuoso). Los resultados del modelo muestran oscilaciones en los perfiles de densidad y de potencial, así como la separación e inversión de la carga en la EDL. Adicionalmente, el modelo muestra un predominio del efecto de tama o de los iones sobre el efecto de la asimetría de la carga, produciendo un potencial de carga cero (PZC) positivo para el sistema estudiado, a pesar de que la adsorción de la atmósfera hidratante de los aniones es más favorable que la de los cationes. Estas características estructurales de la EDL son muy diferentes a las encontradas con modelos primitivos más simples, restringidos o no.

Abstract: a model for calculating the effectiveness factor and the concentration and temperature profiles for finite cylindrical either hollow or solid catalyst particles is presented. the model accounts for dispersion in both radial and axial directions and non-isothermal behavior. the resulting differential partial equations system is discretized by a centered finite difference method and a program written for the excel? electronic sheet solves the highly nonlinear algebraic system. the numerical technique can be extended for any kinetic expression; for illustration, some results for n-th order reactions rate expressions are shown.

Abstract: This paper is the result of a research titled “Cosmetic Surgeries: Between Lawsuit and Desire”, jointly developed by researchersfrom the Psychoanalysis, Subject and Society Group of the University of Antioquia; and the Clinic and Mental Health Group of the UCPR(Popular Catholic University of Risaralda) in 2007-20093. Asymptotic, non-linear solutions for ambipolar diffusion in one dimension

Abstract: We study the effect of the non-linear process of ambipolar diffusion (joint transport of magnetic flux and charged particles relative to neutral particles) on the long-term behavior of a non-uniform magnetic field in a one-dimensional geometry. Our main focus is the dissipation of magnetic energy inside neutron stars(particularly magnetars), but our results have a wider application, particularly to the interstellar medium and the loss of magnetic flux from collapsing molecular cloud cores. Our system is a weakly ionized plasma in which neutral and charged particles can be converted into each other through nuclear beta decays (or ionization-recombination processes). In the "weak-coupling" limit of infrequent inter-particle interactions, the evolution of the magnetic field is controlled by the beta decay rate and can be described by a non-linear partial integro-differential equation. In the opposite, "strong-coupling" regime, the evolution is controlled by the inter-particle collisions and can be modelled through a non-linear diffusion equation. We show numerically that, in both regimes, ambipolar diffusion tends to spread out the magnetic flux, but, contrary to the normal Ohmic diffusion, it produces sharp magnetic field gradients with associated current sheets around those regions where the magnetic field is weak.

Abstract: an experimental research for evaluating the effect of additives inclusion (sodium saccharine and ammonium chloride) and rectangular current waveforms in nickel electroplating on copper substrate using watts and sulfamate baths was made. bright coatings with high hardness were obtained using sodium saccharine; on the other hand, dull deposits and a hardness negligible effect, were found with ammonium chloride. surface morphology changes were detected by means of scanning electron microscopy (sem).
