Abstract: this paper offers a reinterpretation of ?adam smith?s problem? and reconsiders the relation between ethics and economics. it makes a critical revision of the attempts that seek to solve this problem, proposes an alternative framework constructed on the smithian concepts of sympathy and the impartial spectator, and shows that morality understood as an extension of sympathy relations, constitutes a precondition for the market existence. the analysis clarifies that morality is the base of the economic system and, at the same time, the economic system limits morality.

Abstract: The recent financial instability and its transmission to the productive economy, as well as revealing the bidirectional nature of the relationship between financial and real variables, pro-vides important questions about the ability of the European Central Bank to implement an effec-tive monetary policy in an area as heterogeneous as the Eurozone. This finding is especially re-levant when it comes to explaining the relationship between reference interest rates of monetary policy, the behavior of credit, the generation of price bubbles in the housing market and the evo-lution of real economic activity. Thereby, the main objective of this paper is to explore into the nature of the relationship between financial and real estate markets and the factors that deter-mine the possibilities of the ECB to contribute to the stability of the Eurozone through the imple-mentation of monetary policy. To do this we estimate a VAR model that allows to obtain eviden-ce about the relationship between housing prices, interest rate, credit, inflation and GDP for a sample of five countries that form part of the Eurozone (Spain, Ireland, Austria, France and Por-tugal).
Abstract: In the present paper we tried to put the denominated A. Smith’s problem as a base to reconsider the interrelation between Ethics and Economics. Firstly we make a critical revision on the attempts to integrate the Smith’s works on morals and economy, secondly we propose an alternative solution constructed on the Smithian concepts of sympathy and impartial spectator. In our approach, moral is built as an extension of sympathy relations and constitutes a precondition for the market existence. The analysis carried out allows to clarify the way morals constitutes a base of the economic system and, at the same time, how economy conditions morals.
Cardiovascular Risk in Systemic Autoimmune Diseases: Epigenetic Mechanisms of Immune Regulatory Functions
Chary López-Pedrera,Carlos Pérez-Sánchez,Manuel Ramos-Casals,Monica Santos-Gonzalez,Antonio Rodriguez-Ariza,Ma José Cuadrado
Clinical and Developmental Immunology , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/974648
Abstract: Autoimmune diseases (AIDs) have been associated with accelerated atherosclerosis (AT) leading to increased cardio- and cerebrovascular disease risk. Traditional risk factors, as well as systemic inflammation mediators, including cytokines, chemokines, proteases, autoantibodies, adhesion receptors, and others, have been implicated in the development of these vascular pathologies. Yet, the characteristics of vasculopathies may significantly differ depending on the underlying disease. In recent years, many new genes and signalling pathways involved in autoimmunity with often overlapping patterns between different disease entities have been further detected. Epigenetics, the control of gene packaging and expression independent of alterations in the DNA sequence, is providing new directions linking genetics and environmental factors. Epigenetic regulatory mechanisms comprise DNA methylation, histone modifications, and microRNA activity, all of which act upon gene and protein expression levels. Recent findings have contributed to our understanding of how epigenetic modifications could influence AID development, not only showing differences between AID patients and healthy controls, but also showing how one disease differs from another and even how the expression of key proteins involved in the development of each disease is regulated.
Geometric Study of the Weak Equilibrium in a Weighted Case for a Two-Dimensional Competition Game  [PDF]
López M. Dolores, Rodrigo Javier, Sánchez José Manuel
American Journal of Operations Research (AJOR) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ajor.2013.33030

In this work, an improvement of the results presented by [1] Abellanas et al. (Weak Equilibrium in a Spatial Model. International Journal of Game Theory, 40(3), 449-459) is discussed. Concretely, this paper investigates an abstract game of competition between two players that want to earn the maximum number of points from a finite set of points in the plane. It is assumed that the distribution of these points is not uniform, so an appropriate weight to each position is assigned. A definition of equilibrium which is weaker than the classical one is included in order to avoid the uniqueness of the equilibrium position typical of the Nash equilibrium in these kinds of games. The existence of this approximated equilibrium in the game is analyzed by means of computational geometry techniques.

Sánchez Ron,José Manuel;
Revista de la Asociación Espa?ola de Neuropsiquiatría , 2003, DOI: 10.4321/S0211-57352003000100005
Abstract: taking as starting point what john von neumann wrote in his book, computer and the brain, and what sigmun freud thought and wrote in his project for a scientific psychology, the question of whether the human brain can be understood (or reduced) on the basis of physics and mathematics as they are understood presently, in considered. to do that special attention is paid to question such as: "conduct versus activity". limits in mathematics (g?del and turing), nonalgorithmical explanations, new proposals lije that of roger penrose, and no lineal systems.
