Increasing of Plasma Cholecystokinin Level and Jejunum Histological Changes After Treatment with Soybean Extracts Protein
HAYATI Journal of Biosciences , 2012,
Abstract: It is well known that soybean has beneficial health effects. There are lot of active compounds in soybean, like protein and anti nutrition factors (ANF). Trypsin inhibitor and lectin, two kinds of ANF have an adverse effect on the morphology and function of digestive tract in animals. β-conglycinin in soybean protein, has been proven has reducing body weight effect through increasing cholecystokinin (CCK) level. The aim of this study was to measure plasma CCK level and the histological changes of jejunum in Wistar rats after treatment with protein extract of Willis raw soybean (PEWS), protein extract of Detam 1 raw soybean (PEDS) and protein extract of Detam 1 tempeh (PEDT) for 14 days. This study was also to ascertain whether β-conglycinin and ANF contribute to reducing body weight by giving PEWS, PEDS, and PEDT to 4 groups of 6 rats for 14 days. We observed food intake, body weight, CCK level, and histological profile of jejunum. As a conclusion, PEWS, PEDS, and PEDT treatment to Wistar Rats for 14 days caused increasing CCK plasma level and jejunum villi atrophy. The reducing body weight is caused not only by β-conglycinin but probably by ANF as well.

Comparison of central corneal thickness measurements with the Galilei dual Scheimpflug analyzer and ultrasound pachymetry
Ladi Jeevan,Shah Nitant
Indian Journal of Ophthalmology , 2010,
Abstract: Purpose: To compare corneal pachymetry assessment by the Galilei dual Scheimpflug analyzer with that done by ultrasound (US) pachymetry. Materials and Methods: Forty six patients (92 eyes) were subjected to corneal pachymetry assessment by Galilei dual Scheimpflug analyzer and US. All the readings were taken by a single operator. Intraoperator repeatability for the Galilei was assessed by taking 10 readings in one eye each of 10 patients. To study the interoperator reproducibility for the Galilei, two observers took a single reading in both the eyes of 25 patients. Results: The mean central corneal thickness (CCT) measured by US was 541.83 ± 30.56 μm standard deviation (SD) and that measured by Galilei was 541.27 ± 30.07 μm (SD). There was no statistically significant difference between both the methods (P < 0.001). The coefficient of repeatability was 0.43% while the coefficient of reproducibility was 0.377% for the Galilei. Conclusion: Objective, noncontact measurement of the CCT with the Galilei dual Scheimpflug analyzer was convenient, had excellent intraoperator repeatability and interoperator reproducibility, and findings were similar to those obtained with standard US pachymetry.

Succinate Dehydrogenase Subunit B (SDHB) Is Expressed in Neurofibromatosis 1-Associated Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (Gists): Implications for the SDHB Expression Based Classification of Gists

Journal of Cancer , 2011,
Abstract: Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) is the most common mesenchymal tumor of the digestive tract. GISTs develop with relatively high incidence in patients with Neurofibromatosis-1 syndrome (NF1). Mutational activation of KIT or PDGFRA is believed to be a driving force in the pathogenesis of familial and sporadic GISTs. Unlike those tumors, NF1-associated GISTs do not have KIT or PGDFRA mutations. Similarly, no mutational activation of KIT or PDGFRA has been identified in pediatric GISTs and in GISTs associated with Carney Triad and Carney-Stratakis Syndrome. KIT and PDGFRA-wild type tumors are expected to have lesser response to imatinib treatment. Recently, Carney Triad and Carney-Stratakis Syndrome -associated GISTs and pediatric GISTs have been shown to have a loss of expression of succinate dehydrogenase subunit B (SDHB), a Krebs cycle/electron transport chain interface protein. It was proposed that GISTs can be divided into SDHB- positive (type 1), and SDHB-negative (type 2) tumors because of similarities in clinical features and response to imatinib treatment. In this study, SDHB expression was examined immunohistochemically in 22 well-characterized NF1-associated GISTs. All analyzed tumors expressed SDHB. Based on SDHB-expression status, NF1-associated GISTs belong to type 1 category; however, similarly to SDHB type 2 tumors, they do not respond well to imatinib treatment. Therefore, a simple categorization of GISTs into SDHB-positive and-negative seems to be incomplete. A classification based on both SDHB expression status and KIT and PDGFRA mutation status characterize GISTs more accurately and allow subdivision of SDHB-positive tumors into different clinico-genetic categories.
Standard Expression of Metal Ions in Aquatic Environmental Chemistry

Journal of Postgraduate Medicine , 1990,
Abstract: A case of facial palsy with lagophthalmos with exposure keratitis was corrected surgically by a method of temporalis transfer. When the slings were tightened leaving 1 cm gap in the palpebral aperture, lagophthalmos persisted. A secondary tightening procedure causing overlap of the upper lid over the lower yielded good results.
Pediatric ocular trauma--a clinical presentation.
Dasgupta S,Mukherjee R,Ladi D,Gandhi V
Journal of Postgraduate Medicine , 1990,
Abstract: A year long study of ocular injuries in children below the age of 15 years was conducted in the Ophthalmology Department of a general hospital. Fortyfour cases were studied. Of these 45.45% were in the age group of 6-10 years. The male to female ratio was 5.28 : 1. Pointed objects viz. sticks, wires etc. were found to be the common causative agents; the recent trend being of bow and arrow injuries. Ocular perforation was observed in 28 cases. On follow up of all the cases with ocular trauma, only 12 patients were found to have a visual acuity better than 6/18; perception of light was absent in 7 patients. A need for increased parental awareness and supervision of children is stressed upon.
