Efectos de las tensiones en manganitas de LaMn1-XCoXO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0,5)
Javier A. Olarte T.
Analysis of Rain Variability Using the Daily and Monthly Concentration Indexes in Southeastern Brazil  [PDF]

Atmospheric and Climate Sciences (ACS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/acs.2017.72013
Abstract: Daily and monthly rainfall was analyzed by the Concentration Index (CI) of [1] and the Annual Precipitation Concentration Index (PCI) of [2] in southeastern Brazil. About 120 rainfall stations were used in the period from 1976 to 2010. Data were obtained from the National Water Agency (ANA). These data were selected by observing their spatial and temporal distribution in the study area. In general, the Concentration Index and the Precipitation Concentration Index were consistent for the study of rainfall variability in the study area. High percentages of annual rainfall concentration in a few very rainy days can increase the risk of flooding and soil instability. In this work, a survey of the spatial and temporal patterns of daily and monthly rainfall concentration in southeast Brazil was conducted. The results showed a relatively homogeneous temporal distribution of daily rainfall in the study area. In addition, the Mann-Kendall test showed a clear trend towards a seasonal rainfall distribution.
Structure-guided Alterations of the gp41-directed HIV-1 Broadly Neutralizing Antibody 2F5 Reveal New Properties Regarding its Neutralizing Function
Javier Guenaga,Richard T. Wyatt
PLOS Pathogens , 2012, DOI: 10.1371/journal.ppat.1002806
Abstract: The broadly neutralizing HIV-1 antibody 2F5 recognizes an epitope in the gp41 membrane proximal external region (MPER). The MPER adopts a helical conformation as free peptide, as post-fusogenic forms of gp41, and when bound to the 4E10 monoclonal antibody (Mab). However, when bound to 2F5, the epitope is an extended-loop. The antibody-peptide structure reveals binding between the heavy and light chains with most the long, hydrophobic CDRH3 not contacting peptide. However, mutagenesis identifies this loop as critical for binding, neutralization and for putative hydrophobic membrane interactions. Here, we examined length requirements of the 2F5 CDRH3 and plasticity regarding binding and neutralization. We generated 2F5 variants possessing either longer or shorter CDRH3s and assessed function. The CDRH3 tolerated elongations and reductions up to four residues, displaying a range of binding affinities and retaining some neutralizing capacity. 2F5 antibody variants selective recognition of conformationally distinctive MPER probes suggests a new role for the CDRH3 loop in destabilizing the helical MPER. Binding and neutralization were enhanced by targeted tryptophan substitutions recapitulating fully the activities of the wild-type 2F5 antibody in a shorter CDRH3 variant. MPER alanine scanning revealed binding contacts of this variant downstream of the 2F5 core epitope, into the 4E10 epitope region. This variant displayed increased reactivity to cardiolipin-beta-2-glycoprotein. Tyrosine replacements maintained neutralization while eliminating cardiolipin-beta-2-glycoprotein interaction. The data suggest a new mechanism of action, important for vaccine design, in which the 2F5 CDRH3 contacts and destabilizes the MPER helix downstream of its core epitope to allow induction of the extended-loop conformation.
Floral biology of Cneorum tricoccon L. (Cneoraceae): an unknown case of andromonoecy
Tébar, Francisco Javier,Llorens, Leonardo
Collectanea Botanica , 1997,
Abstract: The floral biology of a natural population or Cneorum tricoccon L. (Cneoraceae) from Majorca (Balearic Islands, Spain) has been proven to be andromonoecious, a condition not yet described for this species. The ratio perfect: staminate flowers varied along two consecutive reproductive cycles, being low in the dry year 1990 and high in the humid year 1991. The plants are self-compatible and cross-pollinated by a short number or pollinating insects (mainly Hymenoptera). Neochamaelea pulverulenta (Vent.) Erdtm. from the Canary Islands (Spain) has also been recognized as andromonoecious. This means that two of the three representatives of the family are andromonoecious and not hermaphroditic, as previously reported La condició d'andromonoècia ha estat descrita per a una població natural de Cneorum tricoccon L. (Cneoraceae) provinent de Mallorca.
Angular Precession of Elliptic Orbits. Mercury  [PDF]
Javier Bootello
International Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics (IJAA) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ijaa.2012.24032
Abstract: The relativistic precession of Mercury -43.1 seconds of arc per century, is the result of a secular addition of 5.02×10-7 rad. at the end of every orbit around the Sun. The question that arises in this paper, is to analyse the angular precession at each single point of the elliptic orbit and determine its magnitude and oscillation around the mean value, comparing key theoretical proposals. Underline also that, this astronomical determination has not been yet achieved, so it is considered that Messenger spacecraft, now orbiting the planet or the future mission BepiColombo, should provide an opportunity to perform it. That event will clarify some significant issues, now that we are close to reach the centenary of the formulation and first success of General Relativity.
