Abstract: the infectious theory to explain atherosclerosis has allowed researchers to advance quickly on the knowledge about pathogenia of cardiovascular disease. even more, the concept of coronary disease as an inflammatory disease has developed new pathways for investigating the ischaemic cardiac. recent investigations suggest that the use of inflammatory markers may help for early detecting patients who present high risk of cardiovascular strokes appearance. also, epidemiological essays have revealed that periodontitis is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease to develop. periodontitis is a source of bacterias or their wastes, and provoke a hyperinflammatory response on the hostage, liberating cytokines for long periods. due to chronicity of both cardiovascular and periodontal disease, they may have some similar ethilogycal ways.

Abstract: bad breath, oral malodour and halitosis they are terms used describe unpleasant odour out from the oral cavity, independently from the source where the odorous can be oral no oral. the majority of bad breath originates within the mouth. they have been attributed mainly attributed to volatile sulfur compounds (vsc) such as hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan and dimethyl sulfide. the primary cause are bacteria gram-negative bacteria that are similar to the causing periodontal diseases. these bacterias produce the vsc by metabolizing epithelial cells, leukocytes, etc., mainly located in saliva, dental plaque. tongue surface is composed of desquamated epithelial cells and bacterias, suggestig that it has the proteolytic and putrefactive capacity to produce vsc. the aim of this review article: (1) to analyze the evidence the importance of the bad breath in the current context, (2) to study the data your etiology and (3) to value the association between the periodontal diseases and the halitosis of oral origin.
Abstract: Firstly, in this paper a theoretical scheme on the mechanisms of the analogical thinking in science education is summarised. Secondly, the degree of understanding reached by a group of students about the analogies used in class on the molecular model is analyzed. Finally, the relationship between analogical thinking and the students’ mental models about the nature of the matter is studied. The collected data indicate a moderate but acceptable final level of understanding of the analogies used, as well the existence of a narrow relationship between the understanding analogies and the construction of a model for the matter.
Nú?ez Mora,C.; García Mediero,J.Ma;
Actas Urológicas Espa?olas , 2008, DOI: 10.4321/S0210-48062008000300008
Abstract: introduction: urinary fistulas remain an important conservative renal parenchyma surgery (crps) complication, especially in central or hiliar tumours and bigger than 4 cm. herein we present our initial experience preventing fistulae with bioglue? (criolife inc ga, usa) on laparoscopic crps in which urinary tract was opened. patients and methods: we performed 5 laparoscopic crps between september 2005 and february 2006 in which urinary tract was necessarily opened. previous uretheral catheter, transperitoneal approach, selective arterial control, tumorectomy or heminephrectomy, suturing urinary tract and renal parenchyma and bioglue? administration was performed. results: median follow up time was 8.2 months (6-12 months). median surgery time was 138 minutes (105-180 minutes) with a median ischemia time of 45 minutes (35-60). uretheral catheter was removed before second post-op day in all cases. average discharged day was 3.8 (3-5 days). one patient required intraoperative transfusion due to breaking rummel tourniquet and one arterio- calyceal fistula on tenth day pos-op that required selective embolization remained the worst complication. neither urinary fistulas nor urinomas were reported. conclusions: uretheral cathetesim, suturing urinary tract and parenchyma in an independent fashion and applying some kind of surgical adhesive such as bioglue? seems to reduce the urinary fistulae risk in laparoscopic crps.
La biopsia intraoperatoria en patología oncológica urológica

Actas Urológicas Espa?olas , 2007, DOI: 10.4321/S0210-48062007000900003
Abstract: the indications of frozen section diagnosis (fs) in surgery due to urologic neoplasia are quite specific, and this explains the fact that they amount to a mere 7.3% of the fss performed in general hospitals. this also makes the precise knowledge of their usefulness necessary, and thus we are submitting the present review. generally speaking, fs is not warranted to identify the nature of a tumoral mass, with the following exceptions: 1) renal masses of a doubtful parenchymal origin, or in the urinary tract: 2) in testicular neoplasias, when the possibility of a conservative treatment arises; 3) determination of the presence of a prostate adenocarcinoma in an organ donor with high serum psa; but even in these circumstances its need is widely controversial. intraoperative determination of surgical margins is particularly useful in: 1) partial nephrectomies (it may be limited to inspection after dyeing the margin with indian ink - bed freezing is very seldom needed); 2) urethral margins in women with total cystectomies and orthotopic substitution; 3) in partial penectomies (always studying the urethral margin and the cavernosal and spongiosal corpora margins). the study of the nodes is a widely debated issue, and except for those cases in which unexpectedly increased node size is found, systematic fs is indicated neither of the bladder nor of the prostate. the situation regarding penis carcinoma is different, as in the groups with intermediate and high risk of node metastasis, even though there is around 16% - 18% of false negatives fs is recommended, particularly of radioisotope-marked sentinel nodes.

Algaba Arrea,F.; Chivite de León,A.; Santaularia Segura,J.Ma; Oliver Samper,A.;
Actas Urológicas Espa?olas , 2004, DOI: 10.4321/S0210-48062004000100004
Abstract: introduction: the gleason score (gs) for prostatic cancer has a good prognosis correlation after radical prostatectomy, for this reason its correlation with the gs in the biopsy can be useful. patients and methods: two hundred fifteen patients with blind evaluation among three pathologists of their gs in biopsy and in the corresponding radical prostatectomy specimen are presented. results: the exact coincidence is present in 49.7% of cases, 38.6% of cases are under graded in the biopsy and 11.6% of them over graded in the biopsy. no cases of gs 2 in the biopsy are found. any case with gs 3 and 4 in the biopsy are reproduced in the radical prostatectomy specimen. the exact coincidence for biopsy gs 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 are 25%, 45%, 72.7%, 36.6% and 60% respectively (κ 0.32 ± 0.047, p<0.0001 in gs 5 to 8). the gleason pattern 4 is the less diagnosed in prostate biopsies (40% of cases with this pattern in the excision specimen it is missing in the biopsy). conclusions: the gs in the needle prostatic biopsy has a good correspondence with the gs in the radical prostatectomy specimen. for an increase of the reproducibility it is recommendable avoid the diagnosis of gs 2, 3 and 4 in biopsy and a scrupulous search for the patterns 4 and 5.
