The objective of the present paper is to investigate how people see the attitude of those who give away his/her child for adoption and what circumstances this action involves. In order to do that 10 adults were interviewed and their answers classified by similar themes. So, we made up a questionnaire containing these themes which were applied to 60 (30 males and 30 females) people of different ages and professions. The following variables were analyzed: the personal characteristics of the parents, their motivations, the positives aspects of this donation, the consequences of this act in the life of the one who made the donation and also in the child’s life himself, the justification for the donation of a child and the right of a future meeting between the parents and the child. Although many ambivalences and contradictions were found, we concluded by a wider view of this problem. Specifically we observed that women tend to be more severe in their perception about the donors and the possibility of future meeting. On the other hand, men significantly pointed out that the donation takes place due to the lack of concern with a child.

Abstract:

Shrinking lung refers to a rare complication of systemic lupus erythematosus and is characterized by unexplained dyspnea, a restrictive pattern in lung function tests, and elevation of the diaphragmatic hemicuples. It is postulated to have a predilection for female involvement and occurs mainly during late stages of the disease. Chest X-rays usually show small, diaphragmatic lungs. Occasional basal atelectasis may be present. Chest tomography usually shows reduced lung volumes with diaphragmatic elevation, occasional basal atelectasis, without severe pulmonary or pleuropulmonary disease. Shrinking lung can cause significant morbidity and occasional mortality. There is no definitive therapy, while corticosteroids may decrease symptoms and improve lung function in some patients. The objective of this study was to describe the main imaging findings in Shrinking Lung, an important pulmonary alteration in lupus patients. We highlight the characteristics observed on radiography and computed tomography, with an emphasis on computed tomography. It is important that every radiologist is prepared to recognize these findings and understand the possible clinical repercussions.

Abstract: zeolites are hydrated crystalline aluminosilicate minerals of natural occurrence, structured in rigid third dimension net that can be used as slow release plant-nutrient source. the main objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of plant growth substrate under zeolite application, enriched with n, p and k, on dry matter yield and on nutrient contents in consecutive crops of lettuce, tomato, rice, and andropogon grass. the experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, with 3 kg pots with an inert substrate, evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications. treatments consisted of four types of enrichment of concentrated natural zeolite: concentrated zeolite (z) only, zeolite + kno3 (znk), zeolite + k2hpo4 (zpk) and zeolite + h3po4 + apatite (zp), and a control grown in substrate fertilized with a zeolite-free nutrient solution. four levels of enriched zeolite were tested: 20, 40, 80, and 160 g/pot. four successive crops were grown on the same substrate in each pot: lettuce, tomato, rice, and andropogon grass. results indicated that n, p and k enriched zeolite was an adequate slow-release nutrient source for plants. the total dry matter production of above-ground biomass of four successive crops followed a descending order: zp > zpk > znk > z.
