Neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica en una unidad de cuidados intensivos

Abstract: a descriptive and retrospective study was carried out at the intensive care unit from "dr juan bruno zayas alfonso" teaching general hospital in santiago de cuba from january to december, 2009 in order to specify the information about mechanical ventilation associated with pneumonia. for this purpose, demographic variables of interest, isolated germens, days during the procedure application, and physical condition when being discharged from the hospital, as well as the affections that suggested using mechanical ventilation, were analyzed. male sex (73,4 %) and age between 56 and 57 years (73,3 %) were predominant in the case material. cerebrovascular disease (53,3 %) constituted the primary cause for which patients required mechanical ventilation. klebsiella (26,6 %) and escherichia coli (20,0 %) were the germens frequently isolated in the endotraqueal secretions. average period of time receiving mechanical ventilation included from the seventh to the tenth day, when the highest frequency of hospital pneumonia was observed. two third parts of the subjects in the series died, showing a high rate of mortality. just like in other case materials, further research is needed to clarify whether the patient dies due to pneumonia associated with ventilation or suffering from pneumonia associated with ventilation.

Abstract: present paper shows some advances obtained trough modeling and simulating laboratory at rosario university in relation with a study of the concurring panorama in any strategic sector. the model introduced is based on non-traditional logic and non-conventional computation system. after a brief presentation of a tool named structural analysis for strategic sectors developed by some researchers (restrepo and rivera), we transformed the tool from a planar into a complex behavioral system that helps to visualize better options for investment or innovation, and allow to take decisions in the frame of uncertainty and dynamic systems.

Abstract: in order to describe the temporally associated adverse events after the use of va-mengoc-bc? a descriptive and observational study was done. the universe was 3549 children of three months of age and 3832 children of five months of age from primary health care centers of la lisa municipality. there were 3.21% of children with adverse events in general, but the frequency was higher after the first dose without noticeable differences between sex. the 52% of those adverse events were systemic, 19% on the site of administration of the vaccine and 29% were no related to the vaccine. most of children were affected in the first 72 hours after the vaccination, and the clinical manifestations disappeared before 72 hours since its beginning. the more frequent manifestations were fever: (the main adverse event with 1.53 cases per 100 vaccinated children); hardness (0.31 cases per 100 vaccinated children), redness (0.30 cases per 100 vaccinated children) and pain (0.136 cases per 100 vaccinated children) on the site of vaccination, irritation (0.244 cases per 100 vaccinated children) and appetite lost (0.311 cases per 100 vaccinated children). the main unrelated adverse events were acute respiratory disease (0.637 cases per 100 vaccinated children), acute diarrhea disease (0.311 cases per 100 vaccinated children) and acute middle ear infection (0.176 cases per 100 vaccinated children). serious adverse events were scarce. there were not deaths, and all the hospitalized cases were discharged within ten days in complete recuperation without sequel, incapability or handicap.

Abstract: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y retrospectivo en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos del Hospital General Docente "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" de Santiago de Cuba, desde enero hasta diciembre de 2009, a fin de precisar lo concerniente a la ventilación mecánica asociada a neumonía, para lo cual se analizaron las variables demográficas de interés, así como las afecciones que condicionaron el uso de la ventilación mecánica, los gérmenes aislados, los días con el procedimiento y el estado al egreso. En la casuística predominaron el sexo masculino (73,4 %) y las edades de 56-75 a os (73,3 %). La enfermedad cerebrovascular (53,3 %) constituyó la principal causa por la cual los pacientes requirieron ventilación mecánica. Los gérmenes frecuentemente aislados en las secreciones endotraqueales fueron Klebsiella (26,6 %) y Escherichia coli (20,0 %). Del séptimo al décimo días con ventilación mecánica fue el tiempo promedio cuando se presentó con mayor frecuencia la neumonía hospitalaria. Dos terceras partes de los integrantes de la serie fallecieron, para una alta tasa de letalidad en el Servicio. Al igual que en otras casuísticas, quedó por aclarar si el paciente muere por neumonía asociada a la ventilación o con neumonía asociada a esta. Abstract: En la Educación Superior de nuestro medio viene jugando un papel secundario el componente humanista inserto en los programas académicos. Tal situación genera una gran preocupación para los diferentes centros universitarios, toda vez que es un hecho que se enmarca en una sociedad en crisis, que clama por una humanización de su situación, teniendo en tal criterio la esperanza de salida, que es de complejas proporciones. Tales condiciones nos invitan a adelantar una búsqueda que tienda a potenciar el sentido y valor efectivo de dicho componente dentro del marco académico y a legitimar la necesidad del mismo dentro de la construcción de una nueva sociedad más justa, participativa y equitativa, con una idea clara del sentido por lo humano en el hombre.

Abstract: Este trabajo muestra avances de investigación concernientes al estudio de las organizaciones en el laboratorio de modelación y simulación en la Universidad del Rosario en Bogotá, Colombia. El estudio está centrado en el mejoramiento computacional y epistemológico de la herramienta llamada panorama competitivo de un sector estratégico desde un estudio interdisciplinar y sistematizado a un algoritmo computacional. Con esta herramienta se logra avanzar en la generación de ventajas competitivas que contribuyan a la perdurabilidad de las empresas.
Nylon/Graphene Oxide Electrospun Composite Coating

Abstract: Graphite oxide is obtained by treating graphite with strong oxidizers. The bulk material disperses in basic solutions yielding graphene oxide. Starting from exfoliated graphite, different treatments were tested to obtain the best graphite oxide conditions, including calcination for two hours at 700°C and ultrasonic agitation in acidic, basic, or peroxide solutions. Bulk particles floating in the solution were filtered, rinsed, and dried. The graphene oxide obtained was characterized under SEM and FTIR techniques. On the other hand, nylon 6-6 has excellent mechanical resistance due to the mutual attraction of its long chains. To take advantage of the properties of both materials, they were combined as a hybrid material. Electrochemical cells were prepared using porous silica as supporting electrode of the electrospun nylon/graphene oxide films for electrochemical testing. Polarization curves were performed to determine the oxidation/reduction potentials under different acidic, alkaline, and peroxide solutions. The oxidation condition was obtained in KOH and the reduction in H2SO4 solutions. Potentiostatic oxidation and reduction curves were applied to further oxidize carbon species and then reduced them, forming the nylon 6-6/functionalized graphene oxide composite coating. Electrochemical impedance measurements were performed to evaluate the coating electrochemical resistance and compared to the silica or nylon samples. 1. Introduction Graphite oxide is a compound of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen in variable ratios, commonly obtained by treating graphite with strong oxidizers. Strictly speaking “oxide” is an incorrect but historically established name, since graphite is not a metal. The bulk material disperses in basic solutions yielding monomolecular sheets, known as graphene oxide by analogy to graphene, the single-layer form of graphite [1]. Graphene oxide (GO) sheets have recently attracted substantial interest as a possible intermediate for the manufacture of graphene. It typically preserves the layer structure of the parent graphite, but the layers are buckled and the interlayer spacing is about two times larger (~0.7?nm) than that of graphite. Graphene oxide layers are about ?nm thick [2–6]. The edges of each layer are terminated with carboxyl and carbonyl groups. The detailed structure is still not understood due to the strong disorder and irregular packing of the layers [1]. One of the methods used to separate the layers of graphite consists in an aggressive oxidative processes which functionalize the periphery and some places of the graphene
Quantum Interference without Wave-Particle Duality  [PDF]

Abstract: Interference of light and material particles is described with a unified model which does not need to assume the wave-particle duality. A moving particle is associated with a region of spatial correlated points named coherence cone. Its geometry depends on photon or particle momentum and on the parameters of the experimental setup. The final interference pattern is explained as a spatial distribution of particles caused by the coherence cone geometry. In the present context, the wave front superposition principle, wave-particle duality and wave-collapse lose their meaning. Fits of observed single electron and single molecule interference patterns together with the simulation of expected near-field molecule interference (Talbot carpet) demonstrate the model validity.
